DH and I are staying at SSR for the first time in July. I have to admitt, I'm not familiar with that area at all. :confused3 I know DTD is across from SSR and just found out OKW shares boat service. But what other resorts are "fairly close" by?

Is there a map around that shows the layout of the resorts?

Thanks....I'm really beginning to get excited about this trip :mickeyjum

Port Orleans-Riverside and Port Orleans-French Quarter are probably the next closest on-site resorts after OKW. After that, I think Boardwalk would probably be the closest resort, along with Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge, but those resorts are all a few miles away.

POR & POFQ also share boat service with SSR and DTD. Boat ride is about 15 minutes.

You don't realize how close the resorts are. I was surprised on my trip last month when we were driving on the road where SSR and OKW are, you could see POFQ through the trees.

I thought Pop was close. We had a car and I drove over to their food court (stayed open later on NYE than SSR's).

Also, keep in mind, that Typhoon Lagoon is across the street from DTD's Westside, and you can walk to DTD bus and go to any Disney Resort from there.

From the Congress Park fireworks viewing area, you can see Illuminations Hi Fireworks or it's nice to ride the ferry from DTD to SSR at that time and watch them.

We found the location to be great and are looking forward to our stay next week!

Thanks all for the information. I think half of the fun will be "exploring our new neighborhood".

I'm still hunting down a map. I think in one of my Birmbaum Guides there's a map of WDW showing resorts and all. I have to go and dig it up now. :p

Just as a side note. The Reedy Creek Fire Department was a hit on our last trip. We were coming back from EPCOT in the early afternoon. The bus stopped at the Paddocks by the quiet pool. At the same time, a fire engine started up the siren and pulled out to respond to a call. The kids on the bus were glued to the windows for a few seconds. I heard one small voice ask if we could wait for the next one to come out. It made me feel like a kid again, if only till the CP bus stop.
Enjoy your trip, and keep an eye out for the little surprises. Sometimes they are the best.

Spiceycat ~ Thank you so much for those maps! Now I know where I'll be! ;)

Just a little helpful advice...if you want to explore any of the Disney hotels and resorts, just hop a bus to Downtown Disney and grab a bus to any of the other hotels and resorts. My husband and I stayed in Congress Park and did exactly that. We even took the five minute walk down the footpath to get there, too. From Congress Park, DTD is just one stop away. It was perfect because we had dinner at the California Grill (which I highly recommend) at the Contemporary, a character breakfast at the Grand Floridian, and even did a spur of the moment trip to the Wilderness Lodge for lunch just to check it out. I loved how close the bus station was at DTD for us. Because of that, nothing was too far away! Enjoy your trip!!!
