What makes Poly so great?

LOL Pam!::) :)

it is a romantic place. I went there on my honeymoon 10 years ago, and even though my last trip back was with two little kids, the romantic atmosphere still prevailed.

Try to grab a swing on the beach and a cocktail and watch the electric parade or just the changing colors of the castle. It's fabulous.

Don't miss 'Ohana either. Even though it's a family style restaurant, if you make a late enough seating and get a table by the window, it's still pretty magical. Great food, too.

We'll be at CSR for our next trip, but will be back at the Poly in May!:wave2:

Wow......I havent been on the boards probably since August. Just started planning our nest trip and my son wanted to try the Poly. We have already stayed at the Contemporary for our first trip, (which was wonderful!) and the BC last June. (also great) I wanted to come on here this evening and ask if anyone could let me know anything about the Poly. Great Timing!!! What is so cool about Disney is that even though your going back to the same place, you can make it very different by what resort you stay at........I love that, and so do the kids. DS is 15 and DD is 12............and they still vote for a Disney Vacation!! (Thank Goodness!!) So anyway!!! The Poly it is!!! Thanks everybody!!!::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :cool1: princess:

I can't wait to stay at the Poly! :Pinkbounc Tomorrow is the day we have been waiting on for 8 months! I'll let you know how we fare with the room choice and everything. I'm sure we'll be thrilled with everything.

First off, I love your name..........dreamalittledream.......how perfect that sums how Disney World makes people feel.
Second- Have a fantastic time, and please let me and all of us know all about your trip!!! Hope you and your Little Princess princess: have a wonderful time!!!

Luv2trav - The Poly is great for a 3-year old and a 9 month old because it has a zero entry pool where your little ones can walk into as deep as they want. There is also a great beach and a childs splash area nearby. The Poly is also very convenient to MK which is probably where you will go the most with young children. The rooms are big and comfortable and virtually all of the views are great. We loved it there in 02, but unfortunately there are no discounts for when we are going in May. Maybe (hopefully) that will change. Jay

We just returned from 7 nights at the poly. We had rooms 1903 and 1904. They were connecting rooms which worked very well. Our in-laws watched our 4 year old son one night when we strolled to the grand floridian. The patio was fabulous. We were visited by ducks and bunnies that came up very close. If we angled our chairs just right we could see the castle. Or we could put our chairs on the grass and see the castle very well. For a garden view room, they were very nice! The quiet pool was very close for quick swims. The volcano pool is so nice for our 4 year old with the zero entry. On Friday night (our last night) we watched the fireworks while swimming! We enjoyed the fireworks and electrical water pageant from the beach.
Ohana's was wonderful for breakfast. Although we seem to get bored of the few choices at Capt. Cook's, the food was always good. Being on the monorail is so much easier with a small child in tow. Or my son's grandparents in tow, for that matter! The rooms are quite large compared to AKL and WL. I love the theming at both of those hotels, and really adore those hotels but the standard rooms are so small. Our son loves sleeping in the daybed at the Poly. The staff is the friendliest that we've encountered on propertly. Granted, the lobby isn't the most impressive and in the rain walking to the main building isn't the greatest experience, but the rest of the amenities seem to outweigh those negatives for us right now. When our son is older, we may venture further away from the monorail resorts again. We are now debating between GF (which we've stayed at in the past) or returning to the Poly again. I never thought I'd choose any hotel over the GF but Poly has really won our hearts. My husband and I just feel more peaceful there.
We requested early maid service each day. (We return to our hotel for our son's nap as he doesn't nap at home any more but always naps at WDW. It's nice down time for everyone.)

I never thought I'd like the poly (or love it!) after quickly visiting the lobby area on a past trip. But after visiting Tikiman's web site and trying out the resort in 2002, we fell in love and just returned from 7 nights. I'm really leaning towards going back there in Dec. 2004 too.

I'm so happy to hear what a great time you had at the Poly! We also are planning to go around December. Like you, I figured the Poly being one of the Original Hotels at Disney, and having walked through the Lobby before, I never thought I would want to choose to stay there. But because it was my sons idea, and then finding how much people really do adore it. I can't wait to give it a try! Stayed at the Contemporary and The Beach Club. Great Resorts. But really do like being on the monorail. Aslo, how can I get to Tikimans website? I'd love to see it since it help change your mind too!!

Once again, glad you had a wonderful trip!

For anyone with any doubts just check out those pictures the Dis has added! Wow! I decided one just had to be my desktop background (I hope that's okay).

Now I'm off to reconfirm my Christmas choice by daydreaming at tikiman's site, lol......

We stayed at the Poly 12/03. It was our first trip and DS6 & 8 completely fell in love with the Poly. The pool, the sandy beach, coming back to the resort to see fireworks every night, the Electric Water Pagent; there is so much to take in! Walking the grounds in the evening with all the torches lit and hearing the tropical music was a great way to leave the parks behind at the end of the day. Very relaxing! The best part for me is that my DH was so impressed with the resort he told me to start a vacation fund so that we can return every 2 years!!! (If you have ever had to travel with my DH-or wait in line with him at Home Depot- you can appreciate what a huge deal this is). The Polynesian MUST be supplied with an over-bundance of Pixie dust to turn my DH into a WDW-traveller!
:D

We just returned from our very first stay at the Poly. We stayed in the Samoa Building, third floor Rm 3602. For us this was a great place, right outside the elevator with a great view of the volcano pool, and within easy walking distance of both boat docks and main building. It was a little noisy being poolside, but we expected that, so no problem. Any way at the end of the day we were to tired to be bothered by any noise! We only stayed four days but they were great! Our granddaughter loved watching fireworks from the pool.

Sorry - have changed signature.:)

It was our first time there - we usually stay at YC or BC and we were nervous about the Poly. It's fantastic! Our new favorite resort and you asked "what makes the Poly so great" so here are my answers:

1) CONVENIENCE. We loved all the transportation options. Boat, monorail ferry from either the GCH or TTC.

2) View. Nothing like staying right on the Seven Seas Lagoon. We booked a garden view but it was a short walk to the beach where we relaxed and watched the boats and ferry go by. And, not to mention, the castle and space mountain. Oh, and GF isn't bad to look at either. In the evening, with all this lit up, SPECTACULAR. It was so nice to watch the Fireworks and Electrical Water Pageant from the Lagoon.

3) Lush surroundings. We loved the foilage and tropical surroundings. Very relaxing. My husband loved the tiki torches. I think he's going to Lowes today to buy us some. LOL!

4) Magic! I can't deny that the Poly has a mystical "magic" about it. It encompasses all that Disney is about. I really felt Walt's spirit there.

5) Pool - It's not Stormalong Bay but we did like the pool. Love the underwater Hawaiin music and zero entry is cool. I also liked the beach area near the pool. It's almost as if it spills out into Seven Seas Lagoon. Fun!

6) Cast members - quite exceptional cast members. Everyone we passed looked us in the eye and said Aloha! Very nice!

7) Big rooms - WOW! The rooms are huge. Much bigger than YC/BC. Balconies are large.

We're going back!

Oh thank you for this thread. If any of you ever pay attention to my crazy posts you know I have a terrible time choosing resorts. But I did make ressie for the Poly in October and now I'm so excited. I think my kids will love the new pool area, they will be 3 and 8.

Ok...you all have me convinced. I just booked the Poly this morning for 10 nights in July. :Pinkbounc

We were trying to decide between the Poly & AKL (the 2 resorts my DD really wants to try) and the Poly won out...you just can't beat the convenience of the monorail (especially in the heat of July...we really enjoyed that during our stay at the GF in July 2002). I can hardly wait. :)
