What is the worst thing you've ever smelled?

While my husband and I were on vacation a skunk crawled into the basement and died. It must have been early on that it got in because over the two weeks we were gone the smell spread through the house and sunk into EVERYTHING. The smell is indescribable. All I can say is...PU!!! We have all the windows open even though it's January and I'm literally typing this one-handed because if I don't keep my nose pinched shut I'm liable to throw up.

So what are your stinky experiences? Also, any tips for covering up the smell?

Ugh.... the skunk odour can last a couple of weeks. My carport got hit.... I could smell it for over a week.

Indoors? It can be much longer. Kinda hard to have windows open in the winter.

The dead lizard the cat brought in and hid in my daughter's closet. You wouldn't think such a little thing would make such a big smell!

Second place - my son's shoes after working a week at El Polo Loco (and how he learned he need to wash his shoes off after work each day). Meat (picked up from the floor) ground into the treads and then it rots - yuck.

My twins had that for 10 days when they were one - in February! We had to open the windows.
You know it's bad when the doctor says that they can diagnose it just from the smell. It was the only time one of my kids ever had to be hospitalized. :(

Go to a janitorial , or carpet supply and get some skunk off. It is for extremely fowel odors

The dog ate a whole box of instant bread mix and got an infection in her colon. She developed a bloody diarrhea that litterelly sprayed the walls.

My kids went all that time without eating, they couldn't even sit up, but I managed to keep them hydrated. I remember other parents asking m how you know it's rota - you never forget that smell!

A pig farm in South Korea that I used to have to run past in the army and certain gangrenous wounds

Rotting flesh wounds and black, tarry melenic stools (sometimes called melanotic, which have blood from above the stomach that has been digested by stomach acid) are up there.

Growing up, one day the toilet was doing funky things so my brother, in an attempt to fix it, opened a valve in the cellar and city sewerage spilled all over the floor. :faint:

Skunk is bad - I feel for the pp who had the dead skunk, both of those smells combined must've permeated the whole house. I don't know how you'd get rid of it!

I am sorry I read this thread while eating lunch! BUT working in the medical field there are some really nasty smells as people have pointed out, and I have smelled all that have been mentioned way more times than I care too!

This is morbid, but fecal matter that was pooring out of a dead person's mouth like water. We turned him to clean him up, and it all spilled out. Not the highlight of my nursing career!

Why, why, why did I open this thread.

We have a mushroom processing plant on the same block as a Maple Leaf processing plant (beef/pigs). In the summer you have to avoid the area on certain days of the week..it's so gross.

Walked by a dumpster once on the UC Berkeley campus on the way to a basketball game. Smelled like I imagine a dead body would smell. The dumpster was marked as containing green waste. Must have been decomposing for some time.
