With the 4th being tomorrow I thought this would be fun.

I like God Bless the USA
But I also like some that came out after 9/11 I think one is called the Angry American by Toby Keith

I'm American, but I have to put in a vote for 'Rule, Britannia!' I just think it's cool. I'm also rather fond of 'Oh, Canada'.

As USA patriotic songs go I'll take the 'Star Spangled Banner.' Yeah, it's hard to sing, but I like it when things are a challenge. Kind of like freedom.

Another vote for O Canada :thumbsup2

And I like America the Beautiful if I am picking American patriotic songs. ;)

The first verse of America the Beautiful is lovely.

After that, it's all downhill.

Seriously, O beautiful, for pilgrim feet What is up with that? I was at a funeral not too long ago where they did that as the concluding hymn. My brothers and I all about choked trying not to laugh.

I don't know if this is consider a Patriotic song. I love Lee Greenwood God Bless the USA

Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" is, by far, my favorite.

easy... The Star Spangled Banner
gives me chills, makes me cry and I love to sing it.

My second choice is This Land Your Land, This Land is My Land. I have a kids tape of Woody Guthrie singing it and many of his other patriotic songs.

Kind of funny, kind of not. Woman's Day magazine, in the July 4-encompassing issue, listed their favorite patriotic songs. The first two were "God Bless the U.S.A" and "Proud to be an American" - both by Lee Greenwood. Go figure ;)

Any that isn't sung by a country singer.
Interesting... country music IS American music.

'Battle Hymn of the Republic'. The lyrics are wonderful IMO:

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps,
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps:
His day is marching on.

My only complaint is that many change one of the verses from 'As He died to make men holy let us die to make men free' to 'As He died to make men holy let us live to make men free'. At the time the 'Battle Hymn' was written (US Civil War) men were truly dying to make other men free. Leave it alone!

My two favorites are Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA and God Bless America.

I particularly like God Bless America when it is sung with the beginning.....

As the storm clouds gather,
Far across the sea,
Let us pledge allegiance, to a land that's free.

Let our hearts be grateful, for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices, in our solemn prayer......

God Bless America, Land that I love.........

It is hardly ever sung and makes the song even more moving.

Linda

For me it's Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever."

I prefer to keep God out of my patriotism.

Don't know if everyone would consider it "patriotic" but while remembering the soldiers who have given so much for our freedom, I like to hear "Some Gave All" by Billy Ray Cyrus.

Other than that, God Bless the USA and the American Trilogy

"Golden Dream" from the American Pavillion at EPCOT.

I always think of that song on the 4th. Brings tears to my eyes.

Let Freedom Ring - by some dude that I like listening to (surprise, surprise) - probably will sing it tomorrow on the PBS' Capitol 4th special.
