What is the TOTAL amount of taxes for rooms in Anaheim Resort?

I'm assuming the hotels charge sales tax as well as room tax surcharges? Also the resort fee?
Any info would be wonderful. I never really paid attention to this in years past, but IIRC I read years ago that it all totaled up to around 17%?
Thank you for any info with this!

At the Fairfield Inn, taxes and fees are one figure on the statement. We are staying mostly with miles this trip, and added two extra days on (Sunday and Monday) at our cost. For those days, the taxes and fees came to 14.73% of the room rate total.

With all the various government hands going in your pocket you're looking at 17.3% on top of your resort

Not exactly correct. The taxes and fees paid by the guest varies by hotel. Mine (FFI) came in at 14.73% for my dates, while the HOJO's taxes and fees for Jan 16 and 17 is 23.69%. That's quite a difference! [EDIT: The high HOJO rate was from a 3rd party site selling HOJO rooms. Explanation in post below.]

OP: In order to determine the actual percentage, you will need to begin a reservation process to see the cost breakdown. From there you can calculate what percentage of the total cost due are taxes and fees.

That's really odd, I've looked up all the taxes before and everything shows the Anaheim Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) at 15% and the Anaheim Tourism Improvement District (ATID) at 2% same as @figment_jii stated. On my Sheraton bill it showed a Resort Assessment Fee of .24¢ - I'm not sure if this is a Hotel fee or Convention Center Resort fee or what, for that amount I didn't care.

But if you saw a tax rate of nearly 24% something is wrong I'd say.

Sorry about that, at our hotel we only add the standard 15% hotel tax and the 2% ATID fee. We do not have any other resort fees, so there should have only been an extra 17% on top of your room rate. If you like, please DM me and I will be happy to take a look at the charges on your reservation.

The answer is:
It depends on several factors:
  • Is it a Disney owned hotel?
  • Is it a Value, Moderate, Luxury or Super Luxury Hotel? (They all have different tax rates)
  • Does the hotel charge for parking?
  • Does the hotel have a resort fee?
  • Does the hotel have its own shuttle service?
  • Does the hotel use ART as its shuttle service?
  • Is the hotel technically in Anaheim or Garden Grove?

Thanks! I went to double-check and discovered that I used an "Ad" link that resembles the HOJO. It costs a lot to reserve via 3rd party! They padded the taxes and fees, as well as tacked on an additional service fee. Here's the price comparison between your site and that 3rd party selling HOJO rooms:

2 Nights / Jan 16 and 17
2 Double Beds Non-Smoking - Free Internet In Room - Fridge

HOJO site: Room $338, Taxes and Fees $57.46, Total $395.46
www.reservationcounter.com site: Room $338, Taxes and Fees $96.93, Service Fee $7.99, Total $442.92

Thanks for coming along and clarifying, much appreciated.

Holy Wow! I've seen that site pop up too. Talk about padding the fees.

I checked the Sheraton for 1 night, $142.39 17% tax should be $24.21, they charge Taxes and Fees $55.67 plus Service Fee of $12.99, thats another 44.45 on top of the regular going rate. No wonder they pay google to be listed on the top of any search, they are making a killing. Sorry you got hit with that.

Though I'm not a BBB fan when a business has a 1 star rating like reservationcounter.com does you know something is wrong.

For my HOJO room (2 queen bed, superior room) I'm paying $1406.70 and the taxes are running me $239.16 so my grand total is $1645.85 which I though was fair for what I wanted the beginning of December.

Thank you, everyone! I appreciate the info.
Anaheim's occupancy tax is 15%, plus a 2.25% resort fee (paid to the city of Anaheim.

Travel down the road a bit...
Garden Grove (hotels down by Target) 14.25%
Santa Ana 11%
Orange 11%
Fullerton is 10%.
I totally agree. BUT you'd have to make sure you can drive and factor in cost of parking vs tax, and/or that there's a shuttle. We booked our next stay at the Hyatt and the room tax seems similar - about 17%. It's technically in Garden Grove, so I thought it would be lower, but it's not. However, the room cost is much cheaper than any of the places on Harbor or Katella, Ball, etc. Crossing my fingers as it's the first time for us staying there.

I was talking about this issue with my wife a few days ago and she acted pretty shocked, then told me that she got taken in by reservationcounter website too on our trip to San Diego. But eventually figured out it wasn't the actual hotel booking and after calling she was able to cancel it after we changed our route to SD.

Always call the hotel front desk before you book and ask about their current parking charge and if they have any additional fees. Some Disneyland area hotels charge up to 30 dollars per day for parking.
