What is up with the AWFUL smell?

When we first moved to Florida I noticed a lot of bad, sewage type smells certain times and places. Then I found out a lot of places use "reclaimed" water for irrigation - basically "sewer water" that has been treated, but is not potable (drinkable).

Lots of times you'll see signs saying they are saving water by using reclaimed water to irrigate with (but usually the signs also say stay off, and don't drink from the sprinkler head  ), but usually there's no doubt which water they are using as soon as the sprinklers turn on and you get a whiff! :rotfl:

I wonder if it's like the smell I occasionally smell near swampy or low-flowing water areas like rivers, etc. It's kind of a sulphury, petroleum, nasty smell. I always just assumed it had something to do with high humidity and perhaps some exposed water-logged area. Sort of the smell of "things stewing," like rotting vegetation, water going stagnant, etc. Though I've noticed the worst is usually at night when, again, it's very humid and there is little wind.

there is almost always a really nasty sewer smell in the animal kingdon right before the bridge to dinoland.

There ya go - picking on Beverly again!
Beverly gets a bum rap! It's my favorite drink over there. If it was available to buy, I would take some home. So There! ( LOL )

I've heard a rumor that a Schenectady Wal-Mart (which one is under debate) is going to offer Beverly in the Sam's Cola machines out front. $25 a can. YUM!

;)

Exactly...Certain areas....and really didn't go with the Pop Corn I was eating.....popcorn:: I didn't think of the sulphur aspect of it....That is probably it....I'd still like to blame it all on STITCH! :dance3:

Turkey Legs ... I swear it is the Turkey Legs! ... or maybe Stitch, but his chili burp smells better to me than the Turkey Legs.

Awwwww......My sister LOVES those Turkey Legs....and has to have one every time we go.....Me? My "tradition" is having a box of Pop Corn....THAT smell I can take ANY time!

I never noticed this in the parks, but in a certain area of Pop Century it was awful. After my second visit there, I had to try to figure out what it was. At first I thought some sort of sewage from the pool, but I noticed it was only from this one area with these small bushes. When I went near the bushes it got stronger. My guess is that it is some sort of fertalizer. It was very strong and awful.

The smell has always been there from what I can remember.
It's at the MK and at Epcot but ONLY in certain areas. It's like it's hovering over those areas and you actually walk through the cloud of stink. LOL

Not sure what it is but it does smell like sewage......more than a little gross when you're walking along with a snack and all of a sudden your nose catches a whiff of

.

I've caught a whiff of it occasionally too, but it's not a constant thing. Just in certain areas as I'm walking by a sewage drain I guess.

Well, I have openly admitted in the past that I do crop dust lines, particularly in FantasyLand and whenever I have a FP, but I was not there at that time.

Anyone who was in the parks on June 2-3, I do apologize.

It's the water. They use different stuff to treat the water there, than where others of us live. I smell it everywhere at Disney. It does smel like sewage water and I suspect some of it is rehabbed water from the treatment plant, but that is speculation.

take a shower there and then the smell follows you everywhere :rolleyes1

I too smell it EVERY trip in the same area....

EPCOT in between the soarin building and the Innovations area. Usually around the ponds in the middle there. That is the only place I ever smell it, and it definetly smells like sewage. Have smelled it every trip in the last 5 years. :confused3

OK... You guys! I am starting to believe....that Stitch IS the cause of that nasty smell...You have convinced me!

Oh yeh! Blame it on the blue space alien.

From what I've heard the smell can't be that bad cause Disney is reported to be packed.

OH MY GOSH YES!!

When my friends and I visited and stayed at Pop in August of 2006 and on our walks back from the food court area or the bus area and the first person to smell it would yell "FEET!" We agreed that it smelled like nasty, sweaty, stale, moldy gym socks. We figured that it was some sort of fertilizer because the smell was always around the trees and bushes.

The only terrible smell that I remember is the horrible smell of the bushes at ASMO. We were in the Love Bug building and those bushes stank up the building entrance.:cheer2:

I couldn't smell anything for years, and after my sinus surgery i could smell everything times 10! It took a little while for the hypersensitivity to settle down to normal--maybe this is it??

I swear they must vent the chili dog smell after each Stitch ride cycle. Tomorrowland always carries that odor for me--or maybe it is just a bad memeory

I agree!! I can't stomach the smell of those nasty Legs:crazy2: Give me Stitch anyday. Unfortunately, DD and DS love those things. I can't even get near them after they eat...it lingers UGH!

That's the smell. My daughter said it smelled like real bad cheese. So you are right on target. I know there are a lot of smelly chessy feet out there. LOL.

They really should do something about that. Walking back to my room I used that stairway (in the 60s section) coming back from the food court with my chessy fries, the last thing I want to do is smell chessy feet. LOL.
