I saw that you can apply for the card now. I put my name on their "secret list" 2 or 3 times, but have not gotten an email saying I can apply now. Has anyone been notified? I see there is only 1% of reward $. I have never had a reward card, but people on this board are saying that stinks. I also saw that you can more reward $, or get more for your reward $, by buying certain featured Disney items. So it seems they are giving more than 1% for their merch or vacations, but keeping a tight control over which exact merch or vacation options. Is it worth it? How does this compare to a regular Platinum card, cause that is what I am using now.

I also left my name on he list and never received an email. Today I just called and applied over the phone. The # is 1-888-688-4868. Hope this helps.

They orignally said you would be contacted before you could apply on March 3rd. I think they started taking applications early. I applied yesterday, even though I did not get any notice yet. I am guessing they will be coming sometime within next week. Although a lot of people applied already.

Many people on these boards are rushing to judgement about the worth of the new card. We now know more information about it but we still don't know the whole story.

Some folks just need something to complain about.

By the way, 1% is actually fairly standard on rebate cards. And also many other reward cards out there charge an annual fee.

I applied for it today. I'll see how it is.

I think 1% is about average and if we get this card, we will buy all our gas, groceries, etc on it and earn more but pay it off each month. I think that makes sense. I figure we will accrue $100 or more each year. I mean you can pay utilities and everything on credit now.

I have the Chase-i card and use it for all my everyday expenses from groceries and gasoline to paying the telephone and electric bills. My monthly charges always exceed $2000. I get a $20 webbie every month. No annual, and because I pay it off as soon as I get the bill, it have yet to cost me anything. It also pays back at a rate of 1%. The rate is pretty standard.

I applied for the Disney VISA because I need a VISA card and I would like to have another card for those large, one-time expenses like the vacation bill or a new refrigerator. There's always something like that every other month. As long as it's paid off in full when due, you can work it to your advantage.

I figure that the Disney VISA will have offerings similar to what Universal is offering thru their Universal Entertainment MasterCard. To check out what they are doing, click on this link:
Universal Entertainment MasterCard
If Disney's offerings are similar, it may be worth getting for some of us.

I find it somewhat amusing that some may think we don't know enough about what we'll get with the card until we start using it!

Baffling, but if you read carefully, you realize that you'll have t spend $75,000 to get the maximum dollar amount in Disney rewards a year; $750! It is clearly stated before you apply.

They have laid it all out: Everything you'll get, at least as of now. If they made changes later, they may convince some of us who aren't too thrilled with what they have now.

For those of us who kept reading we also found out the following...

In your statement and online, you'll get special bonus offers that let you earn double, triple or more Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on selected Disney purchases or get more with your reward dollars when you redeem them. As a Cardmember, you'll also receive special bonus offers, such as special deals on vacation packages or merchandise when you use your Disney's Visa® Card. For example, you'll receive a $50 onboard credit when you or your travel agent book a Disney Cruise Line® vacation with your Disney's Visa Credit Card. The offer is good for sailings through 12/31/03.

There's more to the card than a 1% cash rebate. That is why I suggest reserving judgement until we find out what some of the "special bonus offers" are.

Very well, if the special perks limit you to booking cruises and packages... good luck with your rewards!

Spend $5,000 on a cruise to get $50 in rewards.. Oh goody!

I'd rather get free tickets or room stays based on points awarded through any purchases than having them restricted to booking Disney offers....

OK, I guess we differ because our level of expectations for the new card differed. The way I see it, with what I will probably spend on the card over a year, I'll probably end up with about a $200 Disney reward (plus any double or triple $ accumulation from Disney related purchases, so let's say $250 all together). I can use that $250 toward a hotel room or a park hopper ticket, whatever. Now, I agree that this is really no better than a standard cash rebate credit card. But, I think it has added value because of additional special offers similar to what the "lame duck" Disney Club has offered, like a $50 cruise on-board credit, or maybe a merchandise discount, or whatever. I was never expecting this card to allow me to cut my Disney vacation expenses in half, just give me an additional discount.

Of course, some people thought the Disney Club was crap, so I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

BTW, as an aside, isn't it great to be able to argue about stuff like this. What a great break from real life!!!
;)

I got the email last night; the online application was stubborn about some facts, so I called and applied over the phone.

My husband and I both got our email last night with the link to the application.

I will sign up, but whether I keep it or not is a different story.
