I am really curious if anyone has stayed in their campers at FW for a very extended time?? My dh and I were talking and dreaming about how cool it would be to stay there for a month or two.. heck - or three! Has anyone done anything for a long period of time? And if so, then what was your expeirence? :wizard:

sorry - our longest was 14 days. that was blissful though. i know there has to be some snow birds (back when they offered the super low extended stay winter rates) here who have dropped anchor for a long winter's nap.

How much is FW per night in the winter say Jan-March?

I am one! Wife and I have stayed from five weeks to three months since retirement during the winter months. One advantage of being old. We are but two of hundreds of snowbirds who winter there. Since winter special was discontinued, our stays have of necessity got shorter each year.

There is a poster somewhere that did this in 2005 I believe.

I cannot remember who it was. They had AP's and they did it b/c their home was being remodeled by the dad and camping got them out of the house for 2 months so that he could finish the work.

They had an excellent time. But I do think they had a bigggg camper. And I think it was cheaper/easier than their other options.

DH and I are leaving this Friday. Taking our time driving down...then spending 2 days in the Jacksonville area before starting our winter vacation at FW. We will be arriving Jan. 16, staying for 6 wks in a preferred pet loop. We will be easy to spot.....Just look for the 5th wheel towed by a semi tractor with the name South Ridge Belgians on the door. (and lime green mickeys in the window) Anyone is welcome to drop by and say hello!

I spoke with many folks that are there long term over the winter when I was there for 10 nights in December. Most folks arrive early November and leave mid February. That is the longest time with the least expensive rates.

Most of November is Value season, then you have a few weeks of "pre-holiday" season, then only a week or two of "holiday" season, then back to value season till mid February. Then it jumps up to peak season.

So going january to march, half of your stay would be at peak season.

I even met a couple that work at Ft. Wilderness a couple days a week while they are there to help pay for their play :-)

The guy parked at the site next to us said they were leaving in April. We spoke to him today but never asked when he arrived. Judging by the Christmas lights he has up I would say he has been here a bit.

I only get to go for a week:sad2: , but my parents go for a month every winter. Since they are both retired, they take the pop-up and head down (sometime at the beginning of Feb) and arrive at WDW for the month of Feb and stay until after ESPN the Weekend. This year, we are going for a week, my aunt (DDad's sister) is going for a week, my Dsister's family is going for a week and my DBrother and his wife (who live in FL) are going for the ESPN weekend. What a life!:dance3:
