What is your least favorite DVC resort and why?

I don't want to derail this thread too much, but I only think that's true to a certain degree. Barring other outside influences, demand RIGHT AT seven months is unlikely to change drastically. The changes will be most noticable as one gets closer to check-in date.
But here's what will happen, IMO. Since BCV owners will know there will be extra competition starting at the 7 month window, more and more of them will book during the home resort priority window. Besides, I'd guess that BCV and VWL are on average more than 75% booked when the 7 month window opens up NOW. But we shall see. I agree the wait list will become more important and less likely to be successful

You're welcome to use any available. Remember that SSR and OKW are essentially the only onsite options with GV so the reverse thinking will be true for those unit types.

Dean, not to argue with you...because you know MUCH more of what you are talking about than I do. But, I have a different take. I think the waitlist might become MUCH more successful for those people who get on right at 7 months than it currently is.

I agree that the getting a room at 7 months (esp at BCV) is going to become even harder. Why? Well, it is a very tiny, very popular resort...and, I have to think that all of the people who are buying BCV resale at $80 per point (when they can get a MUCH better deal at SSR) are doing so in anticipation of how difficult it will be to get in there once SSR is completed, and are REALLY wanting to stay there. I think those people, plus any owners who have experienced problems in the past getting rooms, will be calling before the 7 month window and making ressies...even if their plans may not be "firmed up" or "subject to change". That's why I think we may see more waitlist success stories rather than fewer of them.

And, to anyone who "is not crazy" about SSR (I count myself in this category just because of what I know of the location and style of the resort...I might change my mind when I go see it)...once it gets completed, if you ever need to book a trip 3-4 months out...you might find that is your only choice....so, you might be staying there, "or" using your NEW AP DISCOUNT to get smokin' deals at other WDW resorts!!!!!! :hyper: (Sorry, just had to throw that in!!! ::yes:: )

I just got "invited" to use MY points to treat friends to a vacation in April (yes, they are VERY good friends who literally "offered" for me to treat them ;) ). We tried to make ressies, and of course BCV and BWV were full...shocker!!! VWL had VERY limited availability, and the CM had to call the resort directly to get access to the rooms. OKW and SSR both had "plenty" of availability (at least that is what the CM said). I felt lucky to get VWL...and we're 4.5 months out!!!

Although SSR will probably always be my last choice (I'm sure there are a LOT of SSR owners who are happy to hear that), I have a feeling that most DVC owners will find themselves there at SOME point in the future. With 828 units, it is simply going to be the "mothership" of DVC!!!

And, I REALLY am enjoying this thread!!! I'm not sure why people get upset that others don't like their resort. As a BWV owner who bought for the standard view, and a VWL owner that bought for Christmas time....I "cheer" everytime someone says they don't like those resorts..woohoo!!! That leaves more room for me!!!

Dean...what do you think of my theory? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

And, EVERYONE....HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!

Not a problem Beca, this is an area where there is no right or wrong answer. I think we're really saying the same type of thing. IMO, more people will have to go on the wait list at 7 months, but certainly some of them will be successful. Otherwise, I think your thoughts essentially mirror mine. But only time will tell.

It's funny, we've been having this discussion on the TUG Marriott BBS about peak time reservations with Maui being the focal point. It is actually much more difficult for Marriott for certain weeks and resorts, much like getting a GV at BWV.

We bought HHI just to get into the system it had the lowest dues and the highest first year point buyback price so we didn't have to pay anything out of pocket hardly to get our downpayment. We prefer BWV for our DVC stays. Our least favourite was VWL and BCV.

First, I'm not picking on crisi - this was just the easiest post to quote this idea from.

But are there really people who dislike a resort so much that, over the next 38 years, they would never ever stay there? We bought into SSR because we like the spread-out, resort feel (if we want a hotel, we go to Las Vegas where they do it right). However, we certainly plan on staying at all the DVC resorts at least once, and probably more, over the next 50 years. I just think that any DVC resort is better than most other lodging; the decor and/or location might not be our favorite, but they're all Disney! I think that tjkraz is right - people are still thinking short term about a long-term contract; how many of you like today what you liked 20 years ago? Plus, I still maintain that the novelty will wear off, and the siren call of variety will be heard thoughout the World.

Regarding least favorites and booking windows, I always wonder how many of the vast unwashed (that is, non-DIS) DVC owners really utilize the 11/7 windows. While our friendly little group of DIS lunatics knows the system inside and out and how to maximize DVC utility, is this typical? We have some acquaintances who own at BWV, and they didn't really know about the 11/7 system; well, they remember it being mentioned, but they've never taken advantage of it. They just call up when they want go to WDW and they take what they can get.

I guess I'd like to know what the occupancy rates are right before the 7 month window opens.

Well, all I know is that I LOVED WDW 20yrs ago, and I still love it today!! With all the money we just spent on DVC...let's hope THAT never changes!!!;)

I really do not think it is possible to know what or if any changes will be affected at 7 months with the sale out of SSR.

There is no way to gage the booking habits of members that do not participate here.

We have several friends with DVC that only go every other year to Disney or even every 3rd year and as Dr. T stated they do not mark their calendars to be sure and book exactly at the 11 month or even 7 month.

Also I am not sure the bookings at this time are that high at BCV at 7 months out as projected by Dean. Certainly at certain times they might be. But I know we have always been able to get in there at 7 months out and even get the elusive 2 bedroom/ 2 queens at 7 month out.

The only category we have ever had any difficulty with at 7 months is BW standard view 2 bedroom.

OKW is tops for me. It's our "home resort". I like the space and the layout. BWV is my least favorite. Something about those LONG hallways. Easy to get lost in. We've stayed at all the resorts, except SSR. We added on points at SSR recently. DH likes the proximity to the Golf Courses. I'm not sure I like the theme. Seems boring to me.
I really don't like the double bathroom door layout of the newer resorts.

How about the reverse, If one ways OKW or SSR, other than a GV, buy at another resort as these resorts will almost always be available at the 7 month window.
