"What Not To Wear" - Show is on again May 29

hi everyone! i must say i got a bit of a scare today when i checked the TLC website and saw that someone else's name was listed for November 30th...maybe they changed the date again :headache: i sent an email to the show's Associate Producer to find out. my parents are having a catered party for their friends (none of whom i have ever even met, by the way! ) when the show airs so i do need to let them know if it changed...AGAIN...
in the meantime, i thought some of you might get a kick out of my friend JC (who you'll see on the show)'s halloween costume:

yes, he's pre-What Not To Wear me
love the costume! Keep us posted so we can set our Tivo's!
When I first looked at the pic, I thought it was a girl, til I saw what you wrote underneath. I was thinking, poor girl! :lmao:

I did too....thought it was a bit more than even What Not to Wear could help! Then I read the rest of the post!

I can't believe I just found this thread yesterday! I'm hooked, and can't wait to see the show. How incredibly cool! We just love the show, I was mad when they were teasing that poor girl about her Mickey shirt! When my DD was about 6, my mom asked her opinion on a shirt and DD said, "You know that show What Not to Wear? I think you should be on it!"

I have a question and I hope you can answer it. I've always wondered, besides the taxes on the $5000 did you have to pay for anything else or did the show cover it all? I'm assuming they paid for the travel and hotel costs, but what about things like meals? Do they give you money for food, or take you out to eat for every meal, or reimburse you later? Do you get some "free time" to explore New York while you're there, or is it pretty much all work for the show the whole time? I'm so curious about all the behind-the-scenes stuff and what it's REALLY like.

I've always wanted to be on this show. I've even downloaded the application and given it to my mom to nominate me, but she wouldn't do it! My DD9 probably would though. I don't think I dress hideously, but I do have a hard time finding clothes that look good on me and are in my teeny-tiny budget. I'm rather, uh... thick in the waist and fall right between sizes. The biggest "regular" sizes I can find are just a little too snug around the waist, but plus-sizes just fall right off of me and look horrible. I've always wondered where they would suggest I should shop? (I'm sure none of the stores would be found in Kansas!)

I'm so jealous!! Please please PLEASE keep us updated as to when your show will air! WNTW and WDW -- two of my favorite things rolled into one. Awesome!

No, Annie will have to wait. We want to see Kelly first!

Did you all see the show Friday night? There was a girl, I can't remember where she was from, that had a vintage gray mickey shirt! She cried several times when Stacy and Clinton threatened to take it! They let her keep it! At the end of the show she framed the front and had Stacy and Clinton autograph it! It was so cute!

I saw that and DH asked me if it was the DISer!! LOL I'm like 1 Mickey T-shirt, are you serious??? Of course she's not a DIS'er!!! LOL

I think I need to set the Tivo up so I don't miss it.

Hi to all the new people who found my thread  hopefully i'll have a real final date for you all soon :headache:

Yes, they covered everything! travel, meals - i even got a per diem of $30 a day in case i needed to get snacks or something from a pharmacy or whatever. The Associate Producer on my show was awesome and took me out for dinner almost every day.
i arrived on a Sunday and didn't have to do anything that day - i ended up having dinner with a local friend. on Monday night (the day we did the 300-degree mirror & trashed my wardrobe) i met up with another friend for drinks. but after that, i was shooting from about 8a to 7 or 8p each day (sometimes later - my last day wrapped at 1a!), so i would pretty much just go back to the hotel and drop into bed!

amusingly enough, i asked my college roommate to nominate me years ago :rotfl: she wouldn't do it - she wanted ME to nominate HER (yeah right - she dressed like a model!). it's just as well because they do some SERIOUS research and if they ever get an inkling that you know about it, the whole show was cancelled. apparently my friend who nominated me had quite a few heart attacks during the early stages of the process - she kept thinking that something someone said or did gave it away. luckily for her i am oblivious to everything!
i was suprised that a lot of the stores they took me to were places that could be found almost anywhere - old navy, banana republic, h&m, etc.

No, Annie will have to wait. We want to see Kelly first!

haha, i agree with you on that! sorry Annie!

i didn't see this show but the crew told me about it when i was shooting my episode. not sure if they mentioned it on the show, but i think she got the shirt when she was on a trip to WDW with her dad and it reminded her of that trip, which was one of the best times she had with him. i'm glad they let her keep it!

Your right about only 1 shirt! I didn't think about that and was wondering if she was a Diser!

That's very cool! I love the questions people are asking you, they are all things I was wondering about behind the scenes. I've been trying to figure out how many days you are actually there? Everyone says a week but if you shop for two days, it doesn't work out to a week. Did hair and makeup take a whole day?

I can't wait to see your show!:cloud9:

they did a behind the scenes show once about WNTW, and I think it did take the whole week. By the time you get there set up the clothes, one whole day for the mirror etc, the shopping, hair, makeup etc. I could see at least 5 days.

I would love to be on the show!

It is supposed to be a week, but it didn't quite work out that way for me. I arrived on a Sunday (travel day - didn't have to do anything except check in to my hotel room). Monday was the 360 mirror/trashing my closet/looking at the outfits they had picked out for me on those mannequins. Tuesday was shopping on my own. Wednesday was shopping with Stacy & Clinton. Thursday was hair & makeup. Now, most people then head home and on Friday they have their reveal with friends and family, but my job wouldn't give me Friday off. So on Thursday from around 9a-3p i was doing hair & makeup stuff, then i packed up all my things, then i got on a train with the director to philadelphia, got to philly around 8p, went to the place where my reveal was to shoot that, and then had to shoot my final interview. it went on until 1am (and i had to be at work at 7:30am the next day! :headache: )

I can't imagine buying a complete new wardrobe in just two days. Also there is the whole season thing. If you do this in the winter, what do you do about summer clothes and if you do it in the summer, what do you do about winter clothes. Do they suggest where you should shop or do you get to choose. I notice alot is at Macy*s on 34th street. I worked in the city for over 20 years so I recognize alot of the shops everyone goes into.

Can't wait to hear more and watch the show.

Linda

First, sorry about the breakup.

Second, I have the same black and white Mickey dress. I even have the matching shirt that I wear with black shorts. Oh no, I hope you did not have to give that up for the show. I also saw some great Mickey and Minnie t-shirts. I hope you still have them for your next trip to WDW. Can't wait to catch the show.

 You must have been exhausted!!! OMG!

I've always wondered about the seasons too. Some of the shows you see people complaining about how cold they are outside, and then they live down South where it doesn't get cold and all the stores carry at that time are winter clothes! It seems like they push a lot of outfits with jackets too. I love the look, but if you live in FL (like I did for 15 years) there is NO WAY you want to wear a jacket over a shirt and pants. I love the show but sometimes it seems like the things they suggest, which almost always look great, are just not practical for "real life" at all!

You know, i did go to that Macy's too, and i think it's because Clinton is their spokesperson ;)
I was wary about the whole season thing - i did seek out some sweaters & pants & jackets. I did end up with a ton of summer dresses though that i can't really wear for the next six months. oops! BUT, now i know how to shop for decent clothing, so i have purchased some winter items since i returned :thumbsup2
And to answer your other question, they did have a lot of stores that they selected for me, but if we did walk by a place i wanted to check out, they were fine with going in.

First, sorry about the breakup.
Thanks - that was (still is!) a tough one.

I love that dress!! I can't comment on what I did or didn't give up for the show yet though :ssst:

I thought that might be the case. All I know is that if I ever get chosen to be on that show all my Disney clothes are going under lock and key.

I always thought the same thing! I live in Florida and shorts are a necessity to avoid heat stroke most days. Plus, with a toddler, it's not realistic... or polite... to wear a skirt when you have to bend down a million times a day. It's hard enough shopping for clothes in our stores, since their merchandise is all dictated from the Northern states, let alone shopping for clothes in a Northern state. Wool and warm weather do not mix. :confused3

I'm still anxiously awaiting the show! As I shopped at WDW this weekend, I kept thinking "I wonder if Stacy and Clinton took this away from Philadisney?"

:lmao:

What To Wear To Disney - staring the DISboards.

I think we can teach Stacey and Clinton a thing or two about what to wear to Disney.

I know this has little to do with Philadisney, but I'm a toddler-mom and I wear skirts. Obviously no longer the short skirts I wore in college, but I have several knee-length flow-y skirts that I can easily bend over in, and even sit on the floor and play with Russ in. I do wear bloomers underneath, though, made of a slip material, just to protect my thighs against accidental exposure. So don't assume toddlers means no skirts for Mom! :teeth:

I just found this thread and cannot wait to see your show!! I watch just about every afternoon!!! What an incredible experience!

Not sure if you answered this already...did you get to bring anyone to NY with you or did you have to go alone?

Can't wait to see your episode!
