What kind of gas milage do you REALLY get on your conversion van or Suburban?

We have a 99 Suburban. Driving around town, soccer van, about 12 mpg on a good day. Last May we got a 2005 Honda Odyssey. About 17 on a bad day and up to 24 on highway. I loved my Suburban but would not go back for full time driving. We are keeping it because it needs to pull our boat sometimes. The Odyssey has comparable back storage space to the Suburban. P.S. We have 4 kids and I love to have the extra seat in between kids.

Thanks for all of the replies. There is so much to think about! It is mind boggling! Does anyone remember the good ole' days when you bought a car because you liked it and did not even consider gas milage? :confused3

We have a 2005 Suburban and it averages about 13.5 mpg for every day driving, when we drove to WDW last fall it was about 17 mpg. It is painful to fill up, but we have 5 kids (4 of whom are still in car seats), so there were not very many options! I'm dreaming of the days when I can drive a Volkswagen! :)

I have a Toyota Sequoia and love it. I had a 2003 Suburban and got
14-15 mpg. When I traded to my Sequoia I now get 18.5-19.5 mpg. That is highway and city combined. However, I drive much more in the city than I do on the highway, about 75% city driving. It's still expensive to fill up, about $67 where I live but well worth it. I would really recommend taking a look @ one. They are a little more $ at the dealer but with the savings in gas and repairs it really evens out. ;)

We have a 1997 Yukon which is thankfully paid off....makes it a little easier to forgive the 11 mpg and the budget crushing fill-ups of about $70/week with our conservative driving which is mostly highway miles. Mostly, we opt to drive our older minivan which gets 33 mpg on highway so it helps balance things out overall in a financial sense.
