10 day trip...how much cash/travelers checks?

Could we just charge everything to our room?

or

Charge everything on credit card?

Which works better??

I went for 8 days in August (with DD and two GK) and took $200 in cash ... I "attached" my credit card to my "world" key card and charged most everything. I only used cash to purchase small items (water bottles) from carts and to tip the skycap at the airport. I came home with about $100-$125.

Oh, I had also brought snack size baggies filled with quarters and pennies so my grandkids could make pressed pennies in the parks.

This may sound strange, but personally I leave my credit cards at home, take travelers checks, and a little bit of cash for our day of travel coming and going. We've never had any problem cashing them at the resorts, places to eat, or shops. I guess I'm fobic about having my room key as my charge card also, it's to easy to charge for me.

I also put the majority of my purchases on my room key. That way, everything is charged to my credit card as one lump sum instead of a bunch of smaller purchases. Also, I earn the rewards points for using my CC. I only carry a small amount of cash to pay for things that I can't put on my room key (water, ice cream, etc.). The most important thing to remember is, though, is to have the money already in the bank. That way, when your CC bill comes, the money is already in the bank to pay off the bill. Do not charge anything against your room that you can't pay off once your credit card bill comes.

Hope this helps!

My wife and I go 2-3 times a year and hardly ever bring much cash. I prefer to just charge everything to our room. Easier to deal with and you don't need to carry much around the park. I usually bring my room key (to get into the parks and charge), some ID and $20-$40 in cash. Some places do not take your room key for charging (most of the stands--not in a building--throughout the park do not). For the most part, just about everyone can take your key for a charge.

We always bring cash and do not use our credit cards at all. We were there in August for 8 days and used about $950 in cash at the parks. We did have two nights where we splurged on dinners in Mexico and Canada at Epcot. If we hadn't done that...we could have gotten by with about $700..about $100 a day. We were a family of 5...two ds are older tho and had spending money of their own, but even with buying them an occassional special item and they ate with us at least one meal a day, sometimes two, we did fine on what we took...we ate in the parks each day, but this year, we did not buy anything for ourselves.

We always bring about $1,000 in Traveler's Checks (for meals and souvenirs) ... about $250 in Cash (for tips, water, ice cream bars) ... and I also leave my CC at the front desk so I can charge things to our room - just in case. ;)

We charge everything we can to our room. That gives me a record later of what we spent where. However, there are some things that you can't charge in addition to the water, ice cream in the parks etc. If you are flying, you may want snacks in the airport or drinks on the plane. You also have to be able to pay for any meals you eat off site or a grocery stop if you make one. You will also want small bills to tip the bellman, etc.

DH and I have a Visa and a Mastercard. When we travel anywhere, one of us brings the Visa and the other brings the Mastercard. That way, if the worst happens and one of our wallets is stolen, we still have the other credit card to use.

Can you use your room key to make charges at DTD shops and restaurants?

Yes you can, drcmk. The only places that don't accept room charges are the free standing soda/ice cream carts inside the theme parks.

We will be there for 7 days. We will have paid for our room in full before we arrive. We have our 5 day PHP's paid for already. I am budgeting for about $1000 in food and $1000 in goodies/tips/MVMCP/pressed pennies, and such. Our trip will run about $3500 in total. We usually put the bank check card on the room key and charge most everything back to the room. We do tend to carry roughly $100 in cash on us for things that the cart vendors sell and can't charge back to the room. We tally up the damage at the end of every day and that way, anything not spent can be used as a bonus for another day. It works for us.

I would NEVER use a credit card to finance a vacation.

Credit Cards are the Devil's work. IMHO Mickey

by bank card do you mean debit card...where it comes straight out of you checking account? I f so didn't know you could do that, not sure if I want to but would be easier than cash but less tempting than credit!
