What is your Shopping Weakness?

Salsa. Seriously, we tend to pick up a new brand/flavor of salsa almost every time we go grocery shopping. At least it is something we can consume.

books and coffee - to a lesser extent craft items.

used to spend too much on magazines, but received offers for cheap subscriptions so now I get them in the mail.:)

:wizard:

What do you tend to buy most often when you're out shopping?

Purses? Shoes? Chocolate? What????

For me, it's magazines. I hadn't gone shopping, to just browse around, in months. I ended up with $28 in magazines. I just can't resist them. They are my ultimate weakness.

Stuff for my girls....sometimes I just cant help it. They look so cute in everything!

This IS a great thread!!! I love it!!! :thumbsup2

Ok for me it is MAGAZINES also BUT only subscription...if you look at the store price as vs getting a subscription = big savings. Borders rewards always emails coupons for 50% any mag and then I will buy one off the shelf....like REAL SIMPLE....love that mag but it is pricey even the subscription price.

FLIP FLOPS....I live in the OC/SoCal....we wear them ALL YEAR LONG!!! I have about 40 pairs. Easily. Love them all. Just got the NIKE ones Kate Gosselin wore all summer....they were $25.00 a pair On Sale at Sports Authority for $9.00!!! WooHoo!!!

I love everything at KOHL's!!!

WATCHES!!! I have at least 30 watches. Its a pain getting new batteries for them all, can get pricey. But I do wear them all (not at the same time.) :lmao: I have summer watches and all year round watches!!!

And lastly as someone else said....TEA....I buy every kind of tea imaginable. I was in London a few years ago and HAD TO BUY TEA THERE and bring it home!!! My Mom is a tea lover as well, so we both experiment with different tea's and tell each other what ones we love and what ones we hate!!!

That doesn't sound silly at all - I always re-read my books. And some are on an annual rotation. I very rarely give books away, unless I really know I will never read it again.

Glad to see that I'm not alone.:thumbsup2

My weakness has to do with anything creative. Don't let me near a Michaels, JoAnns or a home decor store. Yesterday, I went to Michaels to kill some time prior to a meeting. I spent $187. Crazy!

I love Michaels too. May I ask what you bought so I can live vicariously through you?:thumbsup2

Office supplies?!?! You girls have to got to be kidding!

Purses, books, shoes, clothes, make-up--those I can understand wanting to buy. But folders and pens? I'm sorry, but I don't get it! :upsidedow

It's the colors. I avoid office stores, too, thanks to my obsession with office supplies. The pretty colors in the post-its, and pens, and markers, and highlighters, and organizers... it's too much for me. I have to have it.

Well, Aimeedyan, a lot of posters have said they love shopping for office supplies, so I guess I'm the weird one. It seems too much like "work" for me to enjoy it.

As I said upthread, my obsession is shoes. They appeal to all my senses. I love to look at them, feel them, and smell them. Ahh...there's nothing like the scent of real leather.

Sniffing highlighting pens doesn't have the same appeal by far.

Janice, to some people sniffing highlighters has a lot of appeal...not me, though. I will say the colors in pens tempt me and when I have to buy pens, I buy colorful ones.

I can get the office supplies, it's something about a new, fresh, unwritten in notebook and freshly sharpened pencils or a fresh marker and whiteboard.

My weakness is buying stuff for my new house. The problem is, we've lived here almost three years and I have now completely filled/decorated it with all new furniture and decor. It's now so full, the only way I can bring something new in is to get rid of something I already have. Yesterday a friend tried to give me a Raku container he had made. I literally loved it. I kept picking it up, opening the lid, checking it out and admiring it. But I was so proud of myself, because when I left, I left empty handed. :goodvibes It's great to finally be at the point in my life that I don't need anything. :thumbsup2 But trying to overcome that desire to shop for stuff I don't need is really tough.

Food and cookbooks! I love new things at the grocery store and new things on menus! When I see something new advertised, sometimes I will stop in just to try the new item!

I was so excited that my local grocery store was getting Boars Head, the deli girls actually would give me a count down of how long until the boars head was coming. When it actually got there, I bought 12 of their items on my first trip!

Children's Clothes, Books, Office Supplies and Food.

I roate my obsessions. The last 6 months I put myself on a very tight budget while we were getting ready to buy the house. Now we have little money for extra's while we get Must Haves for the new house so I am safe now.

I used to be a HUGE Sucker for Gymboree kids clothes. Goodness help me when they do the Gymbucks. Luckily I have learned that if I just stay away from the store and website I am fine. When I lived in Florida my friend there was so much worse than I was that it was horrible when we went shopping together. I would get DS sensible pieces that matched and sometimes needed a whole outfit because it was so cute ... she was obsessed and would get ALL the pieces down to the underwear (for a 2 year old that isn't potty trained yet!)

I always buy a book in BJ's, Target etc but I haven't been in a reading mood in the last month or so which is good. Cuts back.

Now I am on a project kick. I have been decorating DS's room in the new house and buy just about everything I see with a Cars theme on it for the room. Coming along well if I do say so myself. Now I am getting ready to move onto the Master and the Nursery.

I forgot children's clothes. I have gone overboard. I tell myself I am only buying things to fill in what they need, but if I find a great deal it's hard to pass up!

I rotate my buying obsessions too. I'm trying to squash all of it. It has to be a fabulous sale in order for me to give in now. That helps. :) Donations has been my big project lately. I'm trying to stick to it.

Shoes and candles -- have way too many of both, but that doesn't stop me from buying even more! :rolleyes1

For those of you who like to own your books, but have trouble getting rid of them when done, you might consider: www.paperbackswap.com . Got this tip from another Diser and I'm hooked (thank you very much!!) I have tons of new books already and have cleared a whole shelf of books I was done with. If you have kids who read....oh the possibilities.

My shopping weakness - Books and music. Concert tickets! I love attending concerts, but the strangest thing is I love buying the tickets. Trying to score good seats along with potentially thousands of others....it's a rush! (How is THAT for strange???) This is an expensive pastime, however, I don't recommend it.

More normal addicton - purses and bags. Every occasion demands a specific bag, you know. Walking around a city requires an entirely different bag than walking around a mall. Theme park totes differ from beach bags.

My DH complained about my love of bags and I told him that he should have just married a man then!

What a great thread! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that has certain shopping obsessions!

My biggest one would be scrapbooking supplies. I would die a happy woman if one day I could walk into an Archivers and say, "I'll take five of everything." :lmao:

Another big one for me is electronic gadgets. Gotta have the latest, greatest... whatever. Off the top of my head, we have a handful of ipods that we don't use anymore, my iphone 3gs, DH's iphone 2g that we will upgrade in January, the brand new Cricut Gypsy, three photo printers (one is wide format!), two photo scanners... five computers for three people... at least four or five cameras... I have a Wii, and DS has a PS2, an xbox, a PSP, and a DS. He's about to get an ipod touch for his birthday. it goes on and on... :lovestruc

Other than that, several obsessions have come and gone... and come back again... ;) I suppose my most recent one would be iphone apps, music, and movies/tv shows. :yay:

Oh, and I love office supplies too, particularly printer ink and high quality photo paper. Apparently, I have a fear of running out. :rotfl:

Hmm..if you want to put those i-pods to use :rolleyes1

Seriously though, for me it's shoes..though I'm on a major budget, so it doesn't happen too often, and when it does it's under $20..lolol..I know, I know. I also read constantly, but do the library for that. I'm also another that likes looking for new/different things in the grocery, I don't mind splurging there as much..we have to eat

I'm not a big shopper, but my weakness would be yarn. I started knitting about 2 years ago. I started knitting with Walmart acrylic (about $2 a for 300 yards). Now, I'll easily spend $25 on 400 yards of superwashed wool sockyarn (that's enough for one pair of socks).

I love, love, love the beautiful colors, rich texture, soft squishiness of yarn!
