When we first moved to Florida I noticed a lot of bad, sewage type smells certain times and places. Then I found out a lot of places use "reclaimed" water for irrigation - basically "sewer water" that has been treated, but is not potable (drinkable).
Lots of times you'll see signs saying they are saving water by using reclaimed water to irrigate with (but usually the signs also say stay off, and don't drink from the sprinkler head
), but usually there's no doubt which water they are using as soon as the sprinklers turn on and you get a whiff!
