What is your proximity to WDW?

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here and on the fence about whether or not to buy a DVC timeshare.

My question is do most DVC owners live close to WDW?

We are a family of four and live in Southern California about 20 minutes from Disneyland. We are annual pass holders and visit DL quite frequently. However, I don't know if we'll be able to fly cross country to Orlando every year in order to make our DVC purchase worth it.

If we lived within driving distance there wouldn't be a problem. (or at least that's what DH says, LOL)

Thank you!

I live in Socal also (1.5 hr from DL) we bought in June at AKV and will bank/barrow to go every other year. Any extra points we build up will be rented to help pay the MF's or a weekend at the GC.

Savannah Ga here. 5 hour drive to WDW. 45 minutes to HHI Disney. We drive down frequently.

We're about as far away in the contiguous U.S as you can be from WDW...the Seattle area. Even so, we haven't regretted becoming DVC members. :)

We are in the process of purchasing, but we live in Pa (right on the border of MD). We plan to drive down most of the time. My father lives in SC so we can always tie in the trip!

We also live in Washington state. We visit Disneyland at least 1-2 per year and will be going to WDW in October. We have APs at Disneyland and purchased them for WDW as well. DVC was a no-brainer for us because we vacation at Disney parks at least 1-2 per year and love staying on property!

We live in Northern California and purchased SSR in Jan. We are planning a trip to WDW in Jan (1st time at WDW) and a cruise in Oct 09. My husband has lots of frequent flyer miles right now due to his current job, so we plan to do east coast trips now, thinking that in the future we may not have that cost covered and will concentrate on West Coast trips (DL, Hawaii...), expecially once the DVC resorts open in those locations...

We are in southern New England - Rhode Island - which is a 2 & 1/2 hour flight to Orlando. I'm envious of those who are a short (less than 6 hrs) drive away.

We are about an 8 and a half hour flight away in the UK. So travelling takes a whole day to get to WDW and a day and a bit on the overnight flight home.

The travelling doesn't bother us and at the moment manage a visit about every 9 months :)

Chicago here. There are Cal and other west coast owners (and from foreign nations) but the distance is definitely an issue. My sense is that vast majority of owners are from eastern half of country and the main reason is the one you mention.

However, be aware of an upcoming change. A new DVC will be opening at Disneyland, probably late next year; it is part of the Grand Californian addition under construction now. Moreover, another DVC will be opening Hawaii in 2010 or 2011. In other words, you might be a candidate for purchasing at Grand Californian.

Why not buy a contract at the GCV at Disneyland? Then you could use them for your DL stays and when you make it to WDW.

NYC here. We loved the idea that there are loads of places we can use it though we will primarily use it for Disney properties

We live in the Chicago area.

Wasn't there stats in the latest Disney Files magazine that showed that the greatest concentrations of DVC members were in the Northeast and Midwest regions?

We currently live in Jacksonville (2 hours away), however we'll be moving to the DC area next year. I'm so happy we own DVC so I don't have to give up Disney, even though we'll be farther away.

We live in central NC, about 10.5 hours away. We have always driven, so thankfully the airlines' recent antics haven't impact our vacation habits.

I live outside DC; it is a 13 to 14 hour trip depending on road construction, how fast I drive, and the number of pit stops I take. I go to WDW 3 or 4 times a year mostly because of the variety of activities in the area and the fact that when I've taken vacations near home, I have gotten called in to work whereas Florida is so far away I never get a call from work.

Houston area. Approx. - 17 hour drive (includes time change). We go on average about once every 1 to 1 1/2 years. Would like to get more points to go every 9 months to a year. Nothing like adding an extra trip to the World.:)
