What is the rule about saving a seat by the pool?

On my Dream cruise in May, there was at least one CM removing towels from chairs. I would always look for the CM on duty and wait until he uncovered a chair in the shade (I can't sit in the sun, but I have to be able to see the kids in the pool).
I agree with a PP--why would anyone want to sunbathe in the chaos that is the pool deck? It was so loud, I distinctly remember thinking to myself, "this is supposed to be relaxing???" : )

Seems like Disney would do very well to send a CM around at 8 to take stock of whats up there and again at 8:30 or 9 to remove items from chairs. .[/QUOTE said:
This is exactly what they should be doing every single morning.

I like the cubby idea....DCL are you listening??????;)
DCL recently added cubby holes for the Aquaduck. Not sure how many, but looked like there were about 25 of them. They were well used and seemed to be popular. We saw them on both the Dream and the Fantasy within the past couple of months.

Hopefully DCL is looking into expanding this to the pool deck, would help alot.

If your cruise is suffering from a plague of chair savers, be sure to let guest services or the cruise director know--that is what gets the result of the CMs removing all the "junk" from the chairs and sending it to lost and found. I've only seen it once, but they were merciless--EVERYTHING was removed from every chair that wasn't occupied and put in a box.

As to how the adult areas were on the Fantasy--the chairs by the pool tended to be full on our cruise, but we could always find a lounger in a "less popular" area. I didn't notice a lot of empty chairs sporting flip flops.

Hi. Last cruise, all the seats by the pools always seemed saved even though they were empty for over an hour! How long do I have to wait before I can move someone's belongings (usually a pair of flipflops that have been there all day) so I can enjoy the pool area, too?

What is the rule? The Golden Rule.

Simple. Applies to everything you do on the ship.

For those who choose not to act that way, Disney does have to spell out a lot of common courtesy as "rules" (saving seats at the pool/theater, dress appropriately for dinner, not hoarding things in the stores, quiet in the halls late at night, no cameras in the shows, be on time, don't smoke, tip you waiters,....). So sad they have to spell out any of that.

But just follow the Golden Rule, hope others do, and your vacation will be a dream.

My DH and I went on a Hawaiian cruise (different line) years before the kids came along. We would roll out of bed at 7:30 and move to pool loungers. We would doze off and on throughout the morning. We tried to be respectful of others and USE the chairs. If we were going to leave, it was for a short period of time (10 minutes) and in shifts. I would run for a dainish and coffee and then DH would take a turn. So, we are chair hogs but we USED the chairs. We also didn't hog the prime seats next to the pool, because I hate being awakened from a good nap by a pool splash! By getting there so early we could relax by the pool and get a great chair but were ready to leave by lunch. That way we vacated seats at the busy part of the day.

There was a family that would beat us to the pool each morning, sort of... We spent hours lounging next to flip flops and magazines but never saw the family until we were packing up for lunch:sad2:

I am afraid that the chair hog will always be an issue:(

If they're in the pool I wouldn't report them. the ones to report are the ones who hightail it up there in the morning and leave stuff on chairs so they can use them if they decide to go to the pool later on, and then just leave the stuff there all day.

Understand your point totally....however, cultures vary and what we may think is common courtesy, may not apply to people from different parts of the country or different countries around the world.

I remember my fist trip to Spain and Morocco when I was about 22 years old in college. I learned that the Moroccan did NOT share America's sense of 'personal space'. We were standing in line for tickets and people were inside my 'bubble'. I was like, "get off of me! Back off!!" LOL I looked around and everyone was standing ceek-to-jowl.

Why do they have to be nebulas?! Extended period of time? Is that 10 minutes or 30 minutes or an hour? Why not just say, "Any chair not occupied for more than 10 minutes is considered 'available'" so there is no debate.

I have the same issue with the dress code. Just spell it out and don't leave people to guess. Actually, I think they have gotten a little more specific in recent years. And yet ever other day someone asks about what to wear for dinner. LOL

I wouldn't consider you a chair hog! If you are using it, good for you. You can use it all day. But it is people who think those chairs are for their items to sunbathe on that gets me all riled up.:furious: (that is a great little smilie!)

Years ago, I was at the Quiet Cove pool with my wife. 3 people (I will call them the Suitcase Family, because they were too tan already) were next to us. It was a very crowded day. About lunchtime, they got up to go get lunch at Lumiere's. We know this because the Suitcases were VERY LOUD. However, they did not want to give up their seats. They left a flip flop on each of two chairs and a bottle of suntan lotion on the other.

We moved it all to one chair when they left. :stir:

In minutes, a couple arrived, asked if the seats were taken and we said "No! Help yourself!" So they did.

About 90 minutes later, the Suitcases came back. Their reaction was priceless. The daughter was the most angry, but she didn't know who to be angry at. "Did anybody move our stuff? These were our chairs!"

Everybody nearby looked up, shrugged... "Nope, not me." :rolleyes1 Back to tanning, reading and drinking. The daughter angrily occupied the lone remaining chair for a few minutes then left.

sounds good to me.:thumbsup2

I agree that putting a shoe on a chair to "reserve" for some time in the future it is a hog. It's rude and the items should be moved. I agree that if you are in the pool or taking a pee break, sure I wouldn't begrudge you your chair however....

I am a single adult. Let's say I'm cruising alone and have no one to watch my stuff and let's throw in there that I'm lactose intolerant. Should my stuff get to sit on a lounger for 30 minutes or an hour because I ate half the cheese display?

Here is my point - I wouldn't leave my stuff alone at all, ever. It's like the airport. Even before 9-11, I wouldn't dream of just leaving my purse on a seat in the boarding area with my suitcase because I had to use the bathroom. I would wheel my big bag and all my stuff with me because I wouldn't want it to be stolen! I'm by myself, I have no one to watch it, I take it with me.

I would think being at the pool is even easier, especially for the single traveler. You can stick your key card in your suit. What else do you have? Sunscreen? A Kindle? Flip flops and a coverup? You can put that in a handy tote and take it with you. I wouldn't expect if I left to go to the bathroom to have my seat back anymore than I would at the airport.

I guess I have a hard time understanding the attachment issues to furniture.

I was on the Magic and a woman moved another family's belongings so she could sit and watch her child in the pool. The owner of the belongings came back and SCREAMED at the woman, calling her a thief, went and got a CM, filed a complaint, etc. The woman who moved the things just sat in the chair and read her book. The owner of the belongings never did sit in any of the other 4 chairs that held her things.

So yes, confrontations do happen.

Wowza... I guess that proves that you can dress some people up but you clearly can NOT take them out! Our family usually does the family chair thing..we throw everything on to one chair and one of us usually ends up sitting in the one chair a bit... when the other members come up we just sit on the end....

Thanks for this. I'm going to print a whole bunch up and stuff 'em in the flip-flops and books left on chairs for hours!

Don't be someone who finds one of these in YOUR flip-flops!!
