What makes a DVC stay different from a regular resort stay?

I decided this trip (just returned last night) that we actually like NOT having the daily service like you would get at a regular resort. Actually....I prefer to NOT even get the full cleaning and will probably stick to 7 nights at a time in a resort for this very reason. I have always felt like i needed to move stuff from the bathroom in a regular resort (toiletries and such) when the daily service was done. If something needs wiping down..I have no problem doing it. We were at OKW for 6 nights so the trash and towel service was plenty. My dh takes the trash out and I washed the towels so we were good.

Also if you don't want housekeeping or trash and towel service you can purchase a towel pack (for $6 I think?) and you will exchange your old towels for fresh.

Exactly!!

We drive sometimes and bring extra towels with us.
Don't bring white ones.

If you are in a 1 or 2 bedroom, its easy to put them in the wash as you leave out, and put them in the dryer when you come back.

We love staying DVC! When we stayed in the resorts, we would hang up our towels to "help the environment" but the maids kept taking them anyway... Now we can re-use and wash them when we want. We have 5 in our family, and always have plenty of towels.

I never use the provided toiletries anyway- DH takes them and has a collection that will sustain us in the case of a Great Soap and Shampoo Shortage. :rotfl: We usually bring laundry soap or buy some at Publix, and I love being able to pack lighter and wash clothes before going home.

I have not missed the daily maid service - I always feel like I am in their way if I am there when they come by, and I feel like I have to put stuff away.;)

You definitely get used to it, and the perks of membership are way better than maid service!:thumbsup2

We we're certain that we'd miss the daily mousekeeping visit. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was not to have interruptions. Staying at SSR for us is like our home away from home.

Boy, reading all these messages makes me wonder if I am going to enjoy my membership... I just bought into BWV and have my first trip planned for next Sept. One of the things I have always loved about WDW is being pampered - the high end resorts and high end restaurants and the incredible service. I am not really looking for a "home away from home" where I do laundry and clean house. I am one of those women who always preferred working longer hours to pay for a maid. I have a wonderful pool at home... I like daily maid service and clean towels. I bought into DVC so I could go more often and less expensively - I would live there full time if I was able. Is there anyone out there like myself who accepts the fact of no daily maid service at the villas, but doesn't really enjoy it? I am feeling a bit like an oddball....

The beauty of it is that you can still be pampered like that. You just have to pay extra for that service.

Well I would love to have a maid again. I had one for about 4 years when we lived in Japan. She came every Friday and did all the laundry but I still did laundry and some cleaning during the week. Now if I were rich and could have daily maid service at home......yeah I would want it at DVC too. :rotfl2:

I actually don't clean when I am there.....we don't trash the place in a week anyway. I don't mind keeping up with the laundry either. When I had my maid I still felt like I needed to "pre clean before she came" pick stuff up and what have you. So that is why I prefer not to get the full cleaning at Disney...becaues I do that there too before they come.

I really enjoy NOT having mousekeeping in every day! It's less worry for us, especially by mid-trip when we've done a good bit of shopping! I don't miss my bed being made and we don't use fresh towels every day at home, why do it at our other home?? :rotfl: We just hang our towels up to dry like we do at home.

Oh I don't have a daily maid at home - I have someone once a week, but she changes the sheets and straightens as well as cleans. As a child it was my job to clean the kitchen every night and to clean house once a week - I hated it and so now will do most anything not to have those chores. So on vacations one of the things I treasure most is NOT having to make beds and wipe things down.

I had not thought about paying extra for maid service. Not I have to really decide if it is worth the extra money! It would be really funny if I decide to do it myself!
