What is your favorite room? Leaving concierge... where should we go?

We have really loved our Disney cruises. We have been fortunate to have stayed in the 1 bedroom suites, which was wonderful for the space it provided with napping little ones, which we have always had on our cruises. And it was wonderful for a season... however, I do not feel that the concierge level amenities support the ever increasing price difference that is occurring as we look at future cruises, though. Now that the little ones are getting bigger, we would like to use the money for excursions, instead of on more space in the stateroom. It's time for something new.

So, as we are leaving the concierge level... where should we look for 2A2C? What are some favorite rooms? (Honestly, I feel that ANY room on a Disney Cruise is wonderful... because you are on a Disney Cruise...:) but I would love to know what some favs are!)

Thanks in advance!!!

Well, you're going to get all sorts of answers - from "inside is best, save your money for excursions" to "I wouldn't cruise without a verandah".

My personal favorite - Oceanview rooms on deck 2.

I like the sideways inside rooms on the Classic ships but if your kids are still napping you might opt for a non-concierge verandah. On our cruise in Nov we will be with DD and SIL and 2 DGD and we got 2 sideways inside rooms cause that's what fit our budget. But we can always let Pops take a nap at the same time as DGD1.5 while the rest of us play.

LOL! So true! But I am open to new ideas... something to keep the cruise junkie in me happy, the excursion loving DH happy, and also keep my retirement savings happy so we can keep on cruising for many years! :)

You don't say how old your kids are, but there's nothing stopping you from having space and a balcony. Consider 2 connected balcony rooms. It's still cheaper than concierge and if someone wants to nap, you can close the door. Oh, and you get the two sets of split bathrooms.

My favorite are the 'secret' Navigator verandahs on the classic chips, but you would need two rooms as they only sleep three.

So far we have only stayed verandah and love it. We definitely get use out of it. However, I would not be against an Oceanview with a porthole or two to look out of. Those seats look comfortable and cozy for reading and curling up to stargaze.

I know many folks swear by inside cabins, but I tend to feel a little closed in and uncomfortable in those. We once did a cabin crawl to see other cabins, and I was not able to stay in the inside cabin for very long. Even with the nice virtual porthole. On the plus side, I bet they would be great for sleeping in and really dark for naps for all ages in your party. :)

We loved room 6666 on Dream. It has a BIG porthole, and if I recall correctly it had a pullout sofa and a murphy bed. And people give you the funniest looks when you say your room number.

If you like space, the category 8A on Dream and Fantasy might be worth looking into. However, they do not have the split bath. Our next cruise is going to be a category 8B oceanview and those category 8, as well as category 4, are a bit larger rooms than the other categories.

I was going to suggest the 8A too, but I think they only sleep 3.

OP, we are doing our first non-concierge cruise and have opted for a 7A. We will still have access to verandah space but won't be paying full price for one. Like you, this is the first time we have plans to book excursions.

I typically prefer some type of window to allow natural light in the room (so I can adjust my internal clock) but I been in the sideways room, standard inside room, ocean view and verandah but if I have to pick a favorite room (I don't recall the category off hand) it was the ocean view stateroom with the porthole seating on the Fantasy/Dream.

We like verandahs... We book 4A or 5A.

Martin

4a would certainly give them some more room than traditional spaces but still be less than their experiences with concierge. I would also suggest either a 5e or 4e room for additional verandah space.
