What kind of Digital Camera do you have?

I'm going to buy one within the next week or two and I would appreciate any honest input you can give me on the type of camera you own and if you are satisfied with it or dislike it for whatever reason. I'm looking at Digital Cameras that are under $300. I have narrowed my search down to a couple of cameras but I'm curious about what you all have to say.
thanks,:)

I have a Sony Cybershot 3.2 and I love it! It takes nice pictures and isn't too expensive. :D

We have a Kodak DX6490. IT is a 4 megapixel. Zoom is about 38-380 I believe.

The one thing that I really liked about it over the others is the LARGE LCD. I sometiems have problems seeing things, so the bigger the better for me. I think the LCD is 2" where others are smaller.

Bought ours at Wally as we get a discount for about $380, but saw it at Sams with the dock for $412. (Ours didnt come with dock)

Hope this helps.

For vacations I have a canon SD110 digital Elph. It's about $250.00 to $299.00 at the moment in the shops. It's a brilliant camera, small, and easy to use.
I also have a canon rebel that I use for my work,, it's too expensive to worry about traveling with,, but it's a great camera too.

Fuji FinePix 2650 (equivalent of the A series one). It's okay but I'd like to upgrade in the near future. The one thing I don't like about it is the xd pic card.

My next upgrade will be a canon powershot 5mp or better. (someday)

My dream dig-cam is the canon rebel. :)

And on top of that, I'd like to have the Sony underwater digital.

I have a Sony DSC P72 and a Sony F717. The P72 is small, so that's my "on the go" camera. For around the house & special events, I use the F717.

In april I was looking for a camera and bought the sony cybershot 5.0 mega pixel. I kept if for two weeks and returned it for the Kodak DX 6490. I absolutely love, love, love that camera! It has a lot of manual settings (or auto if you'd rather) and I've been able to get good action shots as well as good shots in low lighting. It did cost me more than your range though. I bought it at best buy for $500. That included the dock (not necessary at all and not something I particularly care about having, btw) and a four year service agreement. Without dock and service agreement it's much closer to your price range.

BTW, I thought the sony cybershot was an excellent camera I just realized after I purchased it that I was looking for something with more manual options. The 5.0 cost me about $380 with a service agreement.

I'll probably end up buying the camera online and the lowest prices I can find by far online are on "electricsam.com". Has anybody ever heard of them or done business with them? I did see that this place did have mostly favorable customer reviews but you never know. Here's a link to their website in case you want to compare prices yourself. I don't think they have every camera made but what they do have looks pretty enticing.
Here's the link: (oh by the way one of the cameras I'm thinking about is the canon powershot A80)

(I hope the link works for you)

I have the Minolta Dimage Z1. It's a 3.2 MP with a 10x optical zoom. The only complaint is the lack of image stabilization at the longer zooms. A tripod is definitely needed for those shots.

I posted a digital camera thread recently:

We're looking at them. So far we know we're NOT getting the Sony Cybershot, based on bad reviews on Amazon, and also the Canon ones with the aluminum bodies as they have been known to hold condensation and break down.

We have a Kodak one right now and have had it for almost 3 years with no complaints. Not sure if we'll get another Kodak or what...The search (and research!) continues....... lol

Kodak Easyshare DX6340, 3.1 Megapixels.
Great Pictures, Easy software, fantastic little printer. Simple enough for even ME to use!

Hi!
I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix 3200. It is small and very easy to use. The July issue of PCWorld rates it as a Best Buy. You should be able to get one for $220-250.

i am so happy hear that most people so far have the same kodak camera that we are looking to buy!! and it's great that everyone seems HAPPY with the camera!!

we have an old yucky digital camera that has 1.3 megapixels. how sad is that? lol...i wouldn't recommend it to anyone...

Canon G4 something-called the G5 now, I think.

I looked at several Canon models. We have been VERY pleased with all of our Canon products!

I have an Olympus Camedia and I LOVE it! Bought it on eBay after many questions here on the DIS and it's the sole reason I sell so well on eBay now! Not bad for a less than $100 investment!

We have a Nikon Coolpix 3500. It is small and compact and has a rotating head so you can get some difficult shots. The only thing I wish it had would be a regular looking lens for when it is sunny outside. If it really sunny, you can' t see the LCD screen well, and I have to take a guess that the picture is centered. It is a 3.2 megapixel with a 3x optical zoom. It does take great pictures and very easy to use.

We just ordered a camera for MIL for her trip to Sweden this summer. I found a Canon Powershot S-30 on ritzcamera.com. It is a 3.2 megapixel with 3x optical zoom and just recently, it was only $229 on their website. The camera was easy to use and takes great pictures. This camera has that lens you can look in when it is sunny and I like the feel of this camera in my hand better than my own.

Can I ask why you don't like the xd card? I have a Fuji too, and like the cards, cuz I can take so many with me.

Thanks!

I like the quality of the xd cards. What I don't like is the incompatibility with other electronics.

With other types of media (SD, MMC, CF etc) you can interchange them with other products (mp3 player, digital camcorder, etc). With xd, being that it's proprietary to Fuji and Olympus, the only one you can use it for is in their cameras.

That said, if I'm going to have many devices, I'd like to be able to interchange the memory cards within them.

Since they're still new-ish on the market, there aren't a lot of products geared for xd yet. Even the card readers, I've only found 1 that uses xd for under $25. The multi-card readers typically don't have xd in the line-up.

That's my only hang-up with them. Otherwise, they're pretty good.
