What is up with these 2009 prices I am getting?

I'm trying to book a room for January 2009. I know that I can't get a package and all that until the summer, but the room only rates they are giving me just don't seem right. It's a value period and the rates that they are quoting me are about $90-$150 more per night than the 2008 value period rate. It's not really going up that much is it? Are these rates going to go down? I guess I just don't understand where these numbers are coming from and was wondering if anyone else was running into this problem.

A couple examples:
All-Star Family Suite 2008 value rate $184/night
2009 value rate quoted at $275/night
Beach Club Standard view 2008 value rate $325/night
2009 value rate quoted at $440/night

It just seems too much. I'm trying to find a room for a family of 5 and the all-star family suite seemed like a great deal but at $275 it doesn't anymore.

Can someone help me sort this all out?

Thanks,
Carolyn

if you stay at por they accomadate 5 in a room...we love por and its cheaper than a delux and cheaper than the asm family suite

That really doesn't sound right at all. I would call back and speak to another CM. Actually, they should be booking by the 2008 prices because the 2009 prices aren't out until August, even for room only. I would certaiy hope they wouldn't raise rates that much.

The reason is because 2009 rates haven't been released, even room only rates. They usually aren't out until early to mid August.

Right now any pricing they give you will be based on regular season, no matter when you book.

So they will adjust it once the final seasons and prices have been released later this summer.

Yep, I believe the same thing happened last year. I wonder why the CM's dont make that clear when they qoute those crazy rates.

This is correct. They book EVERYTHING at higher rates until the seasons and and rates for 2009 have been released.

Once those are released an adjustment is made.

I can't believe I've been going to WDW for years (and always booking a year+ out) and I never realized this! Thanks for the info (and to the OP, thanks for asking).

Thank you guys for clearing this up for me! We were really trying to watch our costs this time and had gotten really discouraged when it seemed like it would be this much. I looked and they are giving us the same rates as 2008's peak time rates. At least now we know it won't be so much. The cm's really should inform people of this. I don't think we would have even realized it if we didn't just get home from Disney. We had stayed AKL concierge this January 2008 and thought it was just ridiculous that we would be paying almost as much for either a moderate or the family suite at all-star for one year later. Thank goodness for disboards!

My guess is that the CM's at CRO/WDTC don't know it either, or at least that is what I tell myself. Some of them really don't seem to know what they are doing.

You might be able to see the rates online. Try booking your room starting on 12/31/08. It will give you the per day rates on the stay, and it looks like the value rates are in there.

When I check POR, I get the following rates:

12/31/08 - $205
1/1/09 thru 1/4/09 - $154 (which is $5 higher than the 2008 value season rate)

It may not work for all rooms, but this is what I'm looking at.
