What is your thoughts on Wispering Canyon

I cant' recall what day we actually went to the WCC but it was sometime between November 6-12. We got seated before our 6:30 pm reservation, which was nice. We thought that the food was good but the atmosphere was DEFINITELY LOUD and OVERBEARING for our family. Our service started off quickly, which was nice but quickly slowed down, especially to a COMPLETE hault directly before dessert. This was rather disappointing since by this time our 3 1/2 year old HAD IT with the "ketchup" and "howdy partner." We probably wouldn't go there again to eat, even though we rent a car, so it really isn't out of our way. To end the evening, our server gave us three options to leaving the tip, "Pay by cash, pay by credit card, or the third, which he wasn't going to offer to us." My husband and I found it a bit offensive and rather upfront. I hope that my comments help you make a decision. I would still try it and make up my own mind if I was you!!!!!!

We ate there a few weeks ago and really liked it. We had an ADR right at 5 which was when they opened for dinner so it was a little slow getting everyone seated and the servers to their tables, but after that, it was a fun atmosphere and the food was good. We got seconds on a few things and the desserts were yummy!

We went there for lunch on November 17th and thought it was just as good as it was the other 2 times we have been there. The baked beans that come with the skillet are yummy. The only meat that I eat is chicken, but DH said the ribs and sausage were really good. I didn't love the seasoning on the chicken, but pull the skin off and it was very good. I'm sure we'll be back within the next 2 trips.
If you want a great server, ask for Wendy. She embraces the character 100% and she is very attentive as well. We didn't get her this trip, but watched her interact with her tables and she was spot on. Hope you enjoy your meal. (Last year we went on my husband's birthday and he had to ride a hobby horse around the dining room singing "happy birthday to me" the whole time. Poor thing!!)

This was one we were very excited about before our trip. Sorry to say, we were disappointed. It was a fun environment though! It was nice and loud so no one could hear my 2 year old having a fit :thumbsup2 . Our server was great (my husband asked for a refill, so he bought him the biggest glass we had ever seen and when he dropped his fork, he bought him one that looked like it should have been hanging on the wall). The food though just wasn't all that. The kids didn't really like (except the milkshakes!) it. The skillet was okay, but I think I ate a 1/4 of it. The cornbread was great!

I am glad we tried it, but I don't think we will return :sad2:

We went in Janaury earlier this year for dinner and we loved it. More so for the atmosphere than the food. The food was good, but we went for our first time when it was my DS 8th birthday. They really went out of their way to make everyone know that it was his birthday and he loved it so much. We went there to have fun and we had fun. The food was your typical BBQ food. We enjoyed and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. :goodvibes

we went last year and the food was fine, nothing special but good gut-busting American food. We would go again but it is not in our top ten. We didn't get a funloving server so don't rely on it or you will be disappointed.

I think you will enjoy it as long as you go with a realistic view.

This! Although I would change "good" to "adequate". We've never had a fun server despite eating there many times now. My kids still like it but I'd be happy if I never had to go back. That said, I'll be there in January at my son's request. Hoping we finally get a server who will "play" with him.

We like it very much. We make it a must on every trip. We also like the lobby of WL:goodvibes :goodvibes

We went there this past Sept. and I have to say, when planning our next trip in August of 09 I asked the family , which places do you want to eat at and it was unanimous that we return to WCC. We had so much fun. It is definitely, noisy, it is definitely, rowdy , it is definitely down home cooking and we definitely loved all those things. Your kids will love it! We were there last time for my bday and this trip I will make sure to make the ADR for my husbands bday. I hope they embarass him like crazy! But that's the type of atmosphere we like, not everyone enjoys noisy , rowdy dinners but if you have kids those are the only dinners you know.:lmao: Go....enjoy.....make it a memory.:goodvibes

My husband helped pick several of our ADR and his first selection was for WCC.
I'm having some second thoughts about this one. So I've read from the boards that it's a fun dining environment if you have a good server that really gets into the action but how's the food?

Interesting the way you pose this question. It illustrates exactly the "problem" with this restaurant from my perspective. (Think curmudgeon, but one that loves Disney.)

If people go for the antics and don't pay that much attention to the actual quality of the food, then they are usually satisfied. But when the antics fail, there's no way the food is going to compensate. Those that go for the food are likely to be annoyed by the antics and disappointed in the food too.

IMHO, this place needs to better understand its role in the show and needs to better communicate its story to potential guests.

We ate there 2 years ago and I was so excited from the reviews. Well, I hate to tell you for us it was not good. Maybe it depends on what cast you have or your server, but for us it was a let down. As far as food, it was ok. We don't go to Disney for the food. It was equal to would expect from your local chain restaurant.

The food is passable to us at this point, was a bit better in the past. We're not into the loud "experience" - type of dining, especially as we now must go in the dog days of summer heat. Since it's your DH's #1 pick, I'd say you're pretty much required to give it a go. I wouldn't say the food is bad, just not remarkable. I'd also bet if you're willing to be fun, your server will feed off that energy & you'll have a great time.

We went last week for the first time and we really liked it. We sat over to the side, overlooking the lobby (so we weren't really in the "noisy" part of the restaurant). My kids LOVED it and begged me to go back!

It was a busy Saturday night....the food was good, timely, and our server was great. She wasn't "over the top" with antics, but just "right". We stayed at the Lodge for 8 days and wanted to try it again for breakfast, but the timing never worked out. There's alot of food those skillets, so come hungry! We had to take our dessert back to our room!

I think the Lodge is beautiful, and if you have never seen it, it would be worth the ride over (take the boat from MK...it's relaxing) to have dinner and see the Lodge.

Ate there for the first time in October and had a good time as far as the antics go. My dh and 2 ds ate the skillet and enjoyed it. I didn't want that much food (and we were paying, no DDP) and ordered the chicken plate from the menu instead. Let me tell you, it was the best meal I ate all week. Half a chicken, baked perfectly, with great seasonings. I took home leftovers and our server even threw a bit of the skillet leftovers in (which was nice, I don't think they are supposed to do that). Will definitely eat here again.

The biggest plus overall: doing a sit-down restaurant with our 1 year old and it didn't matter if he screeched a bit, things were definitely loud enough that no one noticed.

Dude, that was profound. :thumbsup2

Just went 12/6, got an adr thanks to a diser posting on the Dec. Adr thread who cancelled hers. The place was crowded, not one open table. Our server was not really into the action but the one next to us was so it was fun to hear her all the time.

The noise level is loud, Birthdays and anniversarys were acknowledged. As well as the honeymoon couple. We saw a huge cake come by. There were 2 pony races when we were there and it was fun to watch the kids and wave your napkins.

If you are sitting in the other room, its not as fun and you tend to loose the action and atmosphere.

My dh got some food poisioning from his meal. It was o.k. to try it again but we wont be back for a long time. It was also a hassle to get there for us. We had to take a bus from the Yacht Club to the MK, then the boat from Mk to the WL, so that was a huge chunk of time for us.

Ds loved the bottomless milkshakes, I didnt care for the salad, but loved the pulled pork, they did make fries for ds instead of mashed potatoes. The milkshakes of the day were bubble gum and cotton candy, eww. Talk about a sugar high!!

It's entertaining. Either you'll have a fun server or someone close will. We like it because the kids can be louder than normal and it's o.k. because the whole place is louder than normal.

The breakfast is better than lunch or dinner, but all is well. My pops and I liked the ribs. Very tender and mouth watering! I also recommend the tall beer! It TOTALLY hit the spot!!

I havent eaten there since 1998 and the food was excellent. I havent been back since I usually like trying different places as I am doing this month. The ribs were delicious, it is alot of fun for a kid, I bet you are going to enjoy it

we ate at wcc our last trip and so since my bf is going along this time, i picked this place again. we don't have any kids going along this time but he pretty much acts like a kid so i think he will enjoy the antics and i let him look over the menus of different places, and he liked this one...plus its at the WL which is beautiful this time of year...i'm looking forward to this meal, hopefully we will have a good server.

Is the beer served at WCC itself? What kind of beer was it and do you remember the cost? My DH only drinks on vacation and then not a lot, but he might enjoy this.
