What is your "walkaround" lens

You got one strong neck there, I'm old and getting worn out, my back wouldn't stand up to that punishment for more than an hour before I would be done.

well the A700 will most often be in my hands, with my neck just supporting the 7D and the 80-200, so basically at any given time only one camera will be hanging on my neck. I've done it often with the 7D with lens and the 80-200 on the lens cradle, the new body won't add that much mor weight at least until I get the vertical grip...LOL

I also always have my flash on my main body...
you get used to it, at times holding a camera in each hand while walking to give your neck a break..

My walkaround is the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 that's glued to my Canon 40D..LOL.
I've heard good things about the Sigma 17-200 OS and am considering that one as well.

Typically my Pentax DA 18-55mm kit lens, but if I now that zooming/wide angle will not be required, I will use the FA 50mm f/1.4 b/c it is sharper.

Sony A100 I use a Tamron 28-75 F2.8 and on my Olympus I use 40-150 kit lens the most.

On my Nikon D80, I generally use my Nikon 18-200mm , but before I upgraded to that lens, I had used the Nikon 18-135. Both have produced great results. When I just had the D50, I used the Nikon 18-70.

When at Animal Kingdom, I do also use my NIKON 80-200 F2.8 D AF LENS, but that is a lot to lug around all day.

At night I have also used my Nikon 50MM 1.8 lens.

I found that the versatility of the 18-200 and 18-135 was very useful.

Wow! I guess I'm the only prime lense user. I keep the 50mm 1.4 on nearly all the time. I've got a great pair of zooms that I use for close-ups.

Lately it has been either the 17-55/2.8 or the 70-200/2.8- but really it could be anything depending on where I may be walking around.

Well, I used to almost always use my 18-200. But, now I have a couple new lenses, so I tend to change lenses a lot more. For outdoor events, I still use my 18-200. For indoor or low light, I use one of my two 2.8 lenses depending on how much zoom I want. I probably don't use my prime lenses as much as I should. I just prefer the flexibility of a zoom lens.

used to be the 28-75 f2.8 but recently it has been the 43mm Ltd f1.9 so your not the only prime user

Just FYI, I have the Sigma 18-200 OS and it has been giving me trouble focusing with my 40D. Never had that issue on XT. I noticed it last month in WDW but haven't had time to investigate and do more tests.

Gokenin, you picked up one of the Limited pancake lenses? Very cool.

Last WDW trip, I switched constantly but I'd say that the closest thing to a walkaround was my Pentax 31mm F1.8. Wide enough to capture most situations, fast enough for just about anything, and an amazing lens in general. The 10-17mm fisheye wasn't far behind it in terms of "walk-around" though. And the 50-135mm F2.8 was on an awful lot - still wide enough for many situations (as much as a 50mm prime) while giving you extra reach.

If I'm just shooting casually around town, it's usually the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8, though if my company ever catching up on the profit sharing that should be coming to us, I'll sell it and get a Pentax 16-50mm F2.8. I really missed the extra width that you lose starting at 28mm at WDW a few times, especially for things like character dinners where 28mm isn't even close to wide enough. This past trip, I used the kit 18-55mm off my wife's DSLR but next time I'll have the faster, watersealed lens and an extra 2mm of reach too.

Been debating this same issue. Have the 18-55 kit lens (Canon Xsi) and can't decide between the Sigma 18-200 or the Canon 55-250. With the 55-250 I would have to change lenses to get the wide angle where with the 18-200 I would have a lot more latitude and could actually use it as a "walk around" lens.

Looked at the Tamron 18-250 and it is a possibility also.

Would seem that in places like WDW or even some city walks you might not want to be changing lenses back and forth throughout the day and the 18-200 might be more "useable" in a lot of instance.

My walkaround lens is either the Sigma 18-200mm OS or the Canon 24-105mm L. In the latter case, I always carry around an IXUS 860IS, just for that bit of width that I don't get with 24mm on a 1.6 crop body.

I find the 18-200mm pretty reliable for focusing, but there's just a ... something ... that makes its images not as nice as the 24-105mm. I'm having a hard time pinpointing it. I think it's something to do with the line between the subject and the background - at that boundary the transition from being in-focus to out-of-focus just doesn't quite work...

But for so many occasions the 18-200mm is the ideal lens; it's got the range, you're only carrying one lens and you're not messing around changing lenses when the action is happening.

Tamron 18-250 F/3.5-6.3 for my Pentax K100 (although my 50mm is also always with me on vacation, and sometimes my 10-17 fisheye).

I've been thinking about getting the Tamron 28-75 F/2.8, it's on my wishlist anyway!!

It's a 350D (Rebel XT). Which matches up with your observations.

I previously had the older, non-OS version of this lens and truly hated it - couldn't ever get a shot in sharp focus!

I have both the 43 and the 70 limited pancake lenses and was toying with the idea of doing a prime only kit for November with the Fa20,Fa43 and Da70 with a 1.4 teleconverter as well
