Congress park is my chose especially, when I am going to disney without going to the theme parks. It is relaxing yet exciting, its a short nice walk to DTD. You have all the night events you need ( House of Blues, Movies etc). You have nice restaurants at DTD (have a dvc member discounted lunch instead of dinner). The fitness center is a short walk and is amazing. The pool overlooks DTD. The morning walks around the lake front is simply just great.

You have a nice boatride upsteam to Port Orleans. You can take the bus to magic kingdom and tour all the resorts there (my favorite is Grand Floridian for a disconted member lunch).

For 40 dollars a person per day you can have a great time there.

Note: I am 54 years of age and travel with my wife and we are empty nesters with no grandchildren yet. So my chose is based on that fact.
That is the beauty of a DVC membership there is something for every age group.

We have only stayed in the Springs section. I enjoyed it as it was close to the main building/main pool/etc.

Grandstand, buses and closeness to Main check in building

We have only stayed at SSR once and we stayed in the Grandstand section. Which we loved.

We've stayed at SSR one time in the Paddock section and loved it. Buses were not a problem and the walk to the pool/main building was a nice stroll across the lake! We had originally booked at POFQ and received a free upgrade (not sure how but we were very excited and grateful that this occurred)!!!:yay:

I'm 10 days out from first SSR stay. What great timing to read all these views. Seems like a lot of love for Grandstand overall, so that'll be our request!! I'll let you know how it goes if we get it.

Thanks to all who responded to this awesome thread.

Grandstand. The kids love the pool area, and we like the short walk to the main pool, building, etc. We don't ride the busses, so that has nothing to do with our choice.

I voted Grandstand, then it is Carousel . The reason is DW unfortunately needs to use an ECV to enjoy WDW. These are the first 2 bus stops and this makes it easier for everyone if we get on the bus when it is less crowded. She wants to get on as fast as possible because all of us want to get going quickly. First on and last off.

1. Grandstand (first bus stop, close to Carriage House, and great pool) - 2 stays
2. Congress Park (DTD view, walk to DTD) - 2 stays
3. Springs (Close to Carriage House and buses) - 1 stay
4. Paddock
5. Carousal (too far from everything...bus stop... also the room was very run down. We requested to be moved after the first night - which was done and we were moved to the Springs)

We love :love:SSR!! I just made reservations for a trip in May, 2011, and I asked everyone in the family if they wanted to stay at SSR or waitlist for another resort. They all looked at me like I was nuts:scared1: and said, we have to stay at SSR that is our Disney home...we don't want to stay at another resort, we love SSR.:cloud9:

we have stayed at SSR twice; first time was the Springs and really enjoyed the proximity to the main pool and cafeteria, etc. the only downside was that its the last bus stop and often times the bus was already crowded or too crowded to board.

Our next stay was at the Granstand - this would be out first choice for location; you are the first bus stop; have a nice pool area plus water play area and you are a short walk to the main cafeteria and main pool area.

We are staying at the Treehouse next year so it will be good to compare.

I like the Grandstand for the building closest to the carriage house. I found it quite convenient to every thing. I love Congress park for the DTD views and quick access to DTD.

I've just booked SS for September 2011:yay: It's our first ever stay at a disney hotel in Florida
There's just my husband and myself and we'll hire a car so won't need the buses. If we wanted a quiet studio overlooking one of the quiet waterways, where would be the best place to be?
