What is the ONE thing you would change about DVC, DVC rules?

I guess it’s good that it leaves the HA rooms available for those who need them, unless someone who doesn’t need one books it intentionally because all the others are gone.
100% this room would be booked by the first person who saw it as the only option. Maybe some people would leave it open, but no way it stays open for long if it's the last studio standing.

Yes, that’s a good way to explain it. Normally we called at 11 months from checkout, but when we needed both a 2BR and a studio for a trip with my parents, we called day by day starting 11 months from checkin. So we weren’t walking, we were booking one day at a time for dates we actually wanted.
Yup Not walking, just extending the reservation. It was much better than walking a reservation. But maybe I'm just nostalgic.

1. Eliminate forced room checks for owners with a positive stay history

2. Priority dining reservations at our home resort when we are booked in our name ( 75 days out )

3. Guaranteed room availability at 3pm for rooms booked at least 7 months out ( they know we are arriving )

4. Shopping items sent back to hotel from the parks like they used to do.

None of these would cost a significant amount.

You had to book your reservation day by day and you could fail to extend your reservation each time. Much worse than what we currently have in my opinion.
Not to mention people that have to wake up early for this in a different timezone, what an inconvenient nightmare

I would love to see package delivery come back. But this should be for all Resorts not just DVC. But as a DVC perk that would be great.

Not that bad :) but I can see peoples point. We never had a walking problem back then. But like others have said, competition was not as bad either. I have seen other proposals like when you cancel 1 day of your res, then you cancel the whole res. Or the points go into some sort of timeout. I dont particularly like those either. Walking is a consequence of the current reservation rules. We always go for a 1 or 2 br villa, so I dont think we are as impacted by walking as the other room types like studios.

I would love to see commercial renters eliminated. I think this may make a lot of other issues with availability go away.

I hear ya! I am a morning person, and getting up to make the call was not a problem. I am always the first one up and have learned to be careful and give everyone their space! My oldest DD once complained "MOM Dad is in My MORNING!!!"

I love a couple of suggestions seen above. The drop down friends and family list that autofills on reservations would be really nice, I love using that when booking flights. Also, a guarantee to not ever being assigned to a HA room without selecting it. I absolutely loathe those rooms.

It would be cool to see some home resort priority too. Room requests prioritized, ability to book restaurants there at 61 days out maybe.

The other things that really bug me tap more into just the selfish nature of people and I'm not sure how to fix that without really impacting stuff as a whole in a worse way. For example, the chair hoarding at the pools, especially Aulani. I personally wouldn't mind them giving out clips or something you could attach to your chair when you check in. It would at least limit how many you could reserve. Drove me nuts to just want one or two chairs for my family, and people had entire rows taken.

We could do a whole thread on people acting like entitled spoiled brats. It is getting worse I'm afraid. I love your suggestions!

If I could change one thing it would be to discourage people walking reservations months in advance. I would like it if you were limited to 3 changes per reservation. That 4th one should be a new booking. Walkers cause too much frustration in the booking process.

I can’t prove it but I believe people are overestimating the effect of walking and underestimating the scarcity of rooms during some periods. If it is a walker moving through, a waitlist should deliver the rooms once the walkers have moved past. If it’s people actually competing for the same rooms, you would need a different system to resolve the competition if you outlaw walking.

It's also commercial renters for popular times. But that topic is for another thread.

I agree.
Personally I’m walking a reservation for May dates, if I hadn’t I most likely wouldn’t get the room.

Competing for 50 rooms is difficult win, especially if you only had one shot to do it. By walking I get more shots and a bigger chance of getting my room.

The dates I don’t need people can book when I walk by.
