New to DVC, and plan on having a one bedroom when we are at WDW for more than a few days. Trying to think of ideas for quick meal ideas for breakfast and lunch, and maybe even a dinner or two.

what kind of meals/food/snacks do you cook while at Disney?

We don't do alot of cooking-like to have bagels and fruit in the villa before heading out and wine and snacks when we return. We have reheated leftovers from meals out as a quick lunch. I think all these new frozen meals in a bag would be quick and easy-Bertolli and the Contessa from the cooking shows has a line of Chinese meals-I haven't tried them, but with rolls and a salad you'd be set. :)

We always do breakfast in the room. I get 18 eggs, the shake and pour pancake mixes (it's easy), a coffee cake, and at least 1 box of cereal. We also get snacks for the pool. If I were doing a dinner (which I haven't), I'd do something easy like Taco's or spaghetti, or in the winter something in a crock-pot. Hope that gives you some ideas. Breakfast is definitely EASIER in the villa than trying to get everyone ready and then go out to breakfast.

We typically go to Publix the first night after checking in to the resort. We fix anything from grits, eggs and pancakes to cereal and pop-tarts for breakfast. We have made cheeseburgers, spaghetti or whatever for dinner. The way my wife and I approach our vacation is this: the rooms and the park tickets cost alot of money. We normally have the tickets bought well in advance of our trip. The room is covered under our DVC membership. The other costly part of the trip other than shopping is eating. Some years we dine out alot. Some years we do not. We went to WDW this past Christmas and I do not think combined we spent more than $200.00 dollars on eating out. We bought groceries and ate most of our meals in the villa. So it just depends on where you are. If you can afford to eat out then by all means enjoy yourself. If you prefer to prepare your own meals and save a buck or two then go ahead. Just my opinion.

This is our basic list

eggs - used for breakfast and also hard boiled for sandwiches and salads
bread - toast and sandwiches
fruit
yogurt
veges including salad stuff
sandwich meat
makings for spaghetti
water

This list gets us through a 5 night stay. But my DH and I are not fancy eaters. And as long as I make one huge pot of spaghetti the first day, my DH is happy, breakfast, lunch or dinner.

We had a 2 bdrm/studio last summer with 10 people. Spent $250.00 on groceries for 1 week, including 3 cooked dinners. Went out 3 nights, Boma, Cape May and Ohanas.

Thanks everyone...those are some good ideas. I figured we would eat breakfast in the room just about every day. Since it is going to be HOT when we go....most likely will be back in the room for lunch as well. Not too sure about cooking a full dinner or not....I think this one trip we have a dinner ADR for almost every night. (not something we will always do).

thanks again!!:goodvibes

I remember a trip report where someone described east taco salad. The bought taco seasoning mix, ground beef, single serving grab bags of doritos and bagged salad. Once the taco meat was cooked, anyone could nuke a bit, open a bag of chips, drop in some meat and salad and have a quick meal. For some
Reason, this has stuck in my mind for years!

We fix breakfast and snacks. We usually have hot dogs, grill cheese, and soup for occasional lunches. If we are there a week or longer, we eat out all but 2 nights. One night we order pizza from Papa John's, bring a cooler with drinks, and a salad down to the quiet pool and have a pool party. Lots of folks say what a good idea that is, and we really enjoy it.

Another night we will cook burgers on the grill. I buy a small bag of charcoal to use on the grills. We add fruit salad and potato salad. We always stay at our home resort - the Beach Club Villas - and there are grills and picnic tables down by the quiet pool.

Costco has good prepared meals. We like the rotiserie chicken. They have a nice variety of good meals ready to go. You could feed a family for the cost of one meal at Disney.

Sorry, I don't go on vacation to cook.:goodvibes

I remember a similar post some time ago when this same question was asked. The poster responded 'I don't cook at home, so why would I cook on vacation.' Dear husband and I get a laugh out of this on a very regular basis.

Enjoy planning!

A stop at Publix or Winn Dixie is a must for us as well. We buy bottled water, milk, fruit, yogurt, bagels and frozen pizza. Sometimes we never even cook the froz, pizza. For us, in theory, it's nice to have that kitchen. But in reality, we spend little time in the room at WDW. Now on our ski trips, I enjoy cooking after a long day outside when we're relaxing at night. But at Disney, we feel like we're missing something if we're in the room too much! I'm sure it's different for others, but that's what we do. FWIW, I think that (might) change with BLT. We can literally WALK back to our room rather quickly to grab that pizza and WALK back! :goodvibes We'll see.

I am a fan of cooking - even on vacation - which I know makes me crazy!!!:joker: We always do breakfast in the room - cereal, poptarts, bagels, yogurt, fruit. We usually do about 4 meals out on a 7 day trip and prefer late breakfast or early lunch times. We are early people as DD4 is usually up at 5:30am. So we go to the parks early and will often stay until about 4 or so. Then dinner in the room. For dinner we do have a crockpot in our OL. Dinners: spaghetti, meatloaf, grilled or baked chicken, tacos, sloppy joes, pork tenderloin or roast. Sides: tater tots(DHs favorite), butter noodles, mashed potatoes, Lipton/Knorr sides, mac & cheese. If we eat lunch in we do leftovers, hotdogs, hamburgers or PB&J sandwiches, we have done cold cuts but aren't always a fan of the brands availiable. We always use Garden Grocer - even with a rental car - I love to cook but shopping at a strange grocery store to find what I want - is NOT my idea of fun!!! For our family of 4 (usually for 7 days) we generally spend $150!!! That's like one TS!!!!
