What made you buy DVC?

Ahhhhhhh...owning a piece of the MOUSE!
Can't touch it!

We all made that decision to purchase a DVC and
I was curious of what was your deciding factor(s).

Mine, in a nutshell, was when I took my wife &
daughter to WDW and while staying @ the Poly
had a cast member at a DVC kiosk ask me over...
2 months later we bought at SSR!:cool1:

A friend bought into DVC back when there was only OKW and has loved it. She brought my family along and we were hooked. It was so much more enjoyable to have the room and the kitchen than just a hotel room.

We have owed for about 5 years now and are so happy. We've brought lots of family with us too.

When I figured out that I was going to be priced out of the deluxe accommodations that my family loves before too long. :goodvibes

We came back from our every other year trip. The girls were getting too big for 4 of us to stay at a value. We've stayed at moderates my wife and I, they are only a few sq. ft bigger. 2 rooms or a value suite was our next option. I ran the number based on our resent trip and the numbers for DVC. If we bought from resale (The TimeShare Store) they work out to be the same. Here is the thing after 8 trips the number now changed. All we would have then were the dues.
Now you get a deluxe resort at value prices. We never included the discounts (slimmer and slimmer) in our figures. My wife was on the fence but the discount pushed her over.
We bought DVC sight unseen. I never even stopped at a booth. The first thing my wife said after our first trip home was "we need to get more points" Good luck and buy at a resort you want for home. It's not alway easy to get a res.

stayed at POR (then called Dixie landing) and spend around $4,000 for rooms (needed 2), tickets (needed 6) and food. This was in 1993.

then the entire price for DVC was $10,925. When we returned home, DVC send me a letter saying it had lower the points to needing 190 from 230.

Joined that week.

in those days DVC also brought the tickets. (miss that)

What encouraged us to buy DVC? Simply put: our employer(s) quit paying for our stay! (Beyond that, owing DVC seemed like a better idea than shelling out cash for the Yacht Club every year.)

uhm could we blame it on drinking around the world in Epcot? LOL

Actually because we go every year and stay in deluxes. It will be half paid for with our 2 trips this year.

DH and I are frequent visitors and average about one trip every 12-18 months. We graduated from the values and started staying at the mods, but we generally stay 8-10 days and after the 5th day our room looked like animals lived in it. We had looked at DVC back in 2003 but weren't in a good financial position to take the plunge. It was becoming more and more expensive to go so we finally made the purchase. Our only regret is not buying in sooner, however, the wait was worth it because now we can comfortably afford it. Now we are saving to add on!! :cool1:

:rotfl2: Us too!

We were at the Yacht Club last year because I was attending training there. We looked at the models at Boardwalk just for grins really. We were certain that we would have no interest whatsoever. We were surprised that it was affordable and impressed with the accomodations. DH took the tour (I was ill) and we brought the information home to look at it. We did the research, ran the numbers and honestly could not find a reason NOT to do it. We will be staying at WDW three times this year. Total cash price for all three stays combined would be ~$5,400. We are very pleased with our decision!

Getting tired of the ever increasing room prices for the deluxe resorts is what pushed us over the edge. Back in 1999 when we purchased we were in the Swan paying close to $200/night with a view of the roof of one of the room wings roof. The thought of having a room overlooing the Boardwalk and Spaceship Earth sealed the deal.

Was a former Disney Nut (once a Disney nut, always a Disney nut?). Anyway, DW encouraged me to take her and DS on vacation at WDW. First she looked at AKL and thought we could go to Africa at that price. Then we looked at WL and thought it looked right, so we went. Saw the DVC kiosk there and took the tour. They were selling SSR at the time. I wasn't buying, saying that I'll take VWL via resale. That's when I was told they were selling VWL through Disney. I bought with Disney and then added on at VWL and at AKV.

My grand daughter (with my daughter) will be staying with us at VWL this coming December for the first time! I can't wait. I'm going to plan this vacation around her. :)

I had been looking at DVC for a few years. At one point about 6 years ago, I sent in a request to talk to a salesperson. They never responded because I live in California.
A few years ago, we went to WDW for 10 days. We booked at the Caribbean Beach, a "moderate" lodging. LOL, it was the size of a shoebox and on the ground floor on a walkway so we really couldn't open the curtains. The little courtyard outside our room was a mud pit with cigarette butts floating in it. (smokers are pigs but that's a different thread) It's not the kind of thing that you would see in the brocures.
After regretting this choice for a few days, I was talking to one of the kiosks-o-plenty ladies and I set up a tour. We spoke to the guide for a while then went on the tour. When the guide opened the door to the one-bedroom and we walked inside to a roomy, bright, well-equipped suite, my wife turned and whispered "How long until we can sign?" The Queen has Spoken!
Until that point, she had been the voice of reason and moderation and I was shocked. She's now the driving force behind our vacation plans. I think that it's the Jaccuzi tub that drives her.
We haven't stayed in a muddy shoebox since.

Rented at BWV with a view of the boardwalk FELL IN LOVE with the whole experience, but not the cash price if we went through CRO. At that point I started plotting... errrr ... planning to buy in.

We stayed through renting points a few more times at VWL, AKV and VWL again and each time it got harder, not to rent, but to know that those weren't my points I was using, and that if I did have my own I'd be able to do the planning without a middle man.

It didn't hurt that when I finally did buy in there were a few great incentives being offered at the time. :)

Mid-life crisis! :)

...and so glad we did!

When the boys were five we took them to Disney World. Evey day I had to sit in a dark room while they took a nap. I thought I was going to lose my mind. I saw a table about DVC, when I got home I found this website and learned all about it. It's been five years and I am still happy with my decision and my one bedrooms.

We have gone to Disney almost every year since 1994 and have stayed in deluxe rooms all but one of those times.

We fell in love with the Contemporary and when they announced that BLT was to be, we knew that it was time to invest.

My DH and I love to vacation in WDW and knew we had many more years left of going, even though the kids are now 20, 16, and 13.

So, here we are...brand new DVC members and couldn't be more excited about this. My children are already excited about the fact that there will be points for them down the road to visit with their families!!!!

We'd been thinking about DVC for years, but always had a reason that the time wasn't yet right. We were planning our third Deluxe stay in 18 months, when we decided that we were just throwing money away. We always stayed deluxe and we almost always got either a suite or two rooms, as DM likes to come with us. We decided to go ahead and buy instead of taking that third trip last fall. We put our trip off until January and used our developer points to stay at SSR.
