What is the Room ready policy?

Hi,
We are using my parents points for a 10 night stay starting February 22. We are doing 5 nights at Vero and 5 nights at VWL. I have been reading in some posts about a room ready policy and I was wondering if someone could explain this policy to me.

Thanks,

Cygnus

This is my understanding....

You can request to have an early arrival and maybe your room will be ready. All DVC will guarantee is that you can be in your room before the usual 4 o'clock check in.

This past November, I had requested an early arrival for a 12:30 check in. The room was not ready. We ate lunch at Beaches and Creme and then tried again around 1: 30. Still not ready. So, we decided to go on to AK. We arrived back at 5. Now, the room was ready, but we could not calculate exactly when the room might have actually been available.

This is the way Jackie Leuders explained it to me:

Rooms are not pre-assigned by reservation date as before. When you arrive, they will attempt to find a room that meets at least one of requests that is ready for occupancy. If you don't like that room, you can return to check-in later to see if there are any rooms that are ready that meet your requests. The object was to try to get people into ready rooms as early as possible.

I don't think they are using the "room ready" system as they described all the time. I think there would be chaos at the front desk if people kept returning all day to see what rooms were available. The two times I have checked in since it started, our room was pre-assigned. It seems like some rooms are pre-assigned but they will also search other rooms to find one that is ready. It is important to note your requests on your reservation because I think if there are no requests, they leave those unassigned until check-in.

Hi, cygnus. Since the policy has already been described, I won't go into that.
I do not see any evidence of the new "room ready" policy. On our last visit we had two check-ins (VB & VWL). Both times we waited until 4:00 to get a room (I am not complaining about that, I'm just stating the fact). If the room ready policy were in effect at these two resorts, I would think we would have been offered a room prior to 4:00, since we were there for check-in before 11:00.
At VWL, the cast member said: "Your rooms were pre-assigned a couple of days ago by me. I am the room assigner."

Personally, I like the old way of pre-assigning rooms much better.

Have fun at VB and VWL! You obviously have superb taste!! ;)

When I checked in to BCV at 10:45am on December 7, they certainly seemed to be using "room ready". I have no idea if any room had been preassigned to me. They gave me a choice of 2 rooms, both of which they described the views (since neither was my request, Courtyard, but no Courtyard studios were available)-not just saying "Epcot view", but describing that in one, I'd see more of Canada, and the other more overlooked Spaceship Earth. And while someone at VWL said they couldn't be told if the room was HA, when I asked, the CM typed something in the computer, read, then said "No-not HA". Worked perfectly in my case.

Thanks for the clarification. It sounds like Room Ready was put in place to get people into their rooms sooner but it doesn't appear to be working based on your experinces. We have been to OKW twice before and Port Orleans once. We had to wait forever one time at OKW and at Port Orleans. Oh well at least our two DS's are now 7 and 5 so it's not like we need the room for naps or anything. I'm just looking forward to trying out two new resorts.

Thanks again,

Cygnus

I have stayed at BWV 2x and BCV 1x since the new room ready policy went into effect. All three times my room was not pre assigned and I was given a choice of rooms. During my 2 stays at BWV since the new policy, we got into our villa between 10:30-11:30 AM. At BCV our villa was not ready until 3:00 PM. I personally like the new policy and so far it has worked very successfully for us.

When I checked in on my trip in Dec to VWL I was told my preassigned room wasn't ready but they had another in the same category that met my requests--non-smoking/non-handicap--so would I take that one instead of the preassigned one. I did as I had just finished driving almost 9 hours. I asked about the room ready policy at the general meeting for VWL and was told it's there for when the members' rooms aren't ready. I would imagine if a person has no requests then the room assigned is the one available when all the requests have been made--or attempted as some are harder to fill than others. Supposedly they try to make all the "medical" requests first. After that I don't know if smoking request is higher than view request. . . Regardless, I had a different room than they had assigned me but it met my 2 requests.

I posted this to another post but it belongs here too:

We were just at the VWL and the BCV over Christmas and New Year's. At the VWL they looked at me like I had two heads when I mentioned room ready and I posted that on this board at the time. None of our requests were met (except the most important, non smoking) and we had to wait until 4:00 P.M. for our preassigned room. It was a great room though and we were happy to be at Disney.

When we moved to the BCV for New Year's, room ready was how they were doing things. Got into my room early and they were able to switch me out of one that did not meet my requests and into one that did that was available early.

So how they determine who uses room ready and who doesn't must be like a big double secret.

Yes, this is exactly the way it happened for us on our October trip to VWL.

Oh well, I like the pre-assigned policy better anyway...
