Do you have an era of history that you are highly interested in or even mildly obsessed with?

I know someone who is all about Napolean and Josephine. She will read every book she can get her hands on.

Me: Two years ago I went through my Egyptology phase. :lmao: Then I had my ancient Rome phase. But I'm consistently interested in WWII and anything to do with slavery in America during colonial and antebellum times.

Also I'm mildly obsessed with the history of Coney Island amusement park in Brooklyn, NY.

You?

I love learning about the French Revolution. I love that time period.
I also like WWII and pretty much any American time period after that. Esp. the 60's:hippie:

Oh the time around Henry VIII and Elizabeth. I have read all of the books by Phillipa Gregory that cover this era as well as some non fiction about that time. Love the movie Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett.

Ditto.:thumbsup2 I've always loved that period of Tudor history. Cate Blanchett was marvelous as Elizabeth I. Loved both of those movies. Another great author for this time period is Alison Weir. She's written numerous books on Henry VIII and his wives, Elizabeth I, Elinor of Aquitaine and so on. :goodvibes

I don't have a favorite era, but my 13 yo has always been a history buff and WWII is his main hobby and interest. He probably knows more about WWII than most adults do.

I love anything WW2 related.
I just find it absolutely fascinating to contemplate what people went through during that time.

I'm fairly obsessed with the Age of Sail. Started with pirates, then their ships, now I'm into the Royal Navy, primarily the social aspects of life aboard ship. I'm usually reading two books on the subject at any given time (one for lunchtime and one at bedtime). Been at it since shortly after the first POTC movie came out. I've developed quite a maritime history library. I've also taken up hobbies that fit the period. I was a tall ship sailor for a bit back in 2004-2005, I did 2 1/2 years of fencing and now I've been into English Country Dance for about a year. I'm a total geek on that era of maritime history.

I love learning about the French Revolution.

Oh yeah, I had a French Revolution phase too. Such an exciting subject and so relevant to people in the 21st century and beyond! The French Revolution is what happens when you push poor and middle class people to the brink.

I'm completely fascinated with the entire Tudor dynasty (1485-1603) and with French history in the time of Louis the XVI & Marie Antoinette (1774-1792).

I love history in general, but those are my favorite parts. :thumbsup2

I've always been a bit obsessed with ancient Greece and mythology.

I've always been consistently interested in the Revolutionary/Articles of Confederation/early Constitutional phases of American history, the Civil War, and WWII history. I have individuals in my family tree who contributed to all of those parts of history, which is likely why I focus on them.

On a global scale, I've always enjoyed British history from the Norman invasion to...oh, I guess about the end of the Tudors.

Although I find Asian pre-Industrial Revolution history fascinating, I just don't feel the same connection to it as I do European and American history.

When I was a kid I loved Greek mythology and history. I kind of fell away from that though. A couple of years ago I read a bunch of books on the Roman Empire, which was also fascinating. I love to learn history that feels relevant.

The Black Death.

I've studied it on my own for various reasons and used the subject in school many times including a 15,000 word essay. I just think it's so fascinating!

I also like WWII stuff.

I assume that you've stumbled across Patrick O'Brien's novels? If not, you should give one a try. His Aubrey/Maturin series focuses on the R.N. during the Napoleonic period. Much detail about the sailing and lifestyle aspects of British navy officers during that time period.

I love history in general but Ancient Rome is my favorite era by far. I am about to start another book about the era. I also like the late American Colonial era and WW2 (especially the European theater) but Rome is the top of my list.

NOW.

I've lived thru history and don't think I want to go back to anything at least not here.... :scared:

I love the Victorian era. I combine that love w/my love of well-written mysteries by devouring Anne Perry books - she doesn't write fast enough for me! My DDs say I probably lived in Victorian England in a previous life, but I'm pretty sure that if I did, I wasn't aristocracy - I was a "tweeny" or a kitchen maid LOL!
