Who knew that what is common breakfast fare around these parts is even something to debate or discuss elsewhere. How do you want your eggs is as normal a question was how do you want your steak.
I'm 55 and honestly am shocked that this is not normal all over. The choice that is

Pretty normal here in the Mid-Atlantic too. While I don't care for runny eggs others in my family do like them

We went to a Tudor's Biscuit World while visiting West Virginia once. All the giant pictures on the walls showed sunny side up eggs in their dishes. So naturally when asked I ordered sunny side up. They explained that they don't serve them that way. What the heck? Did the previous chef steal the recipe or something? Were they afraid they would be inundated by the rich and elite?

Haha! I'm with you, actually. I am a medium-rare man, myself. I knew trying to drag a well-done person all the way to medium-rare was going to be too much of a system shock. She can't stand medium-well or well-done now, and it makes me happy to see some juice coming from her cut steak.

Many years back, when I was doing the Disney College Program, I was having dinner with 3 friends at Cinderella's Royal Table. All 4 of us ordered the prime rib. I ordered mine medium rare. The other three looked at me so disgusted and ordered theirs well done. I was able to convince one of them to try my steak and he absolutely loved it. He recently told me that he only ever orders medium rare now. The other two absolutely refused to try my steak and called me a vampire. Oh well. They don't know the awesome tastiness that they missed out on.
