What is VMK to you??

I've always played VMK not just viewing it as a virtual game, but as a game where REAL people with REAL feelings and REAL lives come to hang out, meet new people, and have fun.
Do you treat friends you've made on vmk, just as you'd treat friends you have in your town?
When confronting a friend I've had for over a year about something he did that hurt Rob and I. This is what he said "You need to face this as not reality, ITS A GAME."
So I'm just curious.. What is VMK to everyone else??

I know alot of ppl consider vmk just a virtual game. But ppl, understand, there are real life characters behind these pixels. Ppl with feelings, and fears. I think we should treat each other like we treat our family, our friends, co workers and neighbors.

Show each other the same love and friendship, I promise you, you'll never regret it. Help the less fortunate or younger players.

Above anything else, support your friends. Believe in them. Listen to them when they talk to you. Why bother to ask someone how they are if you cant take the time to hear their reponse? Be the kind of friend that you want in return.

Be a friend, even in this virtual world. After all its better to have a few close friends, than a full friends list.

VMK to me, is like being able to go to a Disney Park any time I want ( unless it's between the times of 10 - 7 ) It's a place where I can forget my problems and have fun I treat people in the game the same way I treat people in the real world - nicely. There are real people behind those characters, so you should treat them that way Even though there are some people who are mean, and there are so many complaints about how bad VMK is handling in problems, there are still many good people who still spread pixie dust and Disney magic

With all the scamming and such, nobody i know wants to talk to ANYBODY. Its like.. uh, gotham city! Its ghetto, and alot of bad people out there. VMK for me has really become just a place to hang out with friends.

When I first joined VMK, it seemed as though I was actually in DLR everytime I logged on. It doesn't as much now as it did then, but it still does in a sense... and that's only PART of the reason I enjoy VMK. I also think it's a lot more fun, and actually easier to make good friends on VMK than it is to on games like Runescape or Habbo (which brings up another thought...)

That's what I was thinking. Haha, Habbo is SO much worse than VMK, in my opinion. First of all, the people on there are discusting and talk about the most discusting things. Why be around that type of stuff when you could be on VMK with (mostly) clean discussion. I mean, seriously. You can't escape it in Habbo! It's EVERYWHERE! @_@ lol

While I view VMK as a game, I have also always realized that there are real people behind those avatars.

This is a problem with these kinds of games. Kids today are so used to video games with AI players that can somewhat interact with them. So, they think its only a game and no one can get hurt. They are not aware that what they do and say will result in real people getting hurt. I've seen so many kids these days treat real life as if it were a game because they play so many games.

While games are good and can be fun, life is not a game. And people are not a game.

Always treat everyone and everything the same way you want to be treated.

Oh, and VMK is my WDW since I can't get there any time soon. It's also my own therapy for my shopping and collecting addictions.

To me vmk, is my own little world to escape to when the pressure of the real world just becomes to much. You can sink back to the golden age of piracy, and make some credits. Or you can go and make some money as a ghost exterminator. The reason why I love vmk so much, is it is my escape where I can be anything from a cowboy, to Jack Sparrow, and everyone in between. That, and I can build my own pirate ship. I also enjoy knowing that i'm talking to real people, and not just some ai that randomly generates phrases. That, and I enjony being on dis boards because it gives me somewhat like a family to talk with, and schedule events. I can't wait for the Oct. Dis Meet, because I can finally meet the people behind the curtain, to quote thw wizard of Oz.

I like VMK because I can earn credits and build my rooms - I am not rich, but if I plan and save, I can make things I like.

I mostly, however, have enjoyed meeting my friends on VMK and of course I treat them like real people who are real friends in real life- frankly, I would treat animated non-living characters the same way.

There are sometimes people on who seem especially callous - people who come into a room and start saying "Ur ugly" or "I hat you" to total strangers (usually "female" guests) - this type of thing is nonsense and shows poor breeding and manners. Of course the problem really is that many players are children- some as young as 8 or even younger, who are unable to understand why someone would do this. I think the people who do this are pot stirrers, just trying to get the little avatars to cry or say something back, because they are "bored."

Back onto the topic, I have met some wonderful people, who I know would be dear friends in real life, as they are on the boards. If someone said to me that this was just a virtual game, etc., after treating me unfairly, I would have no problem in deleting them, however.

I agree completely....It was just a "Disney fix" at first with the chance of meeting new ppl and making friends on a game. However, that changed quickly to true friendships for some of them with me. I have still a close circle of friends in the game, and keep adding new friendships. However, if someone treats one of my friends or myself wrong; then I really consider if they should continue to be on my friend list. Friends keep me coming back, the Disney fix is a bonus now.

I need to modify the first question a bit. "What did VMK USED to be to you?"

It used to be a fun place to hang out with very nice people, to have some of that Disney magic. To be excited by new items and new quests and new people. To have ppl ask questions and be nice when you helped them. To chat with others who had similar interests about everyday stuff.

Now, it's a whole other story. It's become mean and nasty. I was berated again last night by some little punk. I cannot talk to my friends on VMK, past the basic "How are you?" to which they can only reply "Fine thanks" even if their best friend just died, for fear that it will be construed as personal information.

I'm sick and tired of all the drama that's unfolded lately. I'm tired of kids being mean to me. I won't let my daughter on any more at all because I'm tired of her crying.
