Hi everyone,

It has been a while since we stayed at BW so I am not fresh on directions and where things are. Can someone tell me the easiest supermarket to get to from the BW, other than Goodings? I know exactly where that market is but I have heard it is so expensive that we don't want to go there. Any other recommendations/directions?

Thanks!

Hi!Can't really tell you how to get to the supermarket, but I did find the ones close by are very expensive!! You are better off just buying at the resort.:)

If you have a car, it isn't very far. If you are familiar with the property, make your way to the road by the Downtown Disney that has all of the non-Disney hotels on the property. You know, the Hilton, Royal Plaza, Courtyard etc. Follow that road to the Crossroads intersection. At that intersection you could go straight to the center and the Goodings store, that is if you want to pay an arm and a leg for regular groceries. No, get in your left lane by the time you reach that intersection and make a left at that light. Follow that road for no more than a mile or so. On your right will be a Winn Dixie market. They will have everything you need and the prices will be more like what you expect at home. My little first night meal consists of 8 or 12 pc fried chicken from the deli area, one of those bags of salad, a tomato and whatever else you want in your salad that isn't in the bag, something from the frozen food aisle, usually a nice size mac and cheese and some other goodies. The leftover chicken is great the next day for lunch or snack. My wife and daughter love it.

Enjoy!

Winn-Dixie is good. I also go to the Wal-Mart on the way from the airport. It is on Sand lake and Orange Blossom Trail(Ithink).

It is not very convenient, but has alot and great prices.

The Publix on West 192 is likely the easiest IMO. The one by the Outlets on I drive likely about the same distanace and aggravation to get to. I'd put Winn Dixie a third choice from BW. From VWL or OKW, I'd say the Publix on I drive may be best with Winn Dixie Second.

Hi.

There's also a Mini-Mart at the gas station which is across the street. You can just walk across if you need water or just a few supplies.

DH & I stopped by Winn-Dixie & Public in early Oct. while we were "home" for our anniversary as we wanted to figure out what to do when we were down with the family for Thanksgiving.
Publix and Winn- Dixie are about the same distance & you do not need a card at Publix. The prices we found were comparable. We went to the Publix on Vineland Ave. off of International drive by the outlets. We are ordering a 16/18 pound turkey with all sides for $59.99.

We went to the Publix on Vineland Ave. by the outlets last week....pretty much your average Publix, and as someone else said, you don't need a card to get the discounts. They do sell some items that are tourist oriented....like umbrella strollers and some Disney toys and things. I shop at Publix at home, so I find it easy to find what I need in other Publix stores.

We have tried the Winn Dixie....and I've discovered that I just don't like Winn Dixie supermarkets in general...its the closest store to my home here as well and I won't go there because they never have what I need. Also, the one near WDW ups the prices on certain items that they know tourists buy....like soda. I think Goodings was about the same on those things.

Goodings really is a very nice store....yes, its a bit more expensive, but I don't feel its as bad as a 7-11 or Wawa. They have an excellent bakery department, deli, and you can even get reasonably good sushi there. Just don't go there to buy diapers! We paid some outrageous amount for a bag of pull ups a year or two ago (but then again...we usually use cloth, so maybe I'm just not up on what diapers cost!) I stopped in there this past trip while waiting for a pizza from Paesano's (very good, btw) and picked up a very good fruit tart and some Snapple iced tea. The prices were a little high but not too outrageous.

And if you go up Apopka-Vineland Rd. past the Winn-Dixie you come out to Sand Lake Rd. (you can also get there via I-4) where there are several supermarkets (Albertsons and Publix I'm sure of...I don't know what others) and a Walgreens....as well as a natural foods store called Chamberlins. They carry a variety of organic and natural items as well as having a small cafe...and they have homeopathic and herbal remedies. We've headed out there more than once in the past...and also discovered there's an Einstein Bros. Bagel shop there too. (Yum!)

The Vineland Rd. Publix is not quite as close as the Winn Dixie, but its not very far at all. You turn right off of Hotel Plaza Blvd then left at Vineland, just past Bahama Breeze and LoneStar. The store is directly up this road past the Premium Outlets and there is really very little traffic.

Good luck! I think we've decided that in the future we'll just bring all our groceries because we hate taking time out from our vacation to shop!

PS. for DebbieB....the Winn Dixie up the road from Goodings is also the closest to BCV.

Thanks JimC for that link to the All-Ears website. some good info there.

When we fly in we go to the Super Wal-Mart near the airport. There is a Wendy's there where we get lunch and I pick up sugar packets. There is also a Pizza Place and a Diner type of place, that I have never tried. The prices are very good.
Have also gone to Winn-dixix on Apopka -Vineland when staying at OKW and Publix, I am not sure where, but also good.

Never go to Goodings. did that once. the prices are definately elevated due to location. Winn-Dixie is not far down the road and worth the trip.

On my last trip, I found the Winn-Dixie on Apopka-Vineland very easy to get to from BCV. With the discount card, Coke 6-packs were buy-one-get-one-free. You can request a discount card via their web site, http://www.winndixie.com.

Publix
Xentury City Center (Store #00570)
2925 International Dr
Kissimmee, FL 34746-4407

Xentury City Publix

It's at the intersection of International Drive South and HWY 192 and it only 6.5 miles from BWV.

I like this Publix. It's really close and you can sneak in and out of the grocery store the "back" way. It's about the same distance as the Publix on Vineland, but I think it's easier to get to because there are fewer stoplights. It also has a small touristy area where you can pick up towels, floaties, water bottles, t-shirts, etc.

Directions from Boardwalk Villas:

(1) Exit BWV and take a RIGHT toward the gas station.
(2) Turn RIGHT onto Lake Buena Vista Dr (at the gas station). You will be going WEST.
(3) Turn RIGHT onto World Drive toward HWY 192. The entrance is on the other side of World Drive and is a clover-leaf. You will be going SOUTH.
(4) Get off on the NEXT exit (Osceola Pky) toward 417. You will be going EAST.
(5) Go over I-4 and take a RIGHT onto International Dr South. The Gaylord Palms is at this intersection. You will be going SOUTH.
(6) Go under 417 and the back entrance to the Publix will be on your LEFT.

There is also a Walgreens at that intersection in case you need one. I always stop at the Walgreens for one reason or another ;).

Robin B-

Thanks so much for those directions. They are exactly what I need./

Thanks too, everyone else who answered. I am familiar with Crossroads as we spent one night at the Residence Inn, LBV 2 years ago, and it is back in that area.
