What is the purpose of the hand stamp for re-entry?

At DL we had to get our hand stamped if we planned to return to the park a 2nd time during the same day. Yet, they still required us to show our tickets & have them scanned for re-entry. I can understand needing to scan the tickets again as a form of crowd management & monitoring, but if they're going to scan the tickets anyway, what's the point of getting your hand stamped?

to prove the ticket belongs to you. If they didn't require a hand stamp people would use a ticket they found on the ground or ask people when they are leave if they could have or buy there ticket at a discounted rate.

Ah, got it. My mind doesn't work that way apparently lol. So this is to prevent people from giving away or selling their tickets at a reduced rate after they've already used them for the day.

Yes, that is one of the reasons. Since they do not have the ability to scan the ticket itself on the way out of the parks to let them know someone has left with that ticket, someone could theoretically have two people go into DL, one person leave with both tickets and get their own hand stamped, then re-enter with a third person waiting outside the gates on hte second ticket. And so on. The hand stamp says someone already entered the park. Disney knows if a ticket was already scanned at the turnstiles so has been used to enter the park. The hand stamp lets them connect a person who has already entered with a ticket that was already used to enter.

It's also a method they use on very busy days. For example, I have an AP, so there's no way anyone could use my ticket, but on busy days they still require me to get a hand stamp on the way out. Should they have to restrict entry due to crowds, they have a tiered system on who can come in. They may allow people to re-enter if you've already been there that day, but they will prevent "new" entries.

Kind of un-related, but does anybody else try to see the picture in the stamp, besides me?? Also, I like the smell!! :rotfl:

you know whats funny? I have never been asked to show a hand stamp with AP...not even when it was to the point that they werent selling one day tickets due to max crowds...thats weird:confused3

People could enter the park then sneak their ticket to someone through the gates allowing another to enter. Hand stamp prevents this.

I have had to get my hand stamped on busy days with my AP but when re-entering have not been asked to show my hand stamp.

On extremely busy days, they will remind AP holders to get a handstamp. This is so if they go to a "readmit only" level of closure, you would have one. They don't ask to see if unless the park hits that level. NYE I almost always get asked. But rarely any other time.

So interesting. At WDW they have the finger scanners to prevent this. much more low tech (and probably reliable!) with the hand stamp.

Always!! The first thing I do is try to read it or figure out what it is supposed to be! When I go it is usually a name (Goofy, Ariel, etc.)

Yesterday when we were at the park, my husband and I didn't have our handstamps show up very well at all under the flashlight when we re-entered. My husband just had a faint spot, and mine was gone!

The woman at the gate mentioned that sunscreen sometimes washes it off. She was really kind and let us in, but I thought I would just pass on the information.

Yah, the WDW finger scanners seem to be sufficiently unreliable that it slows people getting into the parks in the morning thru the turnstiles. And when the scanner rejects you what do the CM's do? They let you in anyways.

I guess nothing is perfect but there are rumors that the biometric scanners are coming to DLR in the near future.

A CM deadpanned to me that there was magic in the handstamp that will make everything in your life better.

I always get one, just in case. :rotfl:

Kinda makes sense but wouldn't Disney know that your AP has already been scanned earlier in the day?

Wonder why they don't go to the finger scan like at WDW?

OPPS........guess I should have read the entire thread before I posted ;)
