We just got back from WDW yesterday night and the wife and I are somewhat dismayed by the lack of a "Welcome Home" from ANY CM at either the BWV or BCV, we stayed at both of them during our trip and never heard those magical words. The folks at BWV did manage to "lose" our luggage for several hours, that was a bit annoying. Didn't let either of these things spoil our trip, just way too many good things happened to let these minor annoyances get in the way. We have now spent time at OKW, BCV and BWV. We LOVE both OKW and BCV but cannot, for the life of us, figure out the huge attraction many people have to the BWV's?

I did not like BWV either when I stayed there. My husband either. I did like BCV and OKW. This is my opinion though others like it very much.

I hate it when I don't get a "welcome home." :( Someone needs to tell the CMs how much it means to us DVCers.

.....cannot, for the life of us, figure out the huge attraction many people have to the BWV's?

That's how I feel about OKW. :teeth:

I think part of the attraction about the Boardwalk area DVC properties is their location. There is a lot happening right in that area, and having the ability to walk/boat to Epcot and MGM means a lot to some people. I like the BW area properties, I also like OKW for it's slightly more "away from it all" feel, I like VWL for it's "tranquil" feel.

I think that's the beauty of the DVC...there's something or everyone's taste.

Well said Disney Doll, that is the beauty of the club, something there for everyone and every taste. I culdn't imagine being locked into the same week, or season for that matter, at the same place like many traditional timeshares.

Still wanna hear the "Welcome Home" though.........

I generally get the "welcome home" - but I do happen to be wearing my OKW, or BWV or WLV shirt - that seems to help them understand you are a member - and my car has the Disney Vacation Club tag on the front so the guard know too.

I generally also give the CM at the front desk the reservation confirmation that DVC sends.

I don't know which of these does it - maybe all or maybe they know I could not possible be checking in to their deluxe resort unless I was a member. I don't exact have great taste in cloths or shoes for that matter. Who knows?

My friends this past weekend thought the welcome home was SO corny. They actually started laughing. Perhaps if the cast members have encountered this reaction they quit doing it.

Personally, I think it is a bit strange and I feel like it is much more a marketing tool then a genuine welcome!!! (I mean they say it to everyone!) It really does not bother me if they skip it.

We just stayed at BCV, got "welcome homes" from the guard & the CM who checked us in. One thing to remember about BCV and VWL is that you check in at the BC and WL desks. These CM's see many more cash customers then OKW or BWV so "welcome home" probably doesn't come as natural to them, especially BCV which has only been a DVC resort since July. I'd cut them a little slack for now.

I agree, the welcome home is just a canned reponse, part of the job.

What is the huge attraction at BWV? That is why DVC is so wonderful, there is something for everyone. We can't understand what people rave about at OKW and we have OKW as one of our DVC homes! We used to have 2 contracts there but we sold one to buy a resale at BWV. Why did we buy at OKW if we do not like it? Because we bought when DVC first orginated and it was the only DVC resort and when it was the only DVC resort we thought it was ok, we then needed more points since we live so close to WDW and go so often so again we had no choice but to buy again at OKW. But when BWV opened we LOVED it and felt that BWV was the high caliber that a DVC resort should be, so we sold 1 OKW contract and bought at BWV, now we are going to sell the other OKW contract and buy at BCV. We feel the same way about BCV and VWL as we do BWV. We are fortunate to live in a very nice place in FL that is laid back and quiet when we go to WDW we want something different. Also we used to live in the real Old Key West for quite a few years and Disney's version of OKW is nothing like the real thing, the real thing is so much more fun. The first time DH and I saw OKW we laughed at how far off it is to the real thing.

The fact that it is a beautiful resort, in one of the very best, most sought after locations on WDW property, you can walk to 2 major parks, you can walk to Fantasia mini golf, has numerous great restaurants within walking distance, wonderful nighttime entertainment right outside your door, top shelf deluxe resort amenities, themed pool with a great pool slide, numerous shops within walking distance, convenience and location to everything, ultimate vacation luxury and pampering, etc., etc,. ........... might possibly be a few of the reasons for the huge attraction for many people. Just check out the rack rates for this resort, the numbers do not lie. Disney gets top dollar for anything they can and BWV is right up there with all of Disney's very best, as it should be.

Yeah, I just don't get the attraction.

I think it is the ingenious way that they have incorporated an exercise schedule into your vacation. You get a 1.2 mile walk to and from your room every day! Many find excuses to go back to their room for the additional workout.

Being able to clean the entire unit while standing in one spot has its advantages also.

I think many are behind Disney on their environmental efforts. Disney ingeniously designed a room that sleeps eight with dining space for two, this way people can eat in shifts, you only dirty two plates for the entire meal, just a quick wipe between diners, hey, its family, look at all the water and electricity saved by not running the dishwasher!

If you can't respond with true facts, why even bother to waste everyone's time with the same old sour grapes untruths????

The art of sarcasm is lost on many............
It might have been mildly amusing the first time it was said but after numerous repetitions of the same old thing it ceases to be amusing and is just plain boring and tiresome and smells quite distinctly like sour grapes.

We may all need to review the guidelines for this site. These do apply to boards, including the DVC Board.

Thanks!
