What overpriced feature/activity do you always (or usually) end up doing anyway?

As we're finalizing our plans for our trip next week (our seventh), and trying to keep the cost reasonable, I realized there are two things we always do that really can't be cost justified, but it wouldn't be a Disney trip for us without them. The first is taking a limo to the airport (and then home again at the end of the trip). A cab would be much cheaper, even driving and using long term parking. But the kids were always thrilled riding in a limo when they were little, and even now that they are all almost adults, we still do it.

The second is shopping at Goodings. Very overpriced, and Winn Dixie or Publix is just as convenient and from what I've heard, much cheaper. And yet we keep going back there. Again, it just seems like it's part of the trip to us and if we went to another store it would seem like we missed something. Irrational, but much of a WDW trip is emotion over logic anyway.

These are non-Disney examples, but I'm sure people have plenty of examples that are Disney or non-Disney. An overpriced restaurant that you enjoy anyway? Maybe something "overpriced" in waiting time - like Dumbo? Any contributions?

How much is a limo from MCO to Disney? Eating out every meal is a treat for the family since we rarely eat out at home!

Not sure of the cost from MCO. We always rent a car once we're there. We wind up paying about $55 from our house to O'Hare; this time we're flying from Midway and paying $80.

We have a little tradition of going to Chef Mickeys. Even though we've only done this once lmao (since we've only been to Disney once as a family) this is one of the few things my brother and I remember from our trip in 1992 without watching the video we have and we asolutely LOVED it! We really don't need to do character meals since my brother and I are older now (especially since the character meals just recently went up in price), but we feel like we just have to do it again!

We eat lunch at the Castle every time we go.:princess: Last time, I tried to get the kids to try the LTT, but they would have none of it. It's not like it matters--all they eat is chicken fngers. I mean, the food is good :cloud9: and the atmosphere is very nice & calm, but could we please once eat somewhere else? :sad2:

Cathy--mom to two maniacs and a sweetheart :rockband:

I'm going to say sit down meals on site. For my family of 3 it seems to be no problem to spend $65-130 for a sit down meal. Now, off site or at home we'd never do it. We do only usually book 2-3 sit down's on site, but I could never go all trip w/o doing a few.

Have to say shopping at DTD - nothing is ever cheap there but we always make it everytrip and then buy more stuff.

The people I don't understand are the ones who have to do The Hoop Dee Doo Revue everytrip. This thing is $50 and IMHO is boring but people continue to go to those shoes. Well to each is own.

Hi there,
This last trip we stayed at the Beach Club and took Tiffany TownCar from the airport and back, and it was $110.00 and this included tip (we tip seperately each way incase you have a different driver each way like we did)

I like having a towncar waiting for you so that you don't have to wait for Mears, and you can fit 4 people in the car and the price is still the same, I think that if you have more you have to pay extra for a van, but im not sure since there are only 2 of us.

character breakfasts... I know they're expensive but I do them anyway, or it wouldn't feel like a Disney trip.

A limo can be a good idea from MCO to Disney if you have ore than just a couple people. Since the limo is per the car (keep in mind mor people might dictate a bigger limo), it can be cheaper than other options, and certainly nicer.

We do like to take limo's from home to the airport. It can cost a little more, but it gets your vacation going faster (and stretching out in a big limo is the best way to make an early morning flight!)

I was thinking of taking a limo home from Midway but the regular Limo company I have used before is closed .... would you have a recommendation for me ?!?! :flower1:

Well it's not a limo, but you can take the orange line there! lol How about a limo from orlando airport to your hotel?

PooohBear: We use a company called Olde World Limo out of Oak Park. We usually have them pick my mom up in Stickney, pick us up in Forest Park then on to Ohare for less than $50 plus tip. This next trip will be without my mom so I am not sure what it will cost just for us. I can get you the number if you'd like!!

Didn't think much about this one until this last trip but I have to say we spend a lot on alcohol. The alcohol at Disney is overpriced but we buy it anyway. Four beers the first night, $20. Whew!

LOL I can top that!
We were on the Silver Plan so whenever I bought any drinks at dinner I got a seperate bill for it, I got Ice Wine at Le Cellier on our first night, with tip it was over $16.00 (for a 3 oz pour)
This trend continued for the entire 11 days we were there...LOL
Had to try a different drink at each dinner!

Hah - that's us. we love the Hoop Dee Doo on the first night of everytrip. We still laugh our butts off at the corny jokes and dream of the bread and sweet butter. to each their own.

- lori

We always spend way to much on character meals!! I love them and so do my kids. My DD and DS are 4 so they don't do very well waiting in all the meet and greet lines in the parks so we always do several character meals so they get to meet all their favorite characters.
LLagow :moped:
We leave tommorrow and will be there Friday!!!! :cool1:

This is our seventh trip. We did Hoop-De-Doo three years in a row; not doing it this time, and we're already going through Hoop-De-Doo withdrawal.
