What is the Fantasmic Dessert Buffet?

I've been to disneyland many times . But it has been 5 years. I dont remember anything about Fantasmic i've been reading about on this forum. What is it and where? I'm going in September with my 12 year old son. Is this a must to do ? thanks jill

I just bumped a thread that should answer your questions.
We'll be down there next week and I was fortunate to get tickets for our group. I think it is somewhat subjective as to whether it's worth it or not. I really feel that it's the best way for us to see Fantasmic without having to sacrifice hours to get good viewing. It's a pretty big chunk of change ($56 per person) so you'll need to decide if you want to spend that much.
Take a look at the thread I bumped and you should get a better idea.

i have never done it, but it is my understanding that the dessert buffet is exactly that: a dessert buffet that is accessible to paying guests just before the fantasmic show which takes place in frontierland. it includes special "seating" with the cost. the whole thing takes place on a balcony that overlooks the lagoon where the show takes place. i have never seen the fantasmic show in dl, but the one in wdw is phenominal, and i am told that the one in dl is even better with a more intimate viewing section. but woe to the wary guest who tries to use that area to get from one land to another just before the show! it is a log jam. take the extra steps and go thru fantasy land. incidentally, i plan to do the dessert buffet while at dl in october if it is running.

The price for the balcony seating has gone up to $56 per person. I would assume this means the river view seats went up as well.

wow, up again? Yes, the baclony and the riverside seating are the same price, but riverside gives a $10 discount for kids.

Hi Jill...We just got back from vacationing at DL and we did the Fantasmic Desert Buffet our first night there (7/9). We really enjoyed it! You can help yourself to all the goodies you want You can choose from cakes, pastries, cookies, fruit kabobs and an assortment of beverages including non-alcoholic Mint Juleps, lemonade, coffee and more. The seating is terrific...you're right in the middle of the action. We found Mary Jo's link very helpful. Hope this helps

Was it worth the money? I enjoyed Fantasmic at MGM, and I would like my Dad to see it, since he's never been to the one in MGM... my Dad is 72, and looking at the pictures, it seems the only way to actually get seating is by booking the buffet. So, If I did it, it would be more for the chair than the buffet, and I can't see paying that much for something that was free in MGM.

I know what you mean. We've got 7 tickets for Tuesday night and it is a lot of money. I've heard nothing but good about it and I figured it's the only way we will be able to see the show without camping out for a few hours to get good seats.
We're doing it for the first time on Tuesday so I'll let you know next week when we get home.
