I am just curious what makes the Poly so wonderful? Their cheapest room is still a lot higher than other deluxes such as WL and AKL... Why? I am considering staying there this Sept for a couple nights but I am trying to justify the difference in price and I just can't..

great tropical music

delicious pina coladas

one of the friendliest staffs I've ever seen

nice rooms

perfect location

cool pool

great views

awesome restaurants

and I can't explain it...but an absolutely calming, tranquil and beautiful atmosphere. I think the resort is totally addictive, and merely saying it's tranquil doesn't do it justice. It's hard to find a place that entertains little kids, but still feels relaxing for adults. Somehow, the Polynesian pulls it off...at least for me.

I have to agree with veruka. Alot of the magic we experience at Walt DisneyWorld starts with the resort and the Polynesian is filled with magic.

I have had so many family members ask why we keep going back to the Polynesian when there are so many other resorts to choose from and like veruka, I can't explain it either. I guess when I walk around the grounds of the Polynesian which I do every trip, it really does feel like I'm someplace that is tranquil and calm. Makes for a MUCH better vacation experience.

Once you go several times, you pick a resort that you call your favorite place to stay or your vacation home... for us.. it's the Polynesian Resort!

Ditto!! What they said!!

The Poly has an indefinable quality, a special something that just makes your vacation.

Also, WDW prices it's deluxe resorts according to the proximity to the parks - the Poly is on the monorail, and the monorail resorts are the most expensive.:wave2:

Apart from the above - Location, location, location!

Also, the regular rooms at the Polynesian can sleep 5 people, unlike the regular rooms at the Yacht & Beach Clubs, Boardwalk Inn, Wilderness Lodge, and Animal Kingdom Lodge, so this adds to the price of the room as well. (The Grand Floridian and the Contemporary rooms also sleep 5).

Just like in any real estate, LOCATION is one of the most important things. Being on the monorail is very convenient but not only that, it gives you an awesome view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks, and the Electric Water Parade right from your room, or from the beach of Polynesian if you have a garden view room.

For the price we're paying for a lagoon view room for our trip this summer we could stay concierge at any of the other deluxe resorts (except for the Grand Floridian) for the same money, or even less, but my DH and I both agree that all that the Polynesian has to offer is definitely worth it :sunny:

Gee, I'm not so sure I trust everyone's endorsements of The Poly... I think I'm going to have to stay there and make up my own mind.... Oh the sacfrices I must make!;) Now if I could only get my dh to let me make reservations.......

Just a quick interuption for a slight correction. The YC/BC and BWI have standard rooms that sleep 5 as well... ;)

Sorry, no Polynesian room insight - we haven't stayed there yet - but the grounds and pool are lovely - they have some great stores and restaurants and that monorail access to MK and the short walk to TTC Monorail would be VERY nice.

Thanks for the correction! I sit corrected ;) I thought there wasn't a daybed in the Y&B Club regular rooms? Hmm... I guess I've been wrong all this time, that's why we've not considered staying there on trips when we have DSs with us. I didn't realize the rooms there were large enough to hold 2 beds plus a daybed. Learn something new every day :teeth:

We are looking to stay here for 2 nights before we check into BCV's...

Do you recommend Poly for 3 year old and 9 month old?

You all are really convincing me to spend the extra money and stay here...

What makes Poly so great?

For us, the answer is the wonderful staff and the Poly's location. I have yet to find a resort that has a more friendly and cheerful staff.

We are staying at the Poly this trip. With the ages of your children either the Poly or CR would be great for one main reason- monorail! It is so much easier if MK is your major destination to stay at these two resorts.

What makes the Polynesian great??? Three words...

Monorail, monorail, monorail!

Seriously, we stayed at the Polynesian last summer in the Tahiti longhouse and it was so convenient to walk to the TTC and catch a momorail to the MK or Epcot. Or we could catch a boat to the MK (very cool trip) or GF.

The other great thing about the Polynesian (and what I think is going to tip the scales in my choose of the Poly or WL for this summer) is the size of the room. The rooms in Tahiti are approx 450 sq ft versus WL which are 350 sq ft. We loved the room and my 5 year old loved the day bed ( so in affect we had three beds in the room, happiness for everyone). Hope this helps.:earsboy:

The Polynesian really has a charm all its own. It's hard to define what is so nice about it. It's actually not my very favorite resort, but each time I return to it I feel somehow like I'm coming home. It has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere coupled with a terrific location. In my opininon, it's the most conveniently located Disney resort with its easy monorail access to the Magic Kingdom and the ability to walk to the TTC directly to get the Epcot monorail. Plus, I love the restaurants at the Poly (Kona Cafe and 'Ohana are two of my very favorite places to eat at WDW). If you don't feel that you can justify the additional cost then I encourage you to stay elsewhere. I think you might not enjoy it as much if the additional cost bothers you a little. Don't worry though, every Disney resort has a special magic, so you really can't go wrong. :)

Location
Best transportation options of any resort
Direct view of MK and castle
Large rooms with daybed
Excellent theming and landscaping
Nice beach
Evening view of fireworks and Electric Water Pageant
Good restaurants

As far as theming goes, the landscaping is superb; it is a joy just to walk down the torchlit paths in the evening. If you have ever visited the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, you will recognize its influence on the design and architecture of the Polynesian Resort.

When we checked in last Dec, we were given leis (cheap plastic ones, but that's OK) and there was a CM in polynesian garb leading a musical activity in the lobby. You won't find such a greeting at just any resort.

My wife and I are going in 5 days to stay at the Poly for a week and boy are we excited. It will be our first time and although we are big fans of the Yacht/Beach Club resort we are ready to try this resort.

I love convenience and although I thought the WL was great it was a Pain to get around. The Poly has 4 ways to return from the MKand 4 way to go, there is the dining at all the resorts on the monorail line and the monorail to Epcot. That alone is going to be worth it for me not to mention the views and Kona cafe. I hear it's romantic too.;)

I've never stayed there. But I'm going to in just 3 short days! I've enjoyed this thread. If I wasn't excited enough about our trip, now I'm super-over-excited. We love the Yacht & Beach Club but decided to try the Poly this trip because the AP rate was pretty darn good. We're quite excited.

Too excited to sleep

"Uncle Albert" who posted above is my husband. He can't count. We're going Monday....that's 3 days not 5.

That man....

I like that he said "I heard it's romantic too."

All these wonderful posts about the poly are making me so excited!! I can almost feel myself there. I have ressies for 3/20-3/26 and it will be my first time there. :Pinkbounc
