Hi-- we were trying to find a couple of ideas for someplace new to eat-- we have kids that will be 1.5, 5 and 7 on our next trip.. but we wanted to eat a few really nice places at WDW that were not character meals. We plan to use the dining plan and would like to use one TS credit.

I was thinking maybe Kona or maybe a Boardwalk restaurant? Looking for places that are not in the parks. Just really great food...

Any absolute favorites out there? We like to try new foods and are not picky eaters. thanks in advance for your help! Jennifer

My favorite is Boma. Has lots of dishes you won't find elsewhere on property, and also things little kids will eat.

Yachtsman, Artist Point, Jiko, Flying Fish. Not necessarily in that order.

BOMA is the BOMB!!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 It's my absolute favorite!:goodvibes It's the best buffet ever - and that's what's so cool - you have SUCH a wide and unusual selection - go HUNGRY!! The soups are to die for!

For a buffet, I'd go to Boma. They have decent food there. Another buffet that has really good food is 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian, but it has characters. :(

I don't care much for 'Ohana, but lots of people like it. I do like Kona Cafe at the Poly - much more relaxing and much better food, IMO.

I think Whispering Canyon Cafe is your best choice. Buffets can be tough with younger kids because a parent always has to to up with them. Whispering Canyon is campy...even without the characters.

I'd say Jiko, Cali Grille, or Narcoossee's. Nice thing about Disney is that it's one of the rare places on Earth where you can take your little ones to an upscale restaurant and still have plenty of choices for the kids. You also don't get "the look" from other patrons because you have kids. Family dining with children is the rule at Disney, not the exception! Splurge a little and enjoy yourself!

Whispering Canyon-very fun & they have the alacart choice or All you can eat choice.

GF Cafe- when 1900 PF is open. Quiet & beauitful place. Great food & Service.

Kona-Great food & good service plus a ride on the monorail.

Kona Cafe! It's awesome for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We've never had a bad meal there. It's always yummy.

We like Boma and Kona. We eat at both every trip. I liked Cali Grill also but I didn't think the food was spectacular. It was good just not great. I didn't feel like it was worth the cost or 2 TS.

I have always wanted to try spoodles but for some reason I cant seem to get to the Boardwalk area.

Kona Cafe. (This is a MUST have for us every trip. At least one ADR has to be here!)

Boma is another FAB dinner. Afterwards you can "walk off" your stuffed bellies by viewing the animals at the Lodge. However it is a buffet and I was not sure of you wanted to be up and down a lot. It may cut into the "nice family time" you are looking for enjoying your meal together. It is extremely good! We actually have an ADR there coming up on 8/25!

Whispering Canyon is fun, but be prepared for some wild antics! We had a great time there with our family. Be sure to ask for ketchup!:rotfl:

The previous poster suggested Spoodles. Some people LOVE this place while others are like eh... I am more of the eh... type person. While the food was good the atmosphere was o.k. The menu is VERY limited and while our server was nice...he was the village idiot! I have never worked in a resturant before, but I know I could of done a much better job. Maybe that's why I am not impressed with Spoodles.

Wow...we have a lot of places we like. Going on the original post.....

We love Kona....find it very good all of the time; whether we go for lunch or dinner.

Boardwalk area....Flying Fish is great but with smaller kids, I'd go for Spoodles instead. I think it is much more kid friendly (than FF) and they have a nice variety of mediterranean dishes.

Note: Stay away from Big River Grill at the Boardwalk...very 'average'; especially when compared to the other restaurants I have mentioned.

thanks for all of your advice. We have been to Boma and Ohana (years ago!) and we loved both.. I think we may try Whispering Canyon and Kona on our next trip. I feel we do so many of the same dinners we should try something new!

thanks again!

Boma is our absolute favorite non-park, non-character meal at WDW. The awe inspiring atmosphere of AKL, the variety, the CM's make Boma a must do twice during each trip!
