I was wondering if anyone knows the going rate for summer school tutors?

I am planning on getting a math tutor for DS who will be entering the 3rd grade next year. I know there are several teachers at his school who are tutoring this summer. Before I approach one of them I want to have an idea of how much the going hourly rate is.

Anyone know?

It really depends, but my knowledge is that tutoring costs between $20 and $40 an hour.

My DD had a math tutor, she was older, the tutor was a math teacher and she charged $40/hour.

I've paid between $25 and $30 an hour for a tutor - cash.

I pay 60.00 for the hour. I guess tutors are expensive around here. But, worth every penny when my dd brings home the 100 on the test.

$50 for a tutor that is well trained in the subject area.

I've paid $45 an hour in the past for a specialized LD tutor. Worth her weight in gold.

I don't tutor but one of my teammates does.

We're elementary school teachers. She charges $40.00 per hour.

These prices are kind of crazy to me lol. When I was very very young I was told I needed a tutor (I didn't) but anyway I got one and it cost nothing lol. But then again, our town is EXTREMELY small and not many things are that expensive, most volunteer. I am currently tutoring two kids (sixth grade and fourth grade). I tutor one for math and one for reading and writing. Both I do for free. I couldn't imagine charging to help a student better understand something. I don't think you can really put a price tag on better education. But again, that is just me. lol. ;)

I take this tutoring experience as a possitive thing because after I graduate college I plan on becoming an English teacher for the high school or college level...

I suppose this post is more of opinion and doesn't really answer your question lol  . Sorry for getting off topic lol.

Wow! I'm considering doing some tutoring this summer and I'm amazed at the going rate! I was thinking of charging about $15! Wow!

Around here for someone going into the 3rd grade a tutor would be about $10 for 1/2 hour, high school MIGHT be $15 for 1/2 hour. These would be certified school teachers doing some tutoring over the summer.

Wow! I thought $25-30 an hour was high but $60 yikes!

Thanks for letting me know what you have paid. I was talking to another parent last night and she told me that our teachers are tutoring for $50 an hour this summer. She did say that they will come to our house for the tutoring.

A friend of mine in Southern CA is a middle school teacher and she tutors both middle and high school (AP test prep). She charges 90/hour! And she has 8 clients! I'm also a teacher, and am thinking if I don't get a teaching job in our new town, I may start tutoring. Sure as you know what is more profitable than teaching:)
