Ok I know this is kind of a crazy question. My DH, mom, brother and I will be traveling with my son and nephew. Both of them are under 2. I am just curious what kind of ID the 2 children will need. They will both be sitting on our laps and not have their own ticket. I do not want to get to to the airport and not have what I need. Thank You for any help.

A birth certificate. Some airlines will question the age of a child and if you can not provide proof of their age you may be forced to purchase a ticket for the child.

Generally speaking children under 18 don't need ID to fly - the exception is lap babies.

Most airlines require proof of age so you should have at least a birth certificate for each of the babies flying without a seat.

FWIW SWA always requires a BC to prove the child is eligible to fly without a ticket, other airlines seem to check when a child looks closer to 2.

As mentioned a birth certificate is needed. My DD(s) have both traveled with lapbabies and have always been asked for it. My one DD has a passport for her baby, so used that instead.
