Curse this thread!!! We planned on getting resale first, and adding on direct later, but this thread made it seem so easy to get direct, we obsessed over it for two months. After this thread popped up in May, we got a Disney Visa for the 6-month free financing (just in case, we weren't decided yet). After getting other finances straightened out, we pulled the trigger Thursday and got 150 Rivera points.
1) We cold called a guide, I basically explained that we wanted to buy 150 Riviera points with a March use year. His words were "I think we can do that."
2) He checked to see if we were in the system. My wife was because she signed up a few years ago when looking at Boardwalk. He emailed us both a link to update our contact information. We did this before discussing anything.
3) He went through his normal sales pitch, was very nice, but he could tell we had our minds made up, and we had done research.
4) He got all of our information and explained that we were going to get two emails in the next couple of hours. The first email was a link to Docusign to sign our documents. When we got this link, we were to call an number to have someone go over them with us as we signed. The second link was a one-time activation code to set up our DVC account. We got each of those within a couple of hours, but decided to call the next day.
5) As for payment I explained that I wanted to pay by credit card, but pay up to a certain amount on the Disney Visa and the remaining amount on another card. We are going to pay off the other card immediately and take advantage of the 6 months zero interest on the Disney card. He said they normally split payments because they can only process up to $10k per day. He offered to spread the payments one per week, but I asked if he could just charge one each day, and he said no problem. So one charge was made Thursday, one Friday, and one on the other card on Monday.
6) Other than some minor chit chat with the guide about DVC, that was about it on Thursday.
7) On Friday, we called them back to go over signing the documents. They sent my wife and I each a link to access Docusign. My wife and I were on speakerphone and each had a tablet so that we could sign our own names as we reviewed each page together. Similar to buying a house but much faster. This whole process took about 15 minutes. We did have to take pictures of our driver's licenses and upload them, but you can easily do that with a tablet or phone.
8) After signing, we created our DVC account by using the one-time activation code and
MDE login. Super easy. My wife got her own card number, so she had to call member services to get her one-time activation code.
9) Points were in the system as soon as we logged in.
10) Apparently they are saying it will take 4-6 weeks for the deed to record.
Overall, I got the feeling that they made it super easy and comfortable on purpose. After reading these boards and doing my homework, I also got the impression they were not used to people knowing as much as I did going in. This was based on the fact that the guide was surprised I knew what the point discount amount and estimated pro-rated MF was.
All in all, we were quite happy with the experience, but curse you whoever started this thread as this directly impacted our decision LOL! My wife says thanks tho! And thanks to all the helpful posters who were spot on.
