What music do you want played at your funeral?

DH and I went to a graveside service last winter and while I was standing there I actually thought about this. After the service I told DH & DD that I wanted to be cremated and I did want the song "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas played and I also wouldn't mind "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blus Oyster Cult.

Steam........Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye....just the refrain as they lower me into the ground.

I was told I had a tumor in my head a few years ago, and was scheduled for a risky surgery to remove it. (This is where one of my tags came from.) This caused my to think about this very question. When it came down to it, I told one of my friends to just hook my MP3 player up to the sound system and put it on shuffle. I didn't want to talk to my family about it or think to much about it because that seemed too fatalistic!

BTW, the "thing" is still in my head. It's not doing anything, and they decided at the last minute that it was riskier to remove it than to leave it there.

I'm going pretty classically religious...Eagles Wings, Here I Am Lord, Ave Maria. My only non-religious would be Danny Boy. Good one to sing, let everybody get a good cry in and then move on.

I can't decide between one requiem mass or some of my favorite movements from my favorite requiems. There would have to be some Faure, Mozart and Brahms and possibly some Cherubini and Durufle.

Funeral? Nope they're having a party! It's a family tradition. Then we go and change out toilets.

Chicken Dance
Hokey Pokey
Walking on Sunshine
Celebration

Love "Over the Rainbow"
Love "Freebird"
Love Love "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"
Love "Amazing Grace"

Winner: "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" - U2

You're my kinda person. :goodvibes

I'd start with "Nessun Dorma" to throw 'em offguard, then immediately seque into the Looney Tunes Theme. :lmao:

I've always said I wanted "One Particular Harbor" by Jimmy Buffett.

Then after the funeral, and everyone goes back to the house....I want "Piece of Work" also by Jimmy Buffett....it's my personal theme song.
I love "One Particular Harbor", but who doesn't? Anyone who hears it loves it. I've often been asked, "Who sings this? It's a great song!" when it is on in the car. (And "But, what are they saying?" :) )

"Piece of Work", on the other hand...

My two favorite singers of all time are Toby Keith and Jimmy Buffett. Never can decide whose songs I like more. So damn if I wasn't out that day to get the CD that had them singing a song together when it was released. Whipped it out of the package and went right to that song as soon as the car was on.

And though I've played the song a lot over the past few years, I just don't like it all that much. What a flippin disappointment.

"Let Down the Bars O Death" Samuel Barber from a poem by Emily Dickinson.

LET down the bars, O Death!
The tired flocks come in
Whose bleating ceases to repeat,
Whose wandering is done.

Thine is the stillest night,
Thine the securest fold;
Too near thou art for seeking thee,
Too tender to be told.

LET down the bars, O Death!
The tired flocks come in.

I went to the funeral of a friend of mine and few years ago and she wanted
"Dust in the Wind" played. She was cremated. What a sense of humor!:goodvibes

Bagpipes playing Amazing Grace, I do like the idea of playing My Wish for You by Rascal Flatts too.

I want whatever music happens to be accompanying the fireworks at WDW at the time. I've already told my DH and kids that I want to be cremated and I want them to take a grand vacation to WDW instead of spending that $$ on a funeral/burial. I've also asked them to scatter some of my ashes around WDW. ;)

Singin' in the Rain by Gene Kelly
Morning Has Broken by Cat Stevens
Is that All There Is? by Peggy Lee
When you Wish Upon a Star by Jiminy Cricket

And then I want everyone to go to McDonad's and get a Happy Meal with a toy.

I've told DH that when the time comes, I want my favorite hymn, "Because He Lives," played at my funeral. I also love "How Great Thou Art" and "I Bowed on My Knees and Cried Holy." I want the focus to be on God and how I will be with Him.
