I just booked a one bedroom at OKW. What can you tell me about it? What will we love?

Hmm, I am sure some OKW owners will chime in with more details, but here is what we love about it...

Room size, table for 4 on the balcony, laid back atmosphere, Jimmy Buffet music :) ,the lush/mature vegetation, boat ride to DTD. I also think it is a decent location--the drive or bus ride isn't all that unbearably long to any park.

I love OKW

Everything!!!

  • The laid back, Florida keys theming.
  • The large balconies with table and chairs for enjoying morning coffee, playing cards, eating or just hanging out.
  • All of the wildlife (bunnies, all kinds of birds and the occasional deer & armadillo)
  • The boat ride to Downtown Disney (don't miss it...it's so relaxing!)
  • The steel drum & Jimmy Buffet music played in the main area.
  • The feeling that you are in a home, rather than in a hotel.
  • The feeling that you are a million miles from all of the rushing around...yet you're really just a quick bus ride away!
  • And so much more!
OKW is fantastic! Enjoy your stay.

Everything mentioned above, plus size of the bathrooms, laundry in the unit, it really feels like coming home. We love staying at OKW, it is so relaxing and such large accomodations in the 1 BR and up units.

We recently did a split stay at OKW and SSR with DD17 and DS12.
The entire family voted OKW. The atmosphere seemed more relaxed. We enjoyed Olivia's Restaurant (but we also really enjoyed Turf Club at SSR) and the main pool.
Enjoy your stay

Not to jack the thread but doesn't it bother anyone to have to take a bus back to your room if you visit the pool? We have only stayed at OKW one night because thats all we could get once at the front end of a trip but taking a bus to your room. We thought that was CRAZY!! So we have never went back.

I agree. We always walked it 'cuz the buses were so slow. WHAT a schlep! We were all sweaty hot by the time we got back to the villa (it was August). NOW they have added the HH booking category and I would never go there again unless I could be guaranteed that category. A 15 min. walk to the main pool or restaurants is more than what we want to deal with on top of all the walking at the parks. I am sure if we'd been closer it would've made the whole trip a little better.

We don't really mind the walk, but we also go in February when it's not nasty hot outside. The kids typically use the nearby quiet pool more often than not, even if we have a car.

We almost always walk to/from the pool. Even if we had to take the bus it wouldn't bother me.

Ditto, and also Olivia's, best hamburger and turkey sandwich! (I also love the breakfast potatoes)

The main pool, slide, and hot tub are nice. OKW is considered a deluxe resort, so it is not crowded like staying at a value resort like Pop Century or The Allstars. I would try and get a room as close to the main lobby as possible. OKW has some nose bleed areas and is a real pain to walk to the lobby.

If you do end up in one of the areas farther from the main building you don't have to walk there, you just have to hop on any bus. They all stop at the Hospitality House before leaving the property.

The "nosebleed" sections are our favorites...quiet, more relaxed, etc...and the Hospitality House area is our least favorite. Different strokes, and all.

Ya, if we ever decide to go back we will try for the HH cat.

Oh, I agree that it would be mighty uncomfortable in August! We tend to travel in the October-to-February period so it is much more tolerable.

Isn't it interesting how people feel so differently about things? Personally, I don't like the HH area at all. It is much too congested, it can be hard to find a parking place and it just feels so much more hectic up there. We like the outlying areas and are also glad that the HH has been made it's own category so we know we won't get it. Something for everyone, right? :thumbsup2
