Well, after much debate and contemplation, we have decided to split our next stay between POFQ and WL. I have stayed before at POFQ but never at WL. So I am wondering what is on your must do lists when you stay at the WL? I will be there with my sister, her husband, and their 3 kids. The children will be between the ages of 5 and 14. It looks like there is an awful lot to do at the resort so I am looking for tips to narrow down the choices. Thanks everyone! :flower:

As soon as you check in, go to the Concierge and ask to be a Flag Family !! It is wonderful ! You are taken up to the roof and get to put up the flags, take pictures of the spectacular view and "pick the brain" of a wonderful, knowledgeable CM. It was the highlight of our stay. You receive a very nice certificate as well !! Do sign up as soon as possible or you may not get a date to do it while you are there !! We stayed from July 2 thru 10th. We signed up when we checked in on the 2nd and the next available date was the 10th !! Just made it !! Enjoy !

If you like loud and rowdy, eat one dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe. It's a lot of fun. Make sure the kids ask for ketchup. Go to Debs Unofficial Site and see the menu and "suggestions" at the bottom of the page (http://allearsnet.com/menu/menu_wc.htm). And also enjoy the atmosphere of WL, its beautiful and relaxing.

One of my most favorite memories from our whole trip was getting up early in the morning and wandering around the lodge. I would go to the lobby and sit next to the HUGE Christmas tree and people watch, then go out to the pool and enjoy a family of ducks who were living there and even got to catch the geyser going off! What a wonderful, relaxing time compared to the chaos of the parks. :cloud9: Whatever you do, you'll enjoy the Lodge!

We like to rent bikes and ride to Ft Wilderness. Also, take some time to walk around the resort. It really is beautiful!

When are you going? It's great to grab a cup of hot chocolate (or a glass of wine :flower: ) and sit by the relaxing fire! Also, make sure you check out the geyser at the top of the hour (it's a neat thing for the kids to see). Go up to some of the higher levels of the lodge to take pictures-it's just soo pretty (esp. when it's decorated for the holidays). :flower:

All these suggestions are wonderful. I would add try to meet Ranger Stan if at all possible. He is a WL mainstay, a treasure. I think it tickles him to know that he's an "internet legend".

He used to do the Flag Family tours (he did ours just after 9/11 and he made the ceremony so moving I almost cried!) but he's had hip surgery and I believe that keeps him from climbing all those stairs anymore! At any rate, he's often out front greeting guests and making everyone feel welcome. :)

we always enjoy having a nice warm drink like hot chocolate or coffee, sitting in the over-stuffed chairs on the second floor, and watching the people walk through the lobby.
We also enjoy having a late evening drink in the Territory Lounge and ordering appetizers from their menu. :)

Rent a bicycle and ride over to FW, Its lots of fun. Dont miss the Electric Light Parade from the beach. It is also a nice walk over to FW.

Have a meal at Artist Point. The food is superb, as is the service and wine list. I'm particularly fond of the buffalo, and the salmon is excellent, too. Though the restaurant is kid friendly, on our last visit the wife and I left our DD5 at the Cub's Den and enjoyed a leisurely, adult-oriented meal at AP. You might think along those lines, at least for the 5-yr old--our daughter loved Cub's Den. Stroll out to the beach chairs and watch the Electric Water/Light Parade. When you go to MK, be sure to take the boat. Rent a boat(s) or bikes. Check out the architecture, especially in the lobby. And just drink in the ambience. We enjoy WL because it is such a welcome respite from a day in the crowded parks. Have fun! :paw:
