What is your favorite jar pasta sauce?

When making spagetti for a crowd I like to mix a jar of Ragu garlic and the Ragu with mushrooms. For just our family I usually use the traditional or the Four cheese blend.

Although DD has decided she doesn't like spagetti because it has "green stuff in it" (the spice in the sauce).

Same here. I'm really surprised that there are three pages worth of people who use jar sauce. I mean I know they have a million kinds at the grocery store, and I know that logically it makes sense that if they have so much of it, then people MUST be using it, but I just can't fathom picking up and using a jar of jarred sauce. I don't like any of them :confused3

I'm not italian, I just grew up on homemade sauce and now I don't like anything else. I don't have ANYTHING at all against jar sauce users whatsoever. I'm glad lots of people have ones that they like, but I truly am surprised that so many people use it. It's like one of those things that you know exists but you don't believe it till you see it. LOL

I think jar sauces have come a LONG way and if you can find a sauce with all natural ingredients and what you like it saves some time. I go back and forth between my own homemade sauce and jar sauces. Wegmans has some really tasty sauce.

I pretty much stick with the Wegmans store brand sauce.

Ragu is pretty good too. Not crazy about Prego and the one time I bought Newmans my family hated it. (I have no idea anymore what flavor I bought). I guess you pretty much get used to what you always buy and anything else just tastes strange.

I use Colavita or Victoria's. Both are expensive but I don't use an entire jar at one time so that's why I keep buying it.
Both are very low in sugar as I can't tolerate too much (makes me ill).

Enjoy experimenting. Its fun to try different kinds!

Rinaldi... the style depends on the dish being prepared.

Dh makes our sauce in the fall. It is usually enough to last us through the year. If we run out, then we buy Ragu.

I love pasta and like many, many, many kinds of sauces. I love the various different ways I make my own but I also like the canned and jarred sauces as well. I do not like Prego as much though!!! One of my favorites was Chef Boi are Dee spaghetti sauce. They changed it a few years ago and it is different but still good, just hard to get!!! Ragu, Golden Grain Marinara and Homestead (very dark) are also good.

I use Wegman's Smooth marinara, love it! I usually add cooked italian sausage chunks.

I too love homemade sauce but I don't have enough time to make it, jar sauce is just quicker and easier. :confused3

As an Italian, I can tell you that Ragu and Prego are considered sauce like Tang would be considered orange juice.

However, I totally get the ease of the jar thing, but I use Classico tomato and basil. (get it cheap at Sam's Club). It isn't sugary sweet like the previously mentioned ones. I add browned ground beef.
:rotfl2:

I'm with you (except on adding ground beef. My Italian family makes either meat sauce or tomato sauce, the two are not combined!:rotfl: )

Classico is the only jarred sauce we use. Usually Florentine Spinach and Cheese, sometimes Tomato and Basil or Fire-Roasted Tomato and Garlic.

We use Newman's Own Stockarooni or Italian Sausage and Peppers, and doctor it up with whatever we have on hand.

I made homemade sauce last year, and it was delicious, but it was pretty time consuming and I just don't always have that kind of time. Plus if you are making it with canned tomatoes and paste, what is the difference if you buy it jarred?

I think one of my favorites is Barilla Organic Basil and Garlic. Something like that.

I found a great sauce at my local store a few weeks ago. I have no idea what it was called though and I hope that I can remember when I go later to get it for tomorrow. I had a little bit left from the last time I used it and I added tomatoes and spices to it, sooo yummy. It was super expensive though. It was close to $10 a jar.

Prego Traditional with hamburger added is preferred, but if I am in need of a jar, and something else is on sale, than I'll buy that.

YOU must be Italian! My ex BF's mother/sister/aunts/grandmother would go down to Mt. Vernon where they would buy crates and crates of tomatoes every fall and spend about a week making batches of homemade sauce, with the huge kettle, too! :stir: Just like that one:laughing: They also made their own wine, meat, macaroni, etc. There is nothing better in the whole wide world than my ex BF mother's homemade ravioli and sauce. I can't stand my ex, but I will forever have that perfect taste in my mouth...

One thing I wanted to add since we're talking about sauce: At the end of the summer, my FIL's boat club hosts a party on Fire Island (one of many, lots o'fun!) and they have their annual spaghetti dinner. Each family is required to bring enough sauce for their family - homemade, jarred, combo, whatever. It is added to a huge pot and mixed together. Let me tell you ,it is muy delicioso! I think it's a cool idea for a get together. They use the big pot, like the kind you fry a turkey in - one for the macaroni and the other for the mixed sauce. Talk about a melting pot

When I was home with the babies and not working, I would pick tomatoes off the vine in the backyard and make homemade sauce. I'm sure all of us would love to eat "organic" as much as possible...... Now with teenagers, work and school, who has time? Jar sauce was invented for convenience - and even in today's harried world, it is one of the more healthier options to fast food...just make a pound of macaroni and open a jar of sauce and *viola* Dinner Served:goodvibes

I prefer homemade and make it in large batches and freeze it in family sized portions, but if that is absolutely out of the question I use Ragu with meat.

Prego Chunky Tomato, Onion & Garlic. With hamburger and extra garlic.
My family knows immediately if I deviate to any other brand or flavor. We love it.:lovestruc

Yes it is sweet and thick but we are not Italian and this is how we like spaghetti!

I use Wegman's Smooth marinara, love it! I usually add cooked italian sausage chunks.

I too love homemade sauce but I don't have enough time to make it, jar sauce is just quicker and easier. :confused3

I like the chunky marinara and the garlic with sausage too.

Those sauces have the exact same ingredients that my real sauce does so I just add a little more yummy basil.

I mix a jar of Classico Tomato & Basil with a jar Classico Spicy Red Pepper, and add it to a lb. of cooked ground beef or Italian sausage.
