Yes, they do it every morning, although it's a bit different on EMH mornings.

Basically, it's a show to welcome everyone to the MK -- the characters and some singers and dancers arrive on the WDW railway. The "Mayor" of Main Street welcomes everyone, and there's a song (of course, because this is Disney :p ) and then one lucky family is picked to throw the pixie dust and officially open the MK. The whole crowd counts down, and then the ropes drop and there is a mad rush for Space Mountain!

And it is a MUST see IMO!!!! It got me so emotional and all of us were even MORE excited to get into MK after it!!! It's the perfect way to start your time in the parks! ::yes::

We saw it for the first time on our last trip and really enjoyed it! We had no idea they did that so it was quite a surprise for us. Also, just to add... the characters who arrive on the train then disperse among the town square for "meet and greet". We arrived about 20 min. prior to opening on a non-emh day.

so they let you in the turnstiles but not into the whole park-where do they open the ropes? how early should we get there? give the low-down-i'm not missing this!

They only opened the gates about 5-10 min. before 9am. We had time to walk to Tomorrowland and then wait for the CM to "lead" us into the area.

They let you through the security checkpoints and through the turnstiles, but the hold everyone up outside the tunnels to go under the train-tracks. There isn't really a bad place to see this from, we saw it twice while we were there, and I have a very sweet picture of my DS and DD watching all the characters on the train in front of the "hidden mickey" flower bed. It's my favorite pic from our whole trip! This is one of the shows that gets me misty when we see it! A must see in my book. I'm still trying to find out how to be the family to throw the pixie dust.
