what is the maximum pointas that a DVC 'er can have ?

Disney is giving away 5,000 DVC points as a prize in Year of a Million Dreams.. and personally I'd rather have that then a night in the castle. It's the gift that keeps on giving!

At some point a while back I checked how many points it would be to stay for a whole year. At the time it was just over 5,000 -- 5,114 for a studio at OKW. I figured they did that so that no one could have enough points to stay all year (at that rate, renting 114 points from someone else probably wouldn't be a big deal) However, now when I check .. it looks like AKV is less?? 4,507 for a studio Animal Kingdom Villas (Value)

Our DVC rep told us that there are members that stay nearly all year. But by the regulations in FL. your not allowed to. 11 months max, then you have to leave for a month.

I don't think that's a State of FL rule but a Disney rule. Likely to keep someone from claiming homestead or to avoid some of the eviction rules. It has nothing to do with FL residency, that I can tell you.

I have it on pretty good authority that 2000 points is the most anyone can have in any one Resort and 5000 is the total they can own period under any one name. Remember; if you owned 5000 points your maintenance fees would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000 a month.

I think we have heard of some people (or is it groups of people) who have access to 10,000 points, but I have never seen anything higher than a 1000 point contract on the resale market.

In all seriousness, I know plenty of people who own $500k - $1 million dollar "second homes". By the time they pay taxes, insurance, utilities, maintainence, repairs, furniture, household services, landscaping services, etc.... They spend much more than $25k a year in expenses for the right to own a "second" home. Heck, $500k for year round at BCV ain't bad.

Wow, nice to have those kind of friends... LOL I only hear "stories" of people with million dollar second homes. :)

Depends on where. In San Diego county, a newly purchased $500k house would have a $5k tax assessment.

Yes, but what kind of house would that give you in SD County? a broom closet!

My parents have a house in Lake Tahoe valued today at close to a million. They bought it in the 70's for a fraction of that amount (and I mean a fraction) and they thought of selling it to buy something at the beach but the property tax swing was outrageous so they really cannot sell it. Catch 22 but a nice Catch 22

now this.. I would love to win !

Just for fun, here's a chart showing how many points it would take to stay in a DVC resort for all of 2008 (Jan 1st - Dec 31)

Note that every year is slightly different due to the way weekdays/weekends fall within the specific Disney seasons. So 2009 would be different.

It's a low of 4521 points for an AKV 'value' room, or a high of 36,444 points for a BWV Grand Villa.:cool1:

DVC Points for every resort/room/view category there is for the current DVC resorts, for staying all year, 2008.

Chart created using DVC-Planner program.

Great chart, Caskbill!

Request ... could we see the same chart showing $$$ instead? (Dues per Resort * Points as shown? Granted, we only have the 2007 rates available ... but it would still provide an interesting picture.)

Thank you for posting the informative chart!

So...............AKV value studio for a year..............$1740.59/month...............sounds pretty good.....:rolleyes1
(If I "overlook" the initial purchase price.......... )

OK, where do I sign up for that prize!!!

I have no idea what POINT amount Disney is giving away but they are giving away a DVC membership with FULL dues paid to a winner of the " Million Dreams Year"

I thought it was either the 160 or 220 it point terms . I don't know why I think its those numbers though! :confused3

Yes, but here's what they do:
2,000 pts. in husband's name
" in wife's name
" in joint names
" in each child's name
" in family trust

and so on , and so on.

And Diane was correct, it was just a few months ago that it was discovered one family had about a ka-zillion points with most of them being used for rental purposes. I won't mention the name because I don't think we need to go down that path again. But bottomline -- if you want to keep buying points, there are several ways to do it.

Okay, sign me up for this prize...it's got my name written all over it....fell in love with Disney years, and years ago watching The Wonderfull World of Disney every weekend(believe it was Sunday nights at around 7:00 pm)...then fell in love with WDW on my honeymoon 06/76....been going ever since!!! I would love to own more of DVC....Genie...are you out there? I'll even take this as my three wishes...easy job for you, grant one wish and be done!!! Okay, how about you Tink or Peter? Can you sprinkle lots of Pixie Dust my way? Oh, pretty please....Okay, how about the Year of a Million Dreams Squad.....can you pick me and throw some points my way? Well, this is what Dreams are made of! Good luck to all!

Edit....I think the WWofD was probably more like around the 5 or 6 time slot......I've got a great idea...why don't they show re-runs of those shows on the Disney channel now....it was such a great family together time for my family...my Mom, Dad, and two sisters would all sit together and watch it (sometimes even my three cousins who lived next door would come in and watch it with us too!)!!!!!!

hey  calypso*a*go-go !!! how have you been ?? Any trips planned in the near future ???

Hey guys, that DVC giveaway would be great if it was 5000 points, but it's really only 220 points.

Yeah, I'd take it too! I'd wonder if they let you choose the resort or if it's at SSR? I'm betting no choice. If there was a choice, I'd be adding it to my AKV!
