We will be at Disneyland the first week of May and was wondering what the weather is like then. In the past we have gone to DL in October and November and have needed sweatshirts at night. Not sure what to pack for May. Any suggestions would be helpful. :worship:

You will still definitely want the sweatshirts.

Here in SoCal we have something called May Gray, which is fog/clouds that hang around in the morning, keeping things cool until it burns off in the afternoon. It's not as bad in Anaheim as it is here in San Diego, but it will still be in the 50's in the early morning and once the sun goes down.

It's really hard to say this far out for that time of year so keep watching the forecasts.

But generally you will probably need a sweatshirt in the early morning and evening. That time of year it will probably still be cooling off at night. If i was planning on May i would probably plan on jeans and t-shirts with a sweatshirt but you never know if there will be a heat wave or an unusally cool spell. It also depends on what climate you're used to and how easily you get hot/cold. Hope that helps a little bit.

Thanks LavenderPeach. I had been watching the weather and checking the average temps on weather.com too. I guess I am just anxious for our trip and want to start packing now! I will be in jeans and t-shirts for the most part. My DH will be in shorts...even when we were their the week before Thanksgiving he was in shorts and I was in jeans and a sweatshirt! Since we are there for a week and will have a washer/dryer :laundy: in our DVC unit then we should plan on clothing for both seasons! We are in NC and last week it was 80 degrees and today it is in the mid 30's! so I know about the climate changing from week to week!

Our DD :bride: is on her honeymoon at WDW this week and the weather there is in the 90's and sunny! Just saying....

Thanks again for all your help!

Well then you have a good idea of what it's like here, lol.

We had family visiting NC last week. They spent several days at Carolina Beach so I guess they picked a good week to go since it sounds pretty chilly there now.

Have a great trip!

WDBRDWLK, we live in Raleigh, work in Cary, and will be going to DL in early May also. From my three trips last year, you can count on cool mornings, usually sunny and warmer around lunch and early afternoon, then very cool in the evenings. You will not need a jacket all day long, but enough in the morning and evening to be sure and take one. I almost always leave mine on a ride at some point and then get to visit Lost and Found every trip.

I usually wear crop pants, t-shirt, and either a windbreaker or hoodie. Yes, they have May Gray and then June Gloom. You will not experience any humidity unless there is a ton of rain. The weather for our trip last May was just delightful, but we were there a little later in the month. I do recall several times that we went back to our villa and changed for the cooler evening air.

Have a great trip. You will love VGC, I think it is the nicest of all the DVC resorts.

Thanks, WDBRDWLK, for the topic. I'll be there about the same time and coming from Texas, the weather sounds wonderful. We don't get much of spring. I always find it funny that I'm in shorts and and T-shirt and everyone else is bundled up.

Isn't it a small world after all! We have probably driven by each other on I-40 or walked past each other in the malls!

We have loved the fall weather at DL and decided to try spring this year. We are on the Disney Dream in November! We love VGC! There is nothing like walking into CA and getting in line for Grizzly River Rapids, getting soaked and then going back to the villa to change clothes and head back into the park, all in about 15 minutes!

We learned to wear flip flops when riding GRR to keep our sneakers or sandals from getting ruined.

Gotta ask ya...which airline are you flying? and did you get a good rate?

Our spring is usually short before we jump right into summer...so I will have clothes for both seasons packed.

Really looking forward to riding Space Mountain this time...In November we were in line and it got shut down. The track is different at WDW. Last time I rode it at DL was during the Halloween overlay.

I have been in March, April, May, September, October, and December. It always seems like I am in a sweater and freezing my butt off at night no matter when I have been. The first time we went in May we didn't expect it to be as cold as it was, we had to buy heavier jackets in the parks. Of course I'm from Phoenix, AZ so I loooove the heat. Since you're staying on property you could always walk back for a blanket for the fireworks at night, or change into "night clothes".

We are flying into LAX on SW, and I booked it as soon as the window opened, so around $300 for the two of us. We are coming back on a red-eye out of Long Beach on jetBlue for the return, about $400 for the two of us. I booked the return fairly recently, so the rate could have been better. And, I guess good rates are a matter of opinion these days. I was glad to get what I did as the rates seem to be going up on a daily basis.

And yes, it is a small world. Funny, we are on the Dream in September. Will you be doing anything other than Disney while out in CA, any day trips?

Great advice on the blanket! I bought a really nice Mickey sweatshirt in November when I was there so I will probably bring that along with a sweater in case I need a little something extra.

Two years we participated in the CHOC walk in October and it was cold at 5am! But it was for a good cause! I had a lightweight sweatshirt for that trip but was still cold.

We don't have the heat in Alabama that you have in Arizona, but I was surprised at how cool it got in late May 2005 when we made our first DLR trip. Now we are planning our second in late May/early June this year and will hopefully be better prepared for the evening chill.

We booked our flights on SW into LAX and will plan on hiring a town car limo service to get to the GC. We paid about $700 total for airfare for the two of us...so I guess we both got the same rate... We have in the past taken the Disneyland Express bus but that was not as convenient as it is in WDW..
We have done two tours in LA the last couple of times we were out there. They were about $65 each. We were picked up at GC around 8am and taken to the bus depot where we bought our tickets and got on our tour bus. The tour bus left around 9am and off to LA! We enjoyed that with the exception of the farmer's market...which is nothing like it is here in Raleigh. Anyways, we got to get off the bus to see a live shoot of Law and Order, LA. That was pretty cool! It was on the streets in LA and our tour bus stopped and let us off for about 30 minutes. Got great pics of that! We went to the Kodak theater and walked down the Hollywood Blvd. Which if you are familiar with the movie Italian Job, was filmed right there where the escalators to the tunnels are. Love the movie! We then went to Santa Monica pier for a few hours before heading back to the resort, in which we arrived at about 8pm. I thought the tour was decent overall.

In noticing your DVC you look like you have as many as we do...we are kinda obsessed with Disney...our license plates are Disney related and our house is decorated Disney. :yay::yay::yay:

Maybe one of these days we can meet at Crabtree outside the Disney store!

We were there May 10th, 11th, and 12th last year. I believe I wore capri's and short sleeve shirts during the day and a light jacket at night. Looking back at the pictures of the kids... they had shorts, short sleeves, and kept their lightweight jackets on/off during the day.

HTH!:)

Now that April is here, it makes our trips seem so much closer, don't you think.

We will have to stay in touch and yes, meeting at the Disney Store would be fun. I met my best Disney friend there many years ago, and we still meet for lunch on a regular basis.

Since you are going the week before we are, be sure and leave some fun for us, o.k.?

I know...it is right around the corner and I can not wait! I checked the weather there today and it was 79 degrees!! Not too much different than here in Cary!

My DD just got back from a WDW honeymoon and the weather was not the best. They had a lot of rain. Who knew. But they had fun in the parks anyways! You just have to make the best of it...and like she said 'a rainy day at Disney is better than a day at work'

You can find me inside the Disney Store at least once a week!

I will be at DL the first week of May, too. Sounds like a few of us will be around.
