I am taking my 3 yr. old in Aug. and she is very tall (37 in.) for her age. The umbrella strollers seem too small. Can anyone tell me a recommendation on what type to buy that is not so small but very portable. We like it to recline for naps and a big storage area below is sooo nice.
Any suggestions?

there are as many answers as there are people with kids!

We used an umbrella stroller for my dd when she was 3.5 and 4.5 and it was fine - I went for a very basic model that didn't recline but she still managed to nap in it a few times. I think if you look at different models you should be able to find an umbrella stroller that is suitable for a 3.5 year old (I am not that familiar with US models, we have different ones over here, but mine was a Maclaren which I know you can get but they are pricier than over here)

this is similiar to mine

for a younger child I would recommend something more substantial, with a recline, so that baby can nap, but for a 3 year old I would go with a lightweight stroller that will be easy to handle on buses and trams etc.

I know we saw a lot of people with a larger looking umbrella stroller when we were there last year, but I can't remember the brand. I'll have a look and see if I can find it anywhere.

We just bought ours for our trip last weekend. We got a really good deal on a Eddie Bauer lite stroller. It has a large basket underneath, two cupholders for adults, great canopy, snack tray for little one, collapses with one hand mechanism and after it closes it locks closed and has a handle on the side to carry. oh, and it reclines back but not totally flat........we love it....good luck on your search.

I know this sounds like a cop-out, but I've found that I need to test drive strollers with ds in them - there have been some that seemed perfect when I looked at them on line - but he just didn't fit right for whatever reason - or I didn't like the way the seat reclined - or folded - or the basket - or the cup holder (you get the picture?)

I also found that pushing them on the floor with ds in them was a whole lot different than trying them out empty - I figured if they were difficult to push or manuver in the store - then they'd be really hard to push on even the smoothest pavement at WDW

I first went to the store (babies r us) and checked them all out without ds with me - narrowed down the list and went back with him.

Chicco makes a sturdy umbrella stroller that not only reclines, but it also has a basket and a hood. I saw it at Babies R Us-$69.

We went through the same thing with my 3.5 year old DD. She is 41 inches and is ALL leg, lol! Her feet were dragging on most of the umbrella strollers. We finally splurged and bought a Maclaren Vogue which one of their higher models. The bottom models didn't have as deep of a seat so her legs weren't as comfortable as in the Vogue.

I did notice the last time I was at babies r us that Baby Trend just put out a stroller that is similar to the Maclarens but a whole lot cheaper (around $59, I think). I didn't examine it since we already have the Maclaren but it might be worth looking into. I love our Maclaren but the basket isn't all that big.

That is funny that you should say that, bartleby! We went to Babies r Us with every intention of purchasing the Chicco that I mentioned previously. But, when we got there, I saw the Baby Trend and fell in love with it. The sales person said it has all the features that the Maclaren has! It is called The Eurotrend by Baby Trend and is made exclusively for Babies R Us. You can not even get it online through R US. Infact, most Babies R Us are sold out of it! Luckily, after calling 6 stores, I managed to locate one! :teeth:

OK guys! Now I'll be on the big quest to find that stroller! My DH says I am obsessive about trying to find the "hard to find" things! Thanks for all the good info! Our trip isn't until Aug. 7th so I will have some time to do some searching.
Thanks everyone for your input!!
