This is a spinoff of the FUN thread...

The best budget thing I do is only go food shopping, stay away from other stores (Walmart especially)

My #1 best tip for saving money is making our own pizza. We used to go out for it once a week which wound up costing at least $20 with sodas so now I make it for $5.

#2 way of saving money is just use vinegar, baking soda and bleach for cleaning.

Finding "free" things to do. In Columbus, the Museum of Art is free on Sundays, you just have to pay for parking.

I like this, too. Also going to the library.

I also like using cloth napkins, they look so much nicer, save money and are good for the environment. I don't even buy paper towels or napkins anymore.

Going to the library and letting Carlee play with the puzzles. Going to Barnes and Noble or Books a million for story time or letting DD play with the train set.

Let the kids pick out a movie from redbox or netflix and have a movie night.

Our favorite budget trip is camping.
I totally agree with going to food stores for food..that is the best practice no only to get the best price but to avoid picking up stuff here and there throughout the store LOL stuff just jumps into the cart! :rotfl2:

Making our own pizza..LOVE IT. We got a pizza maker thingy as a wedding gift ummm 7 years ago..but pulled it out and really go to using it a couple years ago...we cannot believe we ever let the thing gather dust. It makes the BEST pizza and we just figured out how to make calzones in it. YUMMY and budget friendly!

The beach is another fun thing that is budget friendly we got a year pass to the dunes so in the summer we swim and in the fall and spring we usually take the sand toys and kite. We can hike the dunes too :)

Oh and biking or walking the bikes trails (they are very nice) and getting our Disney Legs :)

We like free movie night at the library. We saw UP there last night with free popcorn!

Now I am the opposite, I like using Walmart for my snacks and such they are alot cheaper. So I alternate one week Walmart one week Shoprite.

Cooking from scratch is such a stress reliever for me. Also going to the farmer's market. I have to pay cash for everything and I feel super guilty if I don't use up the produce. Also I love making pizza from scratch. DH loves it too. The library has always been a favorite of mine. I love getting Disney movies from there.

Going to yard sales for clothing and household items instead of Department stores.

hands down, the library for everything- books, CDs, movies, museum passes and just a quiet place to catch up on work

we don't buy paper napkins any more either! you also only use one cloth napkin for every 2 or 3 paper. paper napkins are not durable, especially with kids and/or messy meals. i just throw a load in my wash every day or two with other towels, jeans or tableclothes. i have a ton of cloth napkins, but you can always pick them up at yard sales or thrift stores.

My wife loves to do family history. Our library has a subscription to Ancestry.com so she does a lot of research for free there.

Visiting the zoo. For our family, a year membership is less than $100, and it is one of our favorite things to do. (We bring our own water, and bypass the gift shop.)

shop at thrift stores for things I need....like I did today! I needed some basic skirts,(I love skirts in summer) and found 5 in my size, plus a pair of GOOD jeans for fall for 20.00:cool1: either Goodwill or Savers is my fave place to 'splurge'
