What is the purpose of the DVC Guide?

We bought resale and never went through a guide to get our points. We did however call requesting info about DVC a few years ago and were "assigned" a guide. Whenever we refer someone, that guides name is listed at the bottom of the page as our guide. I don't mind having this person as our guide but what exactly is this persons job? Why is having a guide significant?

Thanks,
jabear

DVC Guide = DVC Salesperson

Unless you want to buy an add-on through Disney or you want to refer a friend, there's no reason ever to be in contact with your DVC Guide.

Yep! ::yes::

It is how Disney personalizes the relationship between a member or potential member and their sales staff. They would like you to have a single point of contact. Overall the guides that I have met have been very nice. Ours, Byron, is a classic gentleman.

I have had 3 DVC guides. I have purchased 3 times (original and 2 resales) and have NEVER met any of them. I spoke with my first guide on the phone, never talked with the second and spoke with the third only to inquire about the SSR incentive.
I think some folks get veryattached to their guide. You can never have too many friends.

I agree! A guide is just a salesman. A guide in Disneyspeak means salesman

A guide is a sales person, DVC is always looking to get add ons.

However a guide is also a contact person. Someone to go to if you have any questions, and don't know who to ask. Call your guide they would be more then happy to help you.

However if you are online the Dis DVC community works well too. (however every DVC member doesn't know about us............yet.)

We wanted to make some changes in our financing arrangement a few years ago. (We increased our automatic monthly payment to pay off more quickly.) Our guide connected us to exactly the right party in Finance and stayed on the line to make sure we were getting the service we needed. This is where the guide is helpful: purchasing and financing points. Other matters are better handled by Member Services.

We have had 4 guides over the years. Our first one got promoted, and then later came back to the sales force. Our second (the one we actuallly purchased from) quit Disney as did our third. I can't even remember the name of our current one!

Boy, you're right there! I was just telling my boss last Friday to not plan on going down to DL to talk DVC over the weekend because Tommy had changed his schedule this week and her response was 'You know your guide's work schedule?!?'

And, yes, we do. And we knew why he changed it, too.

As veterans of timeshare presentations both in the US and Mexico, we appreciate the difference between Disney and 'all those others.'

And you can never have enough friends!

Our guide has also become a good friend. We talk or visit with him each time we go to WDW and he has always been willing to help us find answers for any questions we have. We've purchased 3 contracts from him.

Byron is the guide I spoke to on the phone, to set up my DVC visit, prior to going to WDW.
I took the tour at SSR and bought that day. Karen was the guide who did the tour and my paperwork.

Byron is listed as my "official" guide, but I have Karen's card, too. They both seem very nice.

We have had the same guide, Celeste for many years even though we didn't purchase until 2002. I have spoke with her many times about purchasing, add-ons, referrals, suggestions and even a reference! She has also called several times and spoke with myself or DH and it's rarely a 2-minute discussion. I am happy Celeste is my guide and look forward to speaking with her. Annmarie

Thanks to all for the responses. I like the guide we were assigned and she seems to do just fine.

DVCajun, did you buy that bracelet or did you make it. I remember seeing it on ebay and thought it was a clever item. If I remember correctly, it is made of old typewriter keys. Now that is neat! A DVC one is in order.

We called our guide, Gib, when we had an emergency the night before we were to leave on our DVC trip over a year ago. We didn't have insurance, we didn't know how to cancel the ressie (at Disneyland thru points) and he helped us. Got us in touch with who we needed to talk to. Member services were closed but he was working so we thought we would try him. I was pleased with his help. We purchased our original points thru him and 1 add-on. I really don't think he would remember us. he only saw us once when we toured. We purchased later and did the add-on later. I don't think he helped because he knew us but because he was our guide and genuinely wanted to help after we explained the situation and circumstances. I wouldn't hesitate to tell others to call him for anything DVC related. He is a good guy. :earsgirl:

We loathe our guide, have tried to get rid of him several times, but seem to be wedded for life. We will *NEVER* refer any one as long as he is our guide.

We're in the same boat, but ours can't be the same...it's a "she". I laugh because others have mentioned that guide=salesperson and you contact them when you want to add-on. We did exactly that a few months ago and our guide never bothered to return one of our several phone calls. Go figure.
