What is up with all the moved threads?

I have had many invaluable budget tips here, including scoring amazing deals for things that I never would have been able to find on my own. I usually come to the Budget Board on average about once a day (more if I am planning a trip or looking for a particular deal). I agree with many that it feels like "home" to me, and it is the board I view far more often than any of the others.

Moderators, I am grateful for what you do and I wouldn't want your job. I don't post much, but I do try to share budget tips and deals with others here when I find them. If that is inappropriate, I will stop...but I think it is still in the spirit of the board. I don't want to make the Mods work harder, but I also don't want to be assigned points, either!

That said, if a thread has been moved, it doesn't bother me to click on the "moved" link to read it. It is what, an extra click?

The moved link only stays up for a short period of time. You can't tell what the thread is about if you weren't following it before it got moved as when you put your cursor over it you don't get the first few lines of the thread.

The threads that get moved over to the community board are moved so fast to the bottom of the pile they end up on the 2 or 3 page very easily. Then nobody sees them.

I am shocked that people have the time to spend sorting out and reporting individual threads on a message board about money saving. If they aren't profane or offensive, why would someone bother? I am sad that the budget board is being dismantled.

I don't report, but I do admit, AT TIMES, I wish that the budget boards were just monitored... the "budget threads" do tend to get lost.

I don't want to hurt feelings, but someone asked....

Asking if what type of coat/house/car etc is NOT budget because everyone has a different idea of budget for those items, but telling that you purchased a coat/house/car etc at a really great price is very helpful. I still believe if you are looking for a suggestion on a product, going to the family boards will be helpful, but like today, the thread that showed me how to get zoo tickets half price was really useful.... BUT it was all the way on the bottom because of the the which color do you like better type of threads were getting answered. Does this make sense??

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I will not hide behind a bag and admit to reporting posts. It is annoying and yes I could ignore but why should I have to. I do read titles and then look at posts to see if they are budget. Some people really do stretch the budget relation in their posts. I support the moving and am in the minority but......

So, it's all about YOU? I missed the post when the announcement concerning this was made. (Mods...go ahead and point me up good for sarcasm....) They need to change the name of the site to ADIZZYMOMboards.com in that case.

Eventually life is going to serve you a lesson in which you learn that the universe doesn't revolve around you. Until then, please know that your narcissism is ruining this board for the vast majority of it's regular visitors.

I, for one, grant you your wish. You want to be a forum killer? Wish granted...and...poof...:wizard:...I'm gone!

If you want to run a board, I would suggest you start your own website, not sit here dictating what the rest of the world can and can't post. What makes you think your opinions and interests are any more important that everyone else's?

So, you bully the moderators into applying your wishes above everyone else's? Behavior like this is why I don't post on the Community board and why I've said repeatedly that I would prefer my posts be deleted over having them moved there.

Since you seem to be running the moderators, I'll bow out and leave the board to you. Have fun chatting with the other bullies...soon you'll be the only ones left on this board!

@EKW I just answered a question that was answered and I have no intentions of moderating the board, I said I wish it was monitored. Big difference. You are the only person who posted who has been nasty or confrontational. Everyone is trying to come up with something that works for everyone.

I think you were out of line with your post to me, but hey you have the right to say what you want.

It will be most constructive if we all find a way to come to a mutual agreement on this matter.

Most everyone agrees that we would like to see the budget board kept intact. Suggestions that merit looking into include moving this board entirely to the Just for Fun section or starting a sub-forum within this board for subjects that may questionably be budget-related, or just about saving money in general.

If things on the budget board have gone astray from the rules, then the moderators are correct in moving the threads. We are just asking for an alternative to moving the threads to the current community board, where they will die because most of us don't frequent that board, and that particular board is entirely too big as is.

I don't have a clue why people even care to report threads at all. The only thing I would ever report is spam or bad language. Do I really care if there is a thread about recipes here? Not really. I'm actually interested in recipes, so I"d probably read it, but if it was about sometimg I wasn't interested in, i'd just skip over it.

:thumbsup2

Just saved this so mods can see...I did report this rude verbal abuse. The mods can delete this when they delete this post.

Yes I posted those here only because other people were posting topics like that here and I was new to this board.

Here is one that is way off topic...I answered it for the person. This is a link and this IMHO is one that doesn't belong here and a simple search will answer a question. Yes, mine too didn't belong here and I should not have posted them here but like others I made an error and I admit it. I have learned what to post here and what not to post on this forum. If it is budget it goes here and if not community area where non-budget topics go. There are lots still here that don't belong here...but that are here. I have admitted that I am guilty of posting wrong posts here and if they had been moved I wouldn't have 'taken offense' as so many here do. I would have thought ok I posted in the wrong place and they moved it...no biggie.

Here is another one that should be moved....an example .....I think so many post here as it is close to the top and community is way down in the 'basement' for the 'lower' people.

Although what is the definition of budget? Is it anything that helps you save money? Then many of the posts should not have been moved. If someone asks opinions about treadmills, that is budget realted as they may be thinking of buying one and do not want ot waste good money on a piece of crap. I think the definition of what is appropriate is different for everyone.

^^This^^

There will never be a consensus on what "budget" truly means because it is different for everyone. I come to this board for the opinions on vehicles or treadmills, for the opinions on how to refinish wood floors, for the entertainment provided by runaway hamsters... a thread may not be directly related to WDW but that does not diminish the fact that it is useful to many members of this community.

I live on the West Coast. I have been to WDW once with no plans to return for quite some time. I visit the Budget Board because I find the topics interesting, NOT because I am trying to scrimp up cash for a planned trip to Orlando.

I vote for moving the Budget Board to the JUST FOR FUN section without further dismantling.

I did not get that feeling from sduck at all . Poster respectfully posted why they thought some posts should be moved. I may not agree , but no need to get upset. This is how things get ugly fast . :flower3: Oh and ps, I didn't report this , as adults I would hope we can work things out , not need a third party to intervene .

Hello everyone,

As you can see I am not one who posts on the boards but I am an avid reader to the budget board. I find it useful and helpful, not only for disney budget related topics but I have also found plenty of fantastic deals that I would not have found anywhere else. I have never reported any post or person for that matter, although some have been questionable to me, but hey, they are who they are and I will not lower myself to their level.

I can see some points of view for this forum. To some it may be a place to really just look for ways to find the best way to get to their dream vacation(s). Saving money on an IRA or cell phone bill/phone would get me a bit more magic at the world...dessert party, dinner, babysitting for the kids, as examples. To others it is a way for finding the best deals on things that are important life decisions.

I visit the DVC boards, Theme park and dining forums but never wander over to the community board, to be honest I am not here to make friends, I am here for my love of learning more about the mouse and his house. No offense to anyone.

Dear moderators:
Maybe we could find a sub forum to make all happy, not just being sent over to the community boards. Really, I am here for the happiness and magic above all else.

Thank you for letting my ramble!!

PS I don't even know how to get fancy with my postings. LOL Oh wait - :)

You know, because two people are participating in this thread and admitted they are among the many (according to The DIS Team) who report threads they feel are in the wrong place doesn't give anyone the right to berate or chastise them. If The DIS Team believed those threads were in the right place, they'd have left them. And I find it impossible to comprehend that TWO people would have such a huge influence over the DIS administration.

I just wanted to reiterate that while sometimes I "wish", I do not report threads for being off topic. I just thought things would move a bit more smoothly without attacks if the board was moderated. That's all.

I like ilovejack02 feel we can do that as adults, but I also will not sit back and let the boards go haywire.

Today is my first day visiting the Budget Board, and this thread is the first one I clicked. I chose to visit today for two reasons: 1) I am strongly considering purchasing an annual pass, and I want some tips for how to save enough money to make several trips to Disney in one year. 2) I love that little tag line that says, "'Any dollar saved or earned is another dollar for Disney!" That right there could be my life motto!

On that note, I have to say that threads about American Girl Dolls, game suggestions for birthday parties, and threads about how long cell phone batteries should last TOTALLY relate to budgeting for me. That's the exact sort of stuff I came here today to learn.

If I want to purchase an American Girl doll, it helps to know where to find a good deal (so I can save money for Disney). If I want to plan a birthday party, it helps to know some games to play, so I can avoid going to Inflation Nation or My Gym (and save $350 for Disney). If I am looking for a cell phone (which I am), it helps me to avoid a lemon and hear about ones that are real winners (so I can make one good purchase and thereby save money for Disney).

I am looking forward to participating on this Board. If it is only going to be for saving money on Disney vacations, that's not really enough. And I already have MouseSavers for that anyway. I am looking for a real discussion group on how to budget, and I am hoping to share ideas with people who love Disney as much as I do.

Hope this gets worked out soon!

Everyone seems real nice.

Welcome!!!

Everyone here IS very nice, and I think that is why this means so much to so many of us. There is a lot of great information to be shared among this group. Not every post will be of use to all of us, but the ones that are can save us some big $$$!!!

:goodvibes

I remember this same sort of discussion several years ago. I believe it was right after Magic Your Way tickets/packages came out. Prior to that, this board was supposed to be dedicated to finding deals for travel to Disney, period. With the way Disney changed the packages, there really weren't a whole lot of discounts being offered anymore. That's when the description of the Budget Board got changed to "'Any dollar saved or earned is another dollar for Disney".

Its been a good run, but I think I may say goodbye to the Budget Board. Admittedly I haven't been that active here lately, but always knew I could come here for great budget related advice. Looks like that won't be the case any longer.

We can now let this thread die a happy death and welcome back everyone! Webmaster Kathy has stated as long as the thread is not completely off topic, it won't be moved!

Now let us get back to work, saving some $$$$ to spend at the Mouse House!
